**Job Description Summary**
We are seeking a highly motivated Lean Manufacturing Process Improvement Specialist to bolster our continuous improvement initiatives at the Cores and Casting Schenectady Manufacturing facility. We're seeking a proactive, solution-oriented, and outcome-focused professional to lead the charge in implementing our lean strategies and align them with our business objectives. Your primary focus will be streamlining product and process flows, improving Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost, all while fostering direct collaboration with our operations teams.
**Job Description**
**Roles and Responsibilities**
+ Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.
+ Analyze and resolve issues, identify root causes, and implement process flow improvements.
+ Effectively communicate and coordinate with production and salary employees to achieve goals.
+ Lead cross-functional teams for Kaizen and Lean Action Work-out events.
+ Support the execution of the lean roadmap strategy and oversee implementation.
+ Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including set-up reduction, workplace organization, standardized work, process flow improvements, visual management, and inventory reduction.
+ Manage multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of manufacturing experience).
+ Minimum of 1 to 2 additional years in a production manufacturing role responsible for driving process improvements

**REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:**
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering.
+ 1-3 years of industrial/quality/continuous improvement/manufacturing engineering experience in a mass volume production environment along with knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing principles.

Essential Functions of Job:

--Lead all CI/Lean Efforts in these plants

--Lead kaizen events of 1-5 days long. This plant conducts many short kaizen events.

--Implement Standard Work throughout the plant including leader standard work for production managers, supervisors and team leads

--Map out each value stream and identify opportunity areas.

--Implement a very effective Daily Lean Management System. The right candidate must be experienced at developing others and working hands on with them everyday to implement these systems within their areas of control. This includes training front line leaders on how to conduct beginning of shift meetings effectively, asking their employees for any kind of improvements (SQDCM), conducting daily gemba walks in their areas, collecting the right, meaningful data, ensuring hour to hour boards are updated along with appropriate CA's where needed.

--Working with line leaders on identifying waste in their areas and taking needed corrective actions. Train them on the main forms of waste. Help them identify improvement projects.

--Work with managers in the plant to identify CI opportunities. Train managers on a variety of CI tools: VSM, 5S/6S, TPM, Standard Work, One Piece Flow, Mistake Proofing, use of Kanbans, Quick Changeover/SMED, Basic Problem Solving tools, and using A3's.

--Do audits of progress within the plant periodically and provide reports to management staff on progress within the plant.

--Manage key capital improvement projects in plant including Automation projects, equipment and process upgrades, etc.

Desired Experience/Education/Qualities:

--Prefer someone with a 4-year Engineering degree, however, even an Associates degree with the appropriate hands-on work experience will be considered

--Work experience-prefer someone who has progressed in a few different areas in a manufacturing plant. Prefer at least 6-8 years of progressive Operations/Lean/Engineering experience.

--Must have completed over 20 kaizen events and having working implementation experience with most of the tools listed above

--Must be a hands-on contributor. Company does NOT want someone who is going to sit at their desk most of the day. 75% of the candidates day should be on the floor working with managers/supervisors/team leads/engineers/maintenance/office personnel of improvement opportunities that impact the bottom line.

  • Research ideas submitted by our team and create justification for starting new projects.
  • Measure the impact before and after the completion of projects using lean tools.
  • Outline and execute plans to complete both long and short-term improvements.
  • Review previously implemented ideas and analyze impact.
  • Support Supervisors with monthly improvement projects.
  • Build and lead trainings related to lean initiatives.
  • Help implement 5S across the facility.
  • Conduct bottleneck and continuous flow analysis.
  • Determine root cause for efficiency/quality issues and present solutions.
  • Analyze and organize efficiency/quality data.
  • Develop new use cases for our efficiency/quality data collection application.
  • Serve as an organizer and backup leader for our quality programs.
  • Create presentations and lead meetings related to process improvement and quality programs.
  • Resource for tech initiatives and help with various computer and iPad issues.
  • Audit various initiatives on the production floor.
  • Conduct new hires orientation to our programs.
  • Create and update content on our internal communication websites.
  • 1 to 5 years experience preferred

Serves as a subject matter expert in the healthcare quality domain by combining operational and analytical acumen to provide strategic analysis and data modeling to support clinical quality operations and performance improvement. Responsible for providing analysis and decision support in the areas of emerging technology, regulatory compliance, business planning/development, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification

Required: Certification or training in Lean Six Sigma
Preferred: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt/Master Black Belt Certification

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Applied Sciences or related field
Preferred:

Masters degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Sciences or related field.

Experience

Required:

Experience with facilitation of group process

Experience using CQI tools and principles

Preferred: Experience with business intelligence applications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Proficient with Microsoft Office and other tools necessary

Excellent communication skills

Ability to be customer focused

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential

Organizes multi-disciplinary groups that work collaboratively to solve problems, improve processes, and integrate services with other departments. Develops performance improvement strategies; manages and leads process improvement initiatives for Kaweah Health- ensuring initiative alignment with business vision and established PI Plan and strategy. Partners with stakeholders to develop project charters; drive results, revise plans, and provide progress reports as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

Independently performs hospital and departmental workflow assessments/evaluations to identify improvement opportunities and determine data sets for evaluation/verification. Evaluates and provides input on the effectiveness of performance improvement initiatives and daily management activities.

Responsible for researching and understanding current knowledge of health care delivery trends and evidence-based solutions for improving the delivery of care and services

Leads and supports data collection, analysis, and assessments through physical observations and system reporting to develop proposals & recommendations for senior leadership on hospital channel improvements.

Responsible for performing independent complex data analysis (such as data manipulation, analysis, mathematical modeling, problem-solving and advanced statistics) requiring the integration of multiple sources, evaluation of data quality, and standardization of data to consistent structure and able to summarize and present data findings.

Applies strong interpersonal relations and communications skills to provide internal consulting on quality of care, reliability of care, and patient safety. Uses communication and teamwork skills to build and maintain successful working relationships throughout the organization. Listens effectively, builds strong relationships, and openly shares best practices, tools and expertise.

Coaches and mentors team members and process owners to utilize a defined problem-solving process improvement methodology that analyzes and interprets data for decision-making. Develops staff by assisting them in identifying goals and process improvement opportunities and supports leadership and staff with implementing process changes.
