Position Overview

We're looking for a Packaging Engineer to join our Supply Chain & Logistics team: someone who can blend technical expertise with practical problem solving to ensure products move efficiently from production to delivery. In this role, you'll design packaging and container solutions that protect products, improve handling, and reduce costs, all while keeping sustainability, compliance, and operational efficiency front of mind.

Responsibilities

* Manage daily, weekly and monthly ad-hoc projects as well as larger, multifaceted projects requiring coordination, data gathering, analysis and reporting.
* Design packaging for components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods
* Ensure designs meet protection, ergonomic, and regulatory requirements (including hazmat and environmental standards)
* Optimize designs for cost, weight, space utilization, and ease of handling
* Develop reusable and returnable container systems to reduce waste and improve efficiency
* Standardize container types to simplify logistics and reduce complexity
* Work with vendors to source containers that meet specifications

Supply Chain Optimization

* Improve packaging and container designs to maximize transportation efficiency
* Reduce packaging waste without compromising product integrity
* Use time studies and simulations to streamline material flow in production and warehousing

Cross-Functional Collaboration

* Partner with procurement, suppliers, logistics, and production to align packaging with supply chain goals.
* Work with production engineers to support manufacturing efficiency.
* Coordinate with quality teams to test and validate packaging performance.

Sustainability Initiatives

* Increase use of recyclable or biodegradable materials.
* Minimize environmental impact through smarter material usage and reusable system

Technical Documentation & Standards

* Create and maintain packaging specifications, standards, and drawings
* Document best practices for packaging and containerization
* Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISTA and ISO 11607

Continuous Improvement & Problem-Solving

* Troubleshoot packaging and container issues in the supply chain.
* Conduct root cause analyses and implement solutions
* Track and measure improvements.

Cost Management

* Analyze packaging and container costs for optimization opportunities
* Negotiate with suppliers to achieve savings without sacrificing quality
* Monitor and control packaging spend across operations

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor's degree


* At least 2 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

* Master's degree


* At least 1 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

* At least 5 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

Key Responsibilities:

Logistics & Warehousing

  • Ensure the operating management of the stock (e.g. logistics activities, customs, stock monitoring, inventory count, input of results in IT systems and warehouse quality activities)
  • Ensure smooth logistics operations and related processes for managed Warehouses and Transportation flows
  • Develop, maintain and accountable for the integrity of the full Logistics Plan, aligning with sales, production scheduling, and inventory plans
  • Monitor Logistics KPIs and identify improvement opportunities
  • Ensure the Logistics function adheres to all relevant legislation.
  • Oversee Warehousing storage and usage strategy while implementing inventory reconciliation and cost control at multiple locations, internal and external

Warehouse and Transportation Management

  • Assures a proper inventory execution and documentation, and gives input for possible corrective actions
  • Manages inventory across the network incl. co-packer, co-manufacturers and potentially other Ecosystem related businesses
  • Provides support in the definition and negotiation of agreements and prices for the transports needed
  • Guarantees the emission and management of transport service orders, in accordance with local laws and regulations, guaranteeing costs, quality and liability defined by Nonnis guidelines
  • Implement strategies to balance seasonal fluctuations in demand for Nonni's specialty baked goods

Supply Chain Development:

  • Development of the Supply Chain functions
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and improve service levels

Budgeting:

  • Defines logistics budget / ensure minimal deviation vs actual (budget ownership)
  • Interfaces with local Bakery Warehousing day-to-day operational staff to align priorities

Supplier Relationships:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with Suppliers, managing costs and service

Reporting:

  • Achievement of Measures / KPI Design
  • Compilation of period end reports, ensuring key issues are highlighted in period commentary
  • Ensure CI culture becomes business as usual
  • Identify and deliver Logistics budgeted savings through identified projects
  • Identify opportunities to maximize supply chain efficiency and reduce cost particularly relating to customer ordering patterns and network design

  • Strong experience within Supply Chain, 7+ years with 3+ years in management positions
