Responsibilities :

  • Managing the system platforms, including build and upgrade, query review and tuning, and production support, and related infrastructure and administration services for mission-critical systems in a fast-paced environment for brokerage, banking, and related financial and other business/enterprise applications.
  • Report to the VP manager of Systems Engineering / Hybrid Cloud Engineering Infrastructure Group and will require strong team interaction with Systems, application and development staff/peers, other engineering, and operations group members within the IT organization, as well as with application and business development teams.
  • Plans upgrades of hardware and applications / systems enhancements / OS patches / HW patches, firmware.
  • Develops and conducts tests to ensure solutions meet documented user requirements.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.
  • Performing hardware maintenance and repair activities using DRAC/ILOM.
  • Respond, investigate, and resolve technical incidents requiring advanced problem-solving analysis and use of advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues.
  • Work with Facilities to troubleshoot server related network and SAN issues.
  • Initiate server problems with Vendors and coordinate with Facilities for onsite repair.
Required Skills :
  • 5 Years Linux experience
  • 5 Hardware Server experience
  • 5 Red Hat / CentOS experience
  • Strong Linux skill set across provisioning, supporting, securing, and troubleshooting Linux. Strong Server hardware trouble shooting skills (Dell Servers preferred).
  • Practical understanding of networking such as network bonding, routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IP, & VLANs
  • Understanding of basic disk configuration work for Linux servers (file system creation, expansion, migration, and troubleshooting).
  • Working knowledge of VMware virtualization using vCenter.
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) support experience.
Preferred Skills :

JOB SUMMARY:

The Linux Systems Engineer will have expert level experience in configuration and operational support of RHEL servers in an AWS EC2 environment and will help contribute to an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions that includes a background in all aspects of the systems engineering in a cloud environment. You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security. Responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems; especially multi-user computer systems in a cloud environment.

This position will be filled and worked onsite in Washington DC, Warrenton, VA or Fairfax, VA.

SALARY: $120,000-$45,000

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Configuration and operational support of RHEL servers in an AWS EC2 environment
  • Install Linux and Windows servers in a virtualized environment, troubleshoot hardware/software installation and basic networking issues
  • Setting up and managing Linux and Windows systems, applications and environments and ensuring those systems comply with government security standards
  • Troubleshooting network hardware and software applications, OS upgrades, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services

Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base salary.

  • Resolve escalated issues and perform root cause analysis for complex issues.
  • Support development teams by ensuring the supporting CI/CD infrastructure is performant, stable, and kept up to date.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineer or similar experience
  • TS SCI CI POLY required at the time of hire.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux
  • Advanced knowledge, including 4+ years of experience, in one or more of the following areas:
  • Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure as Code, specifically managing Salt or Ansible
  • Experience working with automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages, specifically YAML, Python, Bash, and/or Ruby
  • Experience using version control tools such as Git.
  • Willingness to work on-call rotation including nights/weekends.
The likely salary range for this position is $133,369 - $180,441. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

A Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining
Linux-based systems within an organization. They ensure the stability, security, and performance of Linux servers and workstations. The Linux Systems Engineer handles system configurations, software updates, troubleshooting, and supports IT projects involving Linux environments.

These positions are located in Alexandria, VA.  All positions require an active/current TS/SCI security  clearance  and be willing and able to pass an additional polygraph  as needed.
 
As a Linux Systems Engineer, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Duties:
  • Responsible for installing, updating, patching, removing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all existing and future installations of Red Hat Linux servers.
  • li>Provide technical support and training to end-users and IT staff for Linux systems.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls and access controls.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues promptly.
  • Plan and execute software updates and deployments using package management tools.
  • Continuously monitor system performance and resource utilization, making adjustments as needed.
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery procedures for Linux systems.

  • Skills in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate tasks and processes.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for Linux systems, including firewall and SELinux configuration.
  • Understanding of network configurations and protocols related to Linux environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Linux Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and ongoing support of our organization's network infrastructure-including LANs, WANs, and internet systems. You will ensure continuous network availability for all users, conduct performance monitoring, and carry out maintenance activities as needed to optimize uptime and reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system
  • Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
  • May monitor and test Web site performance to ensure Web sites operate correctly and without interruption
  • May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.
  • May supervise computer user support specialists and computer network support specialists. May administer network security measures


Qualifications
  • Must have at minimum an Active Secret clearance
  • 3+ years of experience required
  • Bachelors Degree in related field required
  • Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments
  • Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks
  • Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems
  • Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable
  • Typically performs all functional duties independently
  • Ability to report onsite in Annapolis Junction, MD 5x/week
