Preferred Qualifications

Students working at the University Union or TheWELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular terms (Fall, Spring) and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) for graduate students.

Varied schedule with some nights and weekends required. Schedule is dependent on events. Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks (winter, spring & summer).

Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Work is performed inside and outside a public building, during daytime and nighttime hours.

Summary:

The Sound Engineer/Audio Technician will work with the Production Team to supply superior sound reinforcement for our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as primary audio engineer and board operator for selected events.
  
• Troubleshooting and repair of all audio equipment.
  
• Installs and strikes audio equipment as required by the various events.
  
• Inspects and evaluates all audio equipment to determine effectiveness and general usage.

The Role:

As an Audio Engineer at Sofar, you'll bring the magic on the sound desk at local shows throughout NYC. Our shows are intimate and all about the music which makes the sound that much more important. Working with our local crew teams, you'll ensure that our Sofar shows sound incredible and artists sets go off without a hitch. We work in some pretty cool and unexpected places, so you may need to get creative depending on the venue! Please note: this is a month-to-month contract role. During that period of time, you are expected to work consistent shifts (2-4 per month depending on show volume) and bring your own gear to shows, including PA and mixer. The majority of our shows take place during the evenings on Thursday - Saturday.

The primary role of this position is to be the lead audio engineer for the Classroom AV Services department. As part of the Engineering Team of Classroom AV Services, this position will work to research, design, and deploy audio solutions that meet the needs of the spaces serviced by Classroom AV Services. This position will act as the main DSP programmer for the department and ensure that all audio systems are of peak quality at all times. This position will assist in the installation of AV systems with a focus on the audio solutions of the project. The audio solutions in question could be installed or portable and include DSPs, microphones, amplifiers, speakers, source audio, and conferencing audio. This position will be the main audio technician for any live events supported by the department including the Board of Visitors meetings. This position will act as a Tier 3 Technician to Tier 1 and 2 support staff for the department. As such, this position will troubleshoot any issues reported by those staff and find a resolution to the issue ASAP. Should the issue be related to product failure, the person in this position will be responsible for swapping out the faulty product with a working unit and testing the system for full functionality. All issues and work performed should be tracked within the department's ticketing system. Further, any product inventory updates should be reflected in the department's asset management solution.

• Oversee and manage all aspects of live sound engineering for various events, from setup to tear-down.
• Set up, operate, and maintain professional audio equipment, including digital and analog mixing consoles, microphones, PA systems, monitors, and effects processors.
• Mix front-of-house (FOH) sound and monitor mixes to the highest standards, ensuring clarity, balance, and impact.
• Conduct sound checks and line checks before performances.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any audio-related technical issues that may arise during events.
• Collaborate effectively with artists, bands, and other performers to understand their sound requirements.
• Work closely with stage managers, lighting designers, and other production personnel to ensure smooth event execution.
• Maintain an inventory of audio equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and properly stored.
• Advise on the selection and procurement of new audio equipment.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and procedures related to audio equipment setup and operation.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in audio technology and live sound techniques.
• Manage and mentor junior audio technicians when applicable.
• Develop and implement sound system designs tailored to specific venues and event types.
• Provide clear and concise communication with all team members and stakeholders.

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Live Sound Engineer, with significant experience leading audio operations.
• Proven experience mixing for a variety of musical genres and event types.
• Expertise in operating digital mixing consoles (e.g., Yamaha CL/QL series, Avid Venue, Behringer X32/M32) and analog consoles.
• Deep understanding of microphone techniques, signal processing, acoustics, and sound system design.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting audio systems and diagnosing technical problems quickly and effectively.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of audio networking protocols (e.g., Dante, AVB).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
• A passion for live music and delivering exceptional audio experiences.
• Relevant certifications or formal training in audio engineering are a plus.
