Birch Agency is looking for passionate and experienced teachers to join our second language classroom in Allentown, PA. We are looking forexperienced, bilingual teachers who are passionate about teaching and learning a second language.

Responsibilities:

• Teach K-12 language to students who are struggling with English reading, writing, and speaking.

• Provide daily instruction to students in a classroom environment.

• Work closely with classroom teachers to ensure that students are learning from a variety of sources in a variety of ways.

• Provide high-quality instruction based on the instructional plan developed by the classroom teachers.

• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective curriculum

• Provide tutoring and support to students as needed

• Assist in the development of educational materials and resources

• Conduct assessments to evaluate students' language proficiency

• Offer guidance and coaching to other teachers as needed

Qualifications:

• Bilingualism in English and Spanish preferred

What You’ll Do

NPFE seeks a certified and highly qualified English-as-a-Second Language teacher to work with English Language Learner (ELL) students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar and vocabulary acquisition. The ESL teacher will use appropriate strategies to help learners at each level of language acquisition and development. The ESL teacher will work within the classroom in an inclusion model for students who need assistance in understanding English, and will also provide specific ESL small group instruction courses, consistently collaborating with general education teachers and other school staff.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education

• Must have - or be on a path to - a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an ESL endorsement

• Prior classroom experience working with English Language Learners

Duties & Responsibilities

• Uses various teaching methods to promote language acquisition, including intensive individualized instruction and small group learning

• Administers assessments and screeners to determine specific student needs and services - and support teachers in understanding and utilizing these data points

• Ensures students receive appropriate accommodations and set personalized learning goals

• Monitors student progress and develop plans to transition students out of ESL programming as appropriate

• Keeps up-to-date and accurate records of student progress and required documentation

• Helps general educators adapt curriculum materials and teaching techniques to meet the needs of English Language Learners

• Develops systems to monitor student progress on an individual, classroom, and school level

Position Overview

Prep Public Schools English Language Learner (ELL) teachers are responsible for accelerating English language development and supporting multilingual learners in achieving academic growth and grade-level content mastery. ELL teachers equip students with the language skills, strategies, and confidence needed to access rigorous curriculum across all subjects, including pathways to AP and high school-level coursework. Through high-quality, differentiated instruction and targeted language supports, ELL teachers play a critical role in ensuring students are prepared to thrive academically and pursue their post-secondary pathway of choice.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement state English language development learning standards, Prep curricula, and assessments to support multilingual learners in meeting ambitious academic and language acquisition goals
• Learn, master, and deliver English language development instructional strategies, content-based language instruction, and grade level curriculum, core content objectives, and texts to ensure English learners access and succeed in all content areas
• Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback, incorporating language objectives and scaffolds for varying proficiency levels
• Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual students progress and learning needs and English language development, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly
• Communicate students progress, including language growth, with student and family on a weekly basis
• Integrate technology tools to enhance language instruction, build vocabulary, and support multilingual students' learning and communication
• Establish a structured and consistent behavior management system aligned with campus-wide initiatives, fostering student character and classroom community
• Contribute to a positive and engaging school culture that supports student learning, enthusiasm, and a culture of brotherhood
• Build and maintain trusting relationships with English learners and their families through consistent communication and appreciation of their linguistic and cultural backgrounds
• Provide targeted small group or one-on-one language development tutoring and academic support based on student language proficiency levels
• Actively participate in weekly manager check-ins, ELL team and grade-level meetings, school duties, and campus-wide events
• Engage in ongoing professional development through summer and year-round learning opportunities at the network, school, and personal levels
• Commit to a minimum of 37.5+ hours spend at school per week
• Take on additional responsibilities, such as after-school tutoring or Saturday school, as needed to support student success and accelerate English learner success

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year educational institution required

Performance Goals

You will be responsible for achieving the following ambitious targets:

• Academic Excellence: 100% of students reach their growth goals on the World Class Instructional Design Assessment (WIDA) exam in February.
• High Quality Instruction: Achieve an Effective or higher rating on Project COACH rubric in the summative evaluation.
• Forging Relationships: Achieve an 80% or higher on the parent survey and student survey at the end of year in May.
