The Supervisor of Laboratory Testing Operations (Evening Shift) at Loyola University Medical Center directs the daily operations of a given laboratory shift to ensure the precision and reproducibility of laboratory test results in accordance with accreditation standards and guidelines. This position reports to the Manager, Core Laboratory.
Position responsibilities:
+ Directs the daily operations of the shift to effectively utilize resources including staff, equipment, space and supplies and meet the needs of internal and external customers of the given laboratory section. A.) Prepares work schedules and monitors staff productivity to effectively utilize personnel and adhere to established turnaround times. B.) Reviews daily work to identify potential technical and/or clerical errors and facilitate the timely correction of results when necessary. Maintains worklogs and daily QC / maintenance. C.) Troubleshoots procedures and instrumentation to minimize instrument downtime. D.) Assesses clinical and operational environment and utilizes the appropriate leadership style to ensure an efficient and productive department. E.) Acts as a key contact person for nursing and hospital personnel. F.) Serves as a resource for employee decision-making. G.) Performs bench work as needed.
+ Manages staff resources in order to meet the needs of laboratory stakeholders. A.) Hires qualified employees to fill open positions. B.) Ensures that employees are properly trained and that the training is accurately documented. Ensures employee competencies are documented and completed by designated deadlines. C.) Applies Loyola Medicine human resource policies consistently and fairly. D.) Evaluates and documents employee performance according to Loyola Medicine policies. Provides regular feedback on employee performance. E.) Identifies and documents human resources issues. F.) In collaboration with the manager, prepares, implements and monitors individual work improvement plans in order to improve employee performance. G.) Develops individuals for laboratory leadership positions. H.) Effectively communicates to colleagues.
+ Monitors quality performance standards and provides detailed statistics including but not limited to specimen adequacy, turnaround time, patient identification issues. Demonstrates quality customer service through positive interaction, which meets the needs of co-workers, faculty, patients, visitors and vendors A.) Performs other duties as assigned by the manager/director to support the department mission of service to patients and providing quality diagnostic information. B.) Participates in intra- and interdepartmental improvement activities to achieve laboratory and hospital goals. C.) Maintains the shift QC & QA oversight and all aspects of the testing lab's pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
+ Ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations and accreditation standards. A.) Maintains an awareness of current regulations and standards that effect operations on the shift. B.) Identifies areas of risk and implements activities to reduce the risk to the health system. C.) Ensures that variances are documented, investigated, and resolved. D.) Collaborates with the manager, director, and colleagues to develop, implement, and sustain quality improvements. E.) Ensures inventory is managed to needs of the laboratory section. F.) Ensures procedures are up-to-date and reflective of current processes.
What's Required:
+ Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical lab science or medical technology.
+ Greater than 2 years of laboratory training or experience in the designated specialty or subspecialty of responsibility
+ 3-5 years of previous job-related experience in the designated specialty preferred.
+ Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or laboratory discipline specific or specialty certificate (ASCP or AMT or other approved certifying agency) preferred.
+ Must meet CLIA88 qualifications for technical consultant (moderate complexity) and general supervisor (high complexity) for the designated testing specialty.

This team works cross-functionally with partners in Research & Development, as well as Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The main function of the team is to assess and disposition raw materials and components in a timely manner to support *** Manufacturing and Supply Chain Planning.
What's special about this role:
This role is responsible for supporting raw material processing in the lab's lean cells. The role is responsible for managing supplier COA issues (trade name discrepancies, missing test results, incorrect limits), partnering with suppliers to improve accuracy of documentation, and collaborating with internal *** groups to improve specifications and testing limits/parameters. The role requires attention to detail, organization, and follow-through to ensure suppliers and cross functional partners support timely raw material release. This role works collaboratively with other QC team members and has potential to grow in responsibility with Fusion volume transfer upcoming.
Required qualifications:
• Associates or BS degree in chemistry, biology, Life sciences or related field pref
• Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs/test methods and reporting data
• Experience conducting experiments as needed and as directed by scientists
Skills to be successful in the role:
• GMP chemistry laboratory experience preferred
• Experience with QA Lab Systems preferred (STARLIMS, ETQ Document Control and Deviation Module and JDE Release functions)
• Attention to detail to follow test procedures, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements
• Document work, keeping accurate records and data analysis
• Excellent oral and written communication skill
• Ability to prioritize and complete work efficiently while meeting high quality standards
• Flexible team player, self-motivated, ability to be adaptable and to work independently and as part of a team.

The Laboratory Technician Trainee will assist other personal in the company by assisting with gross, determining appropriate processing of various types of specimens, verbal and electronic communication with customers, and perform any other non-technical duties when asked by the technical staff and or supervisor.
Maintains supplies and performs routine housekeeping duties.
Follows all departmental procedures and practices related to laboratory safety, data documentation, and good laboratory hygiene practices.
Complete task as assigned.
Complete training for laboratory analyst requirements.
Perform various duties as instructed by manager/director or other departments.
Must be able to lift 45 lbs.
Must be able to distinguish colors and be comfortable with microscopic analysis during entire shift.
Requirements:
Degree in Science or equivalent work experience in a laboratory setting.
Must be able to work with all chemical, building material, and sample specimens.
Must be able to differentiate colors accurately by sight.
Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Must have flexible schedule as position will include evenings, weekend and holidays, based on customer need.
Skills
Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both internally and externally.
Ability to gather and review resources and select and synthesize data for reports and other written materials.
High level of accuracy is required, with special attention to details.
