Department: Lift Maintenance

Reporting To: Lift Maintenance Manager

Position Overview:

The Lift Technician at Powder Mountain plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all ski lifts. This position involves performing preventative and operational maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating closely with other departments to uphold safety standards and deliver a positive guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers that utilize Powder Mountains lifts
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all facets of the ski lift system
  • Being familiar with the location of all ski lifts on the mountain
  • Manage maintenance tools and equipment
  • Assist in daily preventative maintenance inspections
  • Update maintenance procedures and maintain records
  • Troubleshoot lift issues as they arrive during the operating seasons
  • Perform pre-operational and operational checks during operating seasons
  • Monitor moving equipment, utilizing all senses to predict potential failure
  • Work closely with all-mountain operations departments
  • Interact with guests in a positive and proper manner
  • Maintain a culture of safety at all times
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors/managers about maintenance issues
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements and/or Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance skills and knowledge
  • Current and Valid Driver License - NO major violations on driving record
  • Must be able to safely operate trucks, forklift, and snowmobiles
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces
  • Familiarity with state and federal environmental standards and OSHA regulations
  • Overall understanding of Powder Mountain's policies and procedures
  • Ability to work at extreme heights
  • Work all scheduled shift to include Holidays and weekends
  • Expert-level ability skiing/snowboarding abilities
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:

Working Environment:

Work is performed inside and outside the snowcat consisting of extreme temperatures, loud sounds and noises that are distracting, sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice), and high altitudes (9,000 ft+). Sometimes must drive in very bright sunlight or when it is dark outside.

Hazardous Materials/Noise: Employee will often be in contact with hazardous substances. The noise level in the work place is usually loud.

Employee will be required to work on uneven and limited footing locations. Working surfaces can be loose or slippery as well.

Hazardous Materials/Noise: Employee will often be in contact with hazardous substances. The noise level in the work place is usually loud.

Equipment Used in Job: Snowmobile, ATV, side by side, trucks, all mechanical tools (hand and power) ropes and rigging.

The range listed is just one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's total compensation package for employees. Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following; but not limited to;
  • Work with all operations departments to make sure lifts are all running efficiently.
  • Be familiar location of all ski lifts and travel routes on the mountain. Know how to operate the lift controls, run lift on auxiliary or evacuation diesels.
  • Perform daily pre-operation and operational inspections of ski lifts for safe operation.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Climb lift towers to inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair or replace components at extreme heights in all weather conditions.
  • Repair, remove and/or replace mechanical parts of lifts as necessary, both on site and in repair shop.
  • Must have the ability to trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair or replace ski lift components.
  • Maintain service records and documentation.

  • Experience in tower line work, brake systems, tension systems, motor rooms, station work, carrier maintenance, low voltage, auxiliary motors, and pre-fab.
  • Knowledge of how fixed grip, detachable grip and conveyor lifts function, need to be familiar with all lift components and basic lift adjustments.
  • Knowledge of fabrication (welding and torching)
  • Knowledge of fall protection and climbing safety.
  • Valid driver's license

Description

(FT Year Round Benefited Position) The Lift Maintenance Technician will participate/conduct inspections, testing, monitoring, preventative and reactive maintenance of ski lift machinery and equipment to ensure safe lift operation at all times. Applicants should have >1 year(s) of experience in aerial tramway maintenance, experience in other relevant trades may be considered.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain an acute safety conscious mindset as well as general situational awareness
  • Conduct preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturers recommendations, AHJ requirements and company policy
  • Preform pre-operation inspections, lift start-up and shutdown procedures
  • Monitor adverse weather conditions and make appropriate operational decisions
  • Able to safely work at heights >100' in adverse conditions
  • Proficient with identifying ski lift components and terminology
  • Identify faults on ski lifts and identify simple resolutions
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical circuits using a multimeter
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of all work spaces (terminals, work sites, lift shacks, shop areas etc.)
  • Maintain exterior of ski lift related facilities (painting, carpentry, etc.)
  • Proficient with Aerial Tramway operation while ensuring compliance with ANSI B77.1-2022
Other Expectations:
  • Keep a neat appearance and maintain good personal hygiene
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Must be able to work long hours, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to learn from others

Experience Requirements:
  • >1 Year of aerial tramway maintenance experience
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Trade school or equivalent certification (recommended, not required)
  • Experience with the safe and effective use of hand and power tools
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record
Skills Required:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both guests and coworkers
  • Team player
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Snowmobile/OHV operation
  • Intermediate level or above skier or snowboarder
  • Receptive to criticism from peers
  • Ability to apply good judgment in all situations
  • Ability to follow and comprehend instructions, oral and formal
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift or move heavy objects using appropriate techniques (50+ lbs.)
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time in varying/extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to perform demanding physical labor for extended periods
  • Must be able to work at altitude (9300 - 11,500 feet above sea level)
  • Ability to hike to remote locations to access machinery

Travel Required:

Minimal. 1 - 5 annual out of state trips possible to attend industry conference(s) or company gatherings or assist other areas within the collective with Lift maintenance projects/training.
