Role Overview

ABS Global, a Genus Company is expanding our livestock team. We are looking to fill a Day Shift Livestock Handler position with starting pay at $21/hr. The typical work schedule is from 5:30AM to 2:00PM, Monday through Friday and every 5th weekend. This position is located at our Leeds facility in Rio, WI.

Responsibilities include providing excellent care and maintenance of our bull and mount population, which includes feeding, semen collection production, health testing, assisting with bull movements, keeping the bulls comfortable and dry, hoof trimming, grooming and assisting with the treatment of bulls as directed by our Veterinary staff. Providing maintenance, cleaning, upkeep and security of the facilities is another key responsibility. Being a positive team member within the livestock staff. Maintaining professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors at all times.

You Will

To consistently maintain bull health and hygiene standards for bulls at the Leeds facility. To include:
  • Assist with feeding, bedding and hygiene on a daily basis.
  • Assist with grooming, washing and hoof trimming of bulls.
  • Assist with picture taking.
  • Assist with manure removal.
  • Assist with and take the lead in transporting bulls.
  • Monitor bull health for injury and illness and report to Veterinary department and Supervisor or Manager of department.
To assist with collection of semen in accordance with quality standards and company safety policies. To Include:
  • Adhere to all quality control measures relevant to the health, safety and hygiene of employees and bulls.
To provide maintenance and upkeep of ABS facilities consistent with our quality image and to ensure employee and bull safety. To include:
  • Maintaining barn in proper working condition and appearance for tours and health of bulls.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment in workable and safe conditions at all times.
  • Observe and promote all safety rules.
  • Assist with lawn mowing and snow removal as needed for image and safety.
To ensure the image and service orientation of the department and ABS remains professional at all times.

To ensure the philosophy of effective teamwork is maintained in the Livestock department. To Include:
  • Maintain professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors at all times.

Requirements

  • 2 years or more of cattle experience gained through industry and/or farming experience.
  • Knowledge of and skill in farming operations and cattle handling.
  • Mechanical knowledge and maintenance skills for emergency repair of equipment.

Pay starts at $12.000 - $13.00/hour DOE + tips

? What You Should Know:

  • This is an on-your-feet, hands-on, sometimes-sweaty kind of job.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs (golden retrievers don't walk themselves to the tub).

  • Availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays required (pets don't take days off).

  • Exposure to cleaning supplies, pet hair, and, ahem, "accidents" is part of the gig.

? What You Bring to the Table:

  • A borderline-obsessive love for animals. (We get it. We're the same.)

  • Prior kennel or animal care experience is a plus, but if you're brand new and eager to learn-we want to meet you!

  • A cool, calm, and professional demeanor-even when a Great Dane steals your mop.

  • A willingness to get your hands dirty (literally).

  • High schoolers, college students, second-job hustlers-we've got room in the pack.

? What You'll Be Doing (Besides Making Furry Friends for Life):

  • Keeping pet enclosures and play areas spotless, safe, and sanitized (because nobody likes a stinky litter box).

  • Serving up meals and fresh water like a 5-star pet resort concierge.

  • Monitoring the health, happiness, and, yes, poop of every pet guest-because details matter.

  • Reporting anything unusual to the General or Assistant Manager (you'll be their eyes and ears).

  • Supervising playtime, tail-wagging, and the occasional game of fetch.

  • Assisting with brushing and bath time (rubber ducky optional).

  • Handling laundry and belongings so every pet has clean snuggly stuff.

  • Making tails wag. That's the real goal here.
