Position Overview

Seeking a Quality Control Technician to perform laboratory-based testing and documentation for in-process and finished product evaluations. Essential Responsibilities / Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Executes program guidelines and policies with the purpose of ensuring compliance with all government regulations and accreditation requirements, as well as maintaining alignment with the organization's mission.
  • Exhibits working knowledge of regulatory requirements of CLIA, The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP), Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MADPH), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Supports laboratory leadership by organizing the workflow processes, and assists with creating, implementing, and maintaining all related controlled documentation involved in the referral testing process.
  • Works with laboratory leadership to evaluate program outcomes and to ensure appropriate continuum of services.
  • Assists and monitors the referral test result processes including interfaced and non-interfaced result entry into LIS/IT/On Base. Works with medical records department to optimize processes.
  • Creates and monitors various quality and performance metrics related to send out testing to maintain desired levels of service and ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the staff and processes.
  • Monitors test request volumes to ensure the test menu offered in the EMR/LIS matches clinical needs per hospital policy (LOGIC). Works with IT as needed to make improvements and address concerns.
  • Assists with monitoring new test requests and workflows to manage test utilization program
  • Assists the QA and Compliance Manager/Supervisor with conducting Root Cause analysis investigations and reports when related to reference laboratory testing
  • Sample handling including receiving, sorting, preparing and packaging lab specimens for external testing where required
  • Report management including shift QA, pending logs, courier logs, pneumatic tube software

Management:

  • Occasional oversight of program support staff (which may include interns, volunteers and/or regular staff). Provides necessary ongoing training and technical support to ensure projects are being completed in a safe, professional and productive manner.
  • Manages centralized files and coordinates retention of records, including liaising with the office of medical records.
  • Oversight of data entry, documentation, quality control, report management and sample handling by program support staff
  • Ensuring staff adherence to all standards, policies and procedures of the laboratory

Administrative:

  • Maintains a data management system ensuring timely and accurate data collection. Compiles quantitative and qualitative data daily, weekly, monthly and uses data to determine status of program activities.
  • Writes the quarterly progress reports and annual progress reports for submission to laboratory leadership, including quality metrics and budgetary alignment goals.
  • Serves as the department administrative expert with regards to compliance policies & departmental procedures as they relate to reference laboratory testing.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of reference laboratory supplies and equipment. Purchases products as needed within established budget and accounting units.
  • Schedules meetings with appropriate stakeholders, coordinates audio-visual and technology requirements, as needed.
  • Assists in facilitating group sessions around program guidelines and educational support, including leading in group discussions

Other Duties:

  • Performs office related duties such as picking up mail, handling faxes, scanning, filing, photocopying collating materials, maintaining the update of policy manuals, etc.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, to ensure that exceptional customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital's mission and goals.
  • Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited university or college is required.
  • Degree in Clinical Lab Science which includes successful completion of supervised course of clinical internship in an approved hospital laboratory is preferred, or an Associate's Degree in applied science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry) or equivalent with minimum science course completion.

Experience:

As the Laboratory Technician, you will prepare samples and analysis following official methods and company/laboratory SOPs.

  • This position performs performance, chemical and physical testing of disposable paper and hygiene consumer products learning multiple industry methods
    Experience in science, engineering, pulp and paper or related scientific field is preferred.

As the Laboratory Technician, you will prepare samples and analysis following official methods and company/laboratory SOPs.

  • This position performs performance, chemical and physical testing of disposable paper and hygiene consumer products learning multiple industry methods
    Experience in science, engineering, pulp and paper or related scientific field is preferred.

  • Works under immediate supervision to perform the following job functions, generally:

  • Performs routine laboratory testing, following the relevant company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and methods. Validate performance on methods as required.

  • Test to applicable standards (ASTM, CSPA, ISO, SSC, etc.) and customer-specific protocols.

  • Ensure compliance with all required local and federal safety processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrates good and safe work habits and enforces a clean working environment.

  • Perform general upkeep and housekeeping of the laboratory

  • Accurately complete and maintain all laboratory reports.

  • May also have prep or field responsibilities, as required by business needs.

  • May be required to receive, sort, log client samples into the database, and prepare sample labels.

  • May be required to archive, return, or dispose of client samples as per the established procedure.

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks on equipment.

  • Assist in keeping inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment necessary for the day to day functioning of the laboratory and in compiling list of supplies to be ordered when needed.

  • Assists in calibration/verification tasks and other ISO 17025 related activities.

  • Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn at all times.

  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

Required:

  • Associates Degree in Natural Sciences or related scientific disciplines preferred
  • Working in a lab setting with experience following strict safety standards, or equivalent education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in related scientific disciplines

  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word) - Basic user proficiency required

  • Ability to work independently under the direct supervision

  • Ability to execute detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

  • Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to follow directions to ensure the end results are accurate and completed with the required timeframe

**Schedule: Initial shift Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, transitioning to Sunday-Thursday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM**

In this lab-based role, you'll be an essential part of the quality control and R&D process for high-performance metal powders used in cutting-edge industrial applications. If you're curious, detail-driven, and ready to put your science skills to work, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience with sophisticated instrumentation in a supportive and evolving environment.
**What You'll Do:**
As a Laboratory Technician, you'll conduct a variety of precise tests to ensure our materials meet critical quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
+ Analyze raw materials, in-process materials, and final product powders using advanced lab equipment
+ Perform trace elemental chemical analysis (initial focus: inorganic analysis using LECO instruments)
+ Support R&D initiatives with accurate and timely testing data
+ Execute testing under strict SOPs and maintain meticulous lab records
+ Work with a wide array of instrumentation, including:
+ Spectrometers (AA, XRF, DCP)
+ Analytical balances & microscope imaging systems
+ Sedigraph & Malvern particle size analyzers
+ Carbon, Sulfur, Oxygen, and Nitrogen analyzers
+ Microwave digestion systems
+ Physical testing and software-integrated lab systems
**What You Bring:**

Pay Transparency Verbiage :
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $35,500 to $47,300 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
