WHAT'S THE JOB?

We are looking for a hardworking Fire Basecamp Labourer to assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment at fire base camps. This role is essential in supporting firefighters, emergency personnel, and camp staff by ensuring facilities remain sanitary and operational. The ideal candidate will be responsible for general cleaning duties, waste disposal, minor maintenance tasks, and assisting with camp logistics to promote efficiency in a high-paced environment.

This position requires adaptability, physical endurance, and the ability to work in demanding conditions where fire activity may impact scheduling.

You must be comfortable working in a remote bush camp setting. Bush camps are often hours away from any town, with limited to no cell reception and Wi-Fi. Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors as accommodations can range from a lodge to a tent depending on the site.

Key responsibilities include:

* Removing garbage and disposing at designated garbage site daily.
* Collection, distribution, and management of laundry in fire camp.
* Sweep, mop, and wipe down surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
* Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely.
* Assist in organizing materials and tools on-site.
* Planned utility checks on assets in fire camp (light bulbs, doors, taps, etc.).
* Troubleshoot utility issues as they arise (plugged toilets, leaky faucets, broken or damaged cosmetic equipment, etc.).
* Supporting in unloading deliveries of materials and supplies.
* Completing activities related to manual labour, including bending, stooping, reaching, carrying and lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50lbs.
* Assembling and tear down of equipment.
* Assisting janitorial and housekeeping staff.
* Driving as required.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

* Six months or more working as a labour or maintenance helper in a construction or commercial setting
* Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
* Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision
* Physical stamina to perform manual labour tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time
* Basic hand tool operation
* Attention to detail
* Ability to follow instructions and perform work safely
* Ability to perform duties in warm, wet, humid or dry climates on a variety of surfaces including, concrete and gravel.
* Ability to handle the following physical demands:
* Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs
* Climb ladders or stairs
* Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of time
* Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
* Perform work with arms at full length
* Work with arms above shoulder height

Work schedule and remuneration:

You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis and include a starting rate of $18.73-$19.75.

Construction Site Superintendent

StaffBuffalo is hiring a full-time Construction Site Superintendent for a well-established construction company based in the Buffalo, NY area. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on leader with a background in construction management or heavy civil construction who’s ready to take charge of daily field operations. With a salary range of $70,000 to $100,000 per year, depending on experience, this role offers competitive compensation, strong benefits, and a chance to grow with a respected industry leader.

In this role, you’ll oversee job site activity, coordinate crews and subcontractors, and ensure that projects stay on schedule, on budget, and in line with safety and quality expectations. Candidates should have at least a 2-year degree in Construction Management and/or equivalent hands-on experience in field supervision within heavy civil construction environments.

  • Update construction schedule monthly and three-week schedule weekly and ensure that schedule is implemented, closely monitored, updated as necessary, and meets the contract completion date.
  • Act as liaison between subcontractors and Project Manager & Engineers to ensure work complies with project requirements. Establish quality control procedures to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Responsible for success of all project field operations.
  • Manage and coordinate external resources and subcontractors.
  • Assist project manager with contract administration and interaction with the owner.
  • Ensure safety compliance of subcontractors and all on-site personnel.
  • Ensure client concerns are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Identify potential issues and solve problems.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the commercial construction management and commissioning process.
  • 5+ years' experience on extensive commercial remodel projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the general scope of the construction industry including the ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, building codes, and other project documents.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation control systems in commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Capable of leading confidently in identifying, correcting and/or avoiding potential schedule, budget or quality issues. The ability to make decisions, while balancing cost implications, to avoid disruptions in the work or customer's operations.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project's goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project scheduling software.
  • OSHA 30 certification (or must be obtained within 6 months of assuming position).

A Site Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a specific site or location.

Roles and Responsibilities
Acts as the main point of contact for all vendors and contractors working on-site, and coordinates
their schedules, deliveries, and work activities to ensure alignment with project timelines and
specifications.
Collaborates with vendors and contractors to schedule equipment, materials, and manpower
required for construction activities.
Ensures that resources are allocated efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
Conducts regular inspections and quality checks on work performed by vendors and contractors
to verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
Enforces safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all on-site
personnel, including vendors and contractors.
Conducts safety briefings, inspections, and incident reporting as necessary.

Provides regular updates to project managers and stakeholders on the status of work and any

Monitors expenditures related to vendor and contractor services, including material costs, labor
charges, and additional expenses.
Works closely with the project team to adhere to budgetary constraints and identify cost-saving
opportunities where possible.
Maintains accurate records of vendor contracts, work orders, invoices, and project
documentation.
Generates regular reports detailing vendor performance, work progress, and budget utilization for
review by project stakeholders.
