Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Software & Technical Support Engineer who thrives at the intersection of data analysis and equipment-level technical expertise. This hybrid role is ideal for a software-centric engineer who is experienced with coding for data analysis and troubleshooting software/hardware problems. You must be eager to gain deep knowledge of our hardware equipment and motivated to observe machine behaviors.
The successful candidate will work across internal teams and customer-facing roles, supporting software-related projects, hardware systems,and analyzing technical issues. This position requires a strong foundation in data-driven troubleshooting, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to learning hardware systems critical to our toolset.
Key Responsibilities
Software Analysis
- Analyze, test, and maintain software solutions to support internal and customer-facing applications
- Implement software enhancements, bug fixes, and upgrades across platforms
- Analyze and interpret equipment-level data for faults and to drive improvement and decision-making
- Perform parameter comparisons for tool matching
- Collaborate with internal teams (Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Field Support) to identify technical needs and implement solutions
- Develop technical documentation and user guides for software tools
Technical Support & Field Engineering
- Provide proactive and reactive technical support for SCREEN tools, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis of software and hardware interactions
- Learn and understand SCREEN hardware platforms (Main PC, VME, EEQA PC, Robot Controller, etc.)
- Support software upgrades, downgrades, and restorations in field environments
- Use structured problem-solving techniques (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, KT) to resolve issues and drive lessons learned
- Interface with global teams, including Japan-based engineering and system experts
- Mentor and support Field Service Engineers (FSEs) on technical issues and software handling
- Prepare and present technical findings, lessons learned, and analysis summaries to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 1+ years of hands-on software analysis & troubleshooting experience (internships included)
- Proficient in software debugging, data analysis, and scripting/programming such as Python data science libraries and Access VBA/SQL
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn and understand complex hardware systems
- Comfortable working in cleanroom environments, involving direct equipment interaction
- Ability to travel up to 20-40% as needed
Desired Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of industrial equipment or semiconductor tools
- Basic understanding of control systems, robotics, or embedded platforms
- Hands-on experience supporting or troubleshooting technical systems
- Experience with structured problem-solving (8D, Fishbone, etc.)
- Japanese language skills a plus
- Previous experience supporting or working alongside Field Service or Customer Engineering teams

Job Description
The selected candidate will:
1. Be responsible for all Sigma Air Utility compressed air systems through:
1. Remote Monitoring
1. Remote dial-in to the compressor station and evaluate the demand to supply profile.
2. Independently act on system alarms and e-mail notifications.
3. Pro-actively coordinate with servicing partners and/or site personnel to address critical alarms, including dispatching technicians after hours.
4. Monitor service intervals, coordinate scheduling of on-site service and maintenance activity.
5. Schedule and coordinate site visits for regular systems inspections.
6. When required perform site audits to identify potential areas of improvement.
7. Analyze data with Kaeser proprietary software to correlate faults to system operation and recognize system trends.
8. Provide reports based on analyzed data for escalations and management of site performance.
2. Coordinates with the Technical Department to:
1. Independently review service intervals and optimize based on site data analysis.
2. Provide as necessary "real world" data for machine service and maintenance lifecycle calculations.
3. Evaluate necessary improvement initiatives.
4. When necessary supervise site work to assure adherence to the specifications.
5. Perform task and supervise activities within the approved budgets and provide justification when cost overruns occur.
6. Monitors compressors and compressed air stations outside of SAU as required.
2. Responsible for learning and following all applicable procedures and work instructions relating to the Company's quality and environmental system.
3. Performs all other duties assigned by the Manager.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate's background will include:
+ High School Diploma required; Bachelor degree required or equivalent experience 3+ years job related experience.
+ Good customer service experience.
+ Previous experience as a technician, troubleshooting or mechanical aptitude preferred.
+ Familiar with data processing including graphing and interpretation preferred.
+ Understanding of compressed air systems and the application of supply side components preferred.
+ Ability to understand and produce/edit technical documents.
+ Good communication skills/phone skills required.
+ Computer skills, including proficiency in Google Workspace.
+ SAP experience preferred.

# Project Overview:
Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas. RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

# Job Summary:
The Electrical Controls and Monitoring System (ECMS) Specialist will be responsible for the pre-commissioning and commissioning of the project's plant ECMS. They will be responsible for ensuring the ECMS scope will be completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all project safety, quality and design standards. The candidate for this position should have a strong knowledge in the testing and operation of HV/MV/LV electrical utility, distribution and utilization power systems as well as AC Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPSs), battery chargers, Adjustable Speed Drive Systems (ASDSs), substation annunciators, power capacitor banks, etc via a plant-wide EMCS. #LI-SP1
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Reviews electrical 'Single Line Diagrams', Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) "Logic Diagrams", ECMS/Protective Fiber Optic Patching Schedule and all 'ECMS related documentation' to fully understand the project ECMS pre-commissioning and commissioning scope.
+ Reviews and provides ECMS input on project electrical engineering and supplier design/documentation as required through the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of the project.
+ Assesses the installation and network infrastructure of ECMS supplier packages to ensure project compliance and monitors performance through the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of the project.
+ Works directly under the direction of the Lead Electrical CSU Engineer and works with electrical CSU supervisors/technicians to complete all ECMS activities through the pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, operation and final handover phases of the project.
+ Works with the ECMS 'home' office engineering group and ECMS supplier field representatives to help resolve ECMS issues as required during the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of the project.
+ Responsible to assist in validating protection setting and testing microprocessor protection relays, troubleshoot any relay logic and mis-operations.
+ Prepares all requisite pre-commissioning and commissioning ECMS testing documentation, ensuring its completion and submission via Smart Completions for the purposes of start-up, operation, and final handover
# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ University/B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering plus 10 years of experience or 15 years of equivalent industry experience in lieu of a degree.
# Required Knowledge and Skills:
+ A strong knowledge of testing ECMS systems with electrical utility and large plant power systems via various type of IEC 61850 communication protocols, such as Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS), Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE), Modbus TCP/IP and Profinet communication.
+ A strong knowledge of the IEC 61850 network architectures both (Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and High-Availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR).
+ A strong knowledge in the functionality and operation of HV (138kV) / MV (34.5kV, 13.8kV, 4.16kV) / LV (600V, 480V) utility and large plant power systems and equipment, particularly on ABB, GE and SEL microprocessor protection relays.
+ Experience in download and upload IED Capability Description (ICD) files using various configuration tools.
+ Experience in fiber optic/CAT connection troubleshooting and verification of fiber optic patching schedule.
+ Experience on an LNG construction site, especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast, is preferred.
+ Experience in the design and operation of LNG facilities is preferred.
+ Heavy industrial 'direct hire' construction experience with the type of work to be undertaken in a lump-sum/turn-key environment is preferred.
+ Collaborates well in a team environment and able to adapt to change.

Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).
