The open position reports to the Crude Oil Assay and Refinery Support team within Global Lab Services
(GLS). GLS is responsible for crude oil and petroleum product characterization and process problem solving using analytical chemistry.
Job Responsibilities:
-The open position requires working primarily in material characterization of the Crude Oil Assay and
Refinery Support team. The successful candidate will prepare samples and perform standard and non standard analytical measurements using the following analyses: particle count & size analysis,
microscopy related jobs (light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe), X-ray
Diffraction (XRD), surface tension analysis along with various sample preparation techniques. Additional
job responsibilities include maintaining chemical inventory in the lab, reporting, and communicating
analytical results with lab customers.

In this role, you will be responsible for investigating returned medical devices (blood glucose meters, strips, and sensors), documenting findings, and supporting product quality improvements. Key Responsibilities

The CTSI Biospecimen Processing Lab (BSPL) operates as a centralized biorepository and supports research at UCSF by collecting, processing, storing, and distributing human biospecimenssuch as blood, tissue, and urinefrom patients who have consented to participate in clinical trials. These samples are often collected during cancer treatments, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
The SRA 2 works independently with minimal supervision to process, catalog, and store blood and tissue biospecimens. Additional duties include performing blood fractionation, PBMC isolation, cell counting, and DNA & RNA extractions. The SRA 2 is responsible for accurately entering all collection, processing, and distribution details into the lab database (MBioLIMS). The incumbent also supports improvements to the lab's inventory system and use MBioLIMS software to track and manage specimens. They are responsible for reviewing patient diagnostic reports and translating clinical findings into standardized terms compatible with the lab database. Upon request, the SRA 2 is responsible for retrieving and shipping samples from onsite freezers and the BSPL Freezer Farm, in compliance with all biosafety and transportation protocols. This position requires independence, accuracy, sound decision-making, and a solid understanding of specimen processing and data management. The SRA 2 serves as a key link between clinical teams and research staff, requiring a strong understanding of clinical workflows and biospecimen handling.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary
The CTSI Biospecimen Processing Lab (BSPL) operates as a centralized biorepository and supports research at UCSF by collecting, processing, storing, and distributing human biospecimens-such as blood, tissue, and urine-from patients who have consented to participate in clinical trials. These samples are often collected during cancer treatments, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
The SRA 2 works independently with minimal supervision to process, catalog, and store blood and tissue biospecimens. Additional duties include performing blood fractionation, PBMC isolation, cell counting, and DNA & RNA extractions. The SRA 2 is responsible for accurately entering all collection, processing, and distribution details into the lab database (MBioLIMS). The incumbent also supports improvements to the lab's inventory system and use MBioLIMS software to track and manage specimens. They are responsible for reviewing patient diagnostic reports and translating clinical findings into standardized terms compatible with the lab database. Upon request, the SRA 2 is responsible for retrieving and shipping samples from onsite freezers and the BSPL Freezer Farm, in compliance with all biosafety and transportation protocols.
This position requires independence, accuracy, sound decision-making, and a solid understanding of specimen processing and data management. The SRA 2 serves as a key link between clinical teams and research staff, requiring a strong understanding of clinical workflows and biospecimen handling.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Able to accurately perform data entry through electronic databases
- Excellent communication skills
- General molecular biology laboratory work experiences
- Ability to use Microsoft word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly surgical and pathology terms
- Skilled in use of microtome or cryostat
- Experience in handling human biospecimens for clinical diagnostics

Licensure Requirement: Must possess an active MLT or LVN license.
Job summary
Under supervision of Laboratory Manager, performs waived laboratory tests in a remote or mobile setting. Also responsible for monitoring quality of reagents and working condition of instruments.
Essential Functions:
• Receives specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.
• May operate a delivery van to bring the mobile lab to an area of high volume of STAT testing when applicable.
• Enters patient demographics and test orders into lab information system.
• Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results. Ensures QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to a supervisor/manager in real time.
• Performs lab testing in the areas of point of care which may include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular and Coagulation.
• Data entry of test results.
• Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any “rare and improbable” test results to the attention of a supervisor/manager.
• Performs blood collection to include venipuncture and capillary specimens.
• Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
• Close monitoring of STAT board to ensure STAT TAT goal is obtained consistently.
• Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
• Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
• Performs maintenance on the automated instrumentation as needed.
• Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed.
• Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities.
• Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing.
• Follows all safety protocols as outlined in safety manual.

o Any certification/licensure needed per state requirements. Must possess an active MLT or LVN license.
o State of California only – qualify as testing personnel for waived testing, a minimum of licensed medical laboratory technician or licensed vocation nurse.
