About the Role
The Business Development Specialist is an integral part of Lathams Business Development (BD) team and will be responsible for support ing their assigned market and work ing closely with the office Business Development team , while b uilding strong relationships with the local BD Manager and collaborating to support the partners, counsel, and associates in the assigned office to establish a role as a markets trusted resource. This role will be located in either our Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, or Century City office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Other key responsibilities include:
- Working with the local BD Manager to assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of Business Development and Marketing initiatives, and business plans
- Planning and assisting with office event initiatives, cross-selling, and client-targeting initiatives as it relates to local markets
- Working with various teams such as BD Core, New Business Team, Creative, Events & Sponsorships, Martech, Library & Research, Alumni, Brand & Communications, and the Financial Information Center in the delivery of information on client intelligence, research, pitch information, events, and lawyer materials
- Assisting in monitoring office initiatives with key account clients in the market
- Acting as the go-to resource for office BD needs and support
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains
- Demonstrate well-developed, professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
- Display excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Possess the ability to work in a team environment with a customer-service focus
- A Bachelors degree or an equivalent
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in marketing, business development, office administration, or other related functions

Amy F. Loperfido & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a Legal Secretary to join the Philadelphia Claim Litigation office. While every day can provide different experiences and opportunities, a typical day as a Legal Secretary involves supporting attorneys with calendaring and scheduling, processing mail, and electronic/paper filing. The office allows for collaborative environments with access to peer mentors. This role provides diversity of work and the opportunity for development/advancement. This role will interact with clients, courts, and counsel throughout the litigation process on behalf of the attorney. The position is classified as a hybrid role, meaning that the work arrangement calls for hours in the office and virtually. Everyone in a hybrid role is required to spend time in the office. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs. Hours for the position are Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.
LOCATION: 1500 Market Street, Suite 2400 Centre Square West, Philadelphia, PA 19102
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Apply specialized knowledge of legal procedures
- Calendar management, processing mail, electronic/paper filing in all five surrounding counties
- Schedule litigation events, including depositions, mediations and hearings
Qualifications
Previous experience required
- 2+ years of recent civil defense litigation secretarial experience preferably in insurance defense or personal injury
- Prior experience in electronic and paper filing preferrable in the five surrounding counties (Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks)
Key Skills required
- Calendaring and scheduling experience within a legal environment
- Strong organizational skills, prioritizing urgent and non-urgent tasks (items with deadlines, handling demands), multitasking
- E-filing experience
- Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, local and state rules regarding pleadings and pre-trial matters, deadlines, and filing requirement (strongly preferred)
- Ability to adapt to a corporate law environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills (proofreading, attention to detail, formatting)
- Accurate typing skills
Technology/software experience required
- Working knowledge of PA electronic filing system
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of Case Management system
- Working knowledge of Document Storage system

- Ensure timely and accurate communication between legal teams and external parties.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and tasks. Requirements - Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Legal Secretary or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in e-filing and court filing procedures.
- Strong organizational skills, including calendar management and scheduling.
- Familiarity with civil litigation and business litigation processes.
- Experience with real estate or probate matters is preferred.
- Ability to handle dictation and prepare legal documents with precision.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
