+ The Animal Care Technician I will change and/or clean soiled animal cages and/or pens, feeding devices and watering devices.

+ Record daily animal care activities on room check-sheets, enter work activities into database, and contact appropriate personnel regarding dead/sick animals via e-mail or phone.
+ Collect soiled animal bedding and other wastes and transports to designated waste disposal sites (i.e. cage wash room or dumpster).
+ Procure animal feed, bedding and supplies from appropriate support areas and transport to required use site. Weigh, administer medications, breed, record breeding status data, euthanize, restrain, and transport laboratory animals as directed by supervisor or veterinarian.
+ Scan cage cards to record animal census in the animal rooms and posts reports every week.
+ Select, prepare, dispense and utilize hazardous chemicals and disinfectants according to manufacturer's instructions in cleaning and sanitizing animal rooms, racks, cages and pens and animal support areas.
+ Operate mechanical equipment such as floor buffers, high pressure washers, laundry equipment, and environmental monitoring equipment for cleaning/sanitizing purposes.
+ Clean/sanitize/disinfects animal holding rooms, procedure rooms, support rooms.
+ On occasion may be required to drive a University vehicle to transport animals in cases of emergency.

We are seeking **Animal Care Associates** for our **Breed Department** in **Hollister, CA** . As an Animal Care Associate, you will perform routine animal husbandry and other production duties. You will also maintain supplies and environment of environmentally-controlled work area(s).

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Perform routine animal husbandry duties and monitor daily health and welfare to maintain quality and health of animals.
+ Handle, transfer, and distribute animals, supplies and waste as needed to and from work area(s).
+ Monitor animal health by observing animal behavior, physical appearance, and physical environment. Identify and report any abnormal findings.
+ Responsible for collecting health monitoring swabs and following health monitoring schedules.
+ Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and/or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Maintain recordkeeping pertaining to animal or supply area inventories.
+ Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain the barrier room barrier.
+ Use supplies according to safety guidelines. Perform all job-related duties in accordance with company safety procedures.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Perform routine animal husbandry duties and monitor daily health and welfare to maintain quality and health of animals.
+ Handle, transfer, and distribute animals, supplies and waste as needed to and from work area(s).
+ Monitor animal health by observing animal behavior, physical appearance, and physical environment. Identify and report any abnormal findings.
+ Responsible for collecting health monitoring swabs and following health monitoring schedules.
+ Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and/or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Maintain recordkeeping pertaining to animal or supply area inventories.
+ Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain the barrier room barrier.
+ Use supplies according to safety guidelines. Perform all job-related duties in accordance with company safety procedures.
+ Colony Management
+ Perform all other related duties as assigned.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**

+ Regularly works with chemicals that require the use of respirators. Medical clearance is required prior to using respirators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Perform entry-level husbandry tasks, including supplying food, bedding, water and environmental enrichment.
+ Maintain rat and mouse colonies, including setting up matings, weaning and sexing of offspring, genetic sampling of animals.
+ Handle rodents (mice and rats), including restraining of animals for collection of fecal pellets, ear/tail sampling as well as tagging animals for identification.
+ Observe animals for any abnormalities or common health issues.
+ Identify and select specific animals for customer shipments, genotyping, health monitoring, matings, transfers or other various tasks as needed.
+ Learn, understand, and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with direct supervision and instruction for most processes/tasks.
+ Learn and strictly follow all animal welfare standards and biosecurity procedures necessary to maintain isolator integrity and animal health status, including the proper sterilization and entry of supplies/animals into isolators.
