The Supply Chain Planner is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective planning of inventory, materials, and production to meet customer demand while optimizing costs and service levels. This role collaborates with suppliers, procurement, operations, and logistics teams to develop and execute planning strategies that support business objectives.

A Typical Day

  • Develop and maintain supply plans to ensure product availability in line with demand forecasts.
  • Analyze demand trends and adjust planning parameters to optimize inventory levels and minimize stockouts or excess.
  • Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to manage purchase orders, lead times, and replenishment strategies.
  • Monitor supply chain performance metrics, identify issues or risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes, providing supply input and analysis to support decisions.
  • Coordinate with production, warehouse, and logistics teams to align supply plans with operational capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate data within planning systems (e.g. ERP, MRP, or APS tools) including safety stock levels and item parameters.
  • Support new product introductions, discontinuations, and promotions with effective supply plans.
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and present supply planning reports to management as required.

To Land This Opportunity

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in supply planning, demand planning, or inventory management.
  • Proficiency with planning software (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Kinaxis, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • You're proficient in English (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles, inventory optimization, and replenishment strategies.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or retail supply chain environments.
  • Familiarity with S&OP processes and integrated business planning is helpful.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification gets you bonus points.

The success and safety of every mission depends on getting needed supplies, materials and equipment at a moment's notice. Supply Corps Officers make sure the Navy has what it needs, when it needs it. Responsibilities for this job may include:

  • Analyzing the demand for supplies and forecast future needs
  • Ensuring all parts and equipment needed for ship maintenance and repairs are ordered and received on time
  • Overseeing all retail services, logistics and culinary operations
  • Managing the inspection, shipping, handling and packaging of supplies and equipment
  • Directing personnel who receive inventory and issue supplies and equipment
  • Evaluating bids and proposals submitted by potential suppliers

Work Environment

Professionals in Navy purchasing, supply and logistics work in offices, shore-based warehouses, air cargo terminals at naval air stations and aboard ships and submarines. Training & Advancement

Those pursuing a Supply Corps Officer position are required to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI. OCS is a program that provides a comprehensive and intense introduction to the responsibilities of Navy Staff Corps Officers over the course of approximately three months. Here they learn about the military structure of the U.S. Navy, its rich history of traditions and customs, leadership development and military etiquette.

Once that training is complete, you will learn the ins and outs of life as a Supply Corps Officer through the following specialized training programs:

Navy Supply School (27 weeks) in Newport, RI, for training in inventory management, food and retail operations, leadership, management and problem solving.

Advanced Training

Advanced training for prospective Supply Corps Officers may also be available. This specialized training may cover subjects including transportation management, freight classifications, methods of working with civilian carriers and special handling of medical goods and explosives.

Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

Post-Service Opportunities

It's also important to note that specialized training received and work experience gained in the course of service can lead to valuable credentialing and occupational opportunities in related fields like logistics and business management.

Qualifications & Requirements

A degree from a four-year college or university is a minimum educational requirement to become a Commissioned Officer. You must also attend Officer Training. There may be exceptions to the degree requirements based on extensive service experience.

To qualify for employment consideration as a Supply Corps Officer in the Navy, you must be a U.S. citizen, be qualified for sea duty and be willing to serve worldwide. Degrees in business, science, technology, engineering and mathematics are preferred but not required. A graduate degree is preferred by not required.

General qualifications may vary depending upon whether you're currently serving, whether you've served before or whether you've never served before.

Part-Time Opportunities

Serving part-time in the Navy Reserve, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Supply Corps Officers in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes. For annual training, Supply Corps Officers may serve anywhere in the world, whether at sea or on shore stations at home and abroad.

Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent.

Supply Corps Officers in the Navy Reserve serve in an Officer role. Before receiving the ongoing professional training that comes with this job, initial training requirements must first be met.

For current or former Navy Officers (NAVET): Prior experience satisfies the initial leadership training requirement - so you will not need to go through Officer Training again.

Officers who previously held a commission in another United States Military Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Public Health Service, or United States Coast Guard are exempt from attending ODS or LDO/CWO Academy.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Assistant Director of Supply Chain Operations is responsible for the daily operations of all functions assigned by the Supply Chain Director within the facility. The Assistant Director will be assigned all supply chain responsibilities for selected campuses within the facility. The Assistant Director of Supply Chain Operations assists in integrating the departments services with the hospitals primary functions, develops/implements policies and procedures that guide or support service, assesses and improves department performance, and ensures orientation and continuing education of departmental staff as assigned. This person may recommend resources/space needed by the department and may participate in the selection of outside services with the Director of Supply Chain Operations. They serve as a key promoter of the Service Center, which strives to meet and exceed the needs of its customers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all facility Supply Chain activities
  • Manage the profit and loss of the facility Supply Chain operations
  • Execute the infrastructure project plan for the facility. This includes the implementation of the standardization programs for all supply chain functions, SMART cleanup, master file standardization, online requisitioning, and EDI
  • Facilitate the implementation of market-based purchasing projects at the facility
  • Execute the implementation and operational plan for all of the point of use systems
  • Coordinate, manage, and evaluate facility Supply Chain personnel
  • Create a supportive environment for supply chain staff development and the delivery of supply chain solutions
  • Raise and resolve facility-based supply chain issues and improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate and drive efforts to enable supply improvement initiatives (SII) to succeed within the facility
  • Facilitate the standardization of products and optimize supply utilization through effective collaboration with Physicians and clinicians
  • Manage the facility implementation plan, identify and mitigate risks (leverage lessons learned, utilize proactive communication techniques), and monitor resource allocations to ensure successful execution of plan
  • Execute the Supply Chain Performance Measurement plan at the facility and report these results to the Director of Supply Chain Operations in an accurate and timely manner
  • Execute a continuous improvement program for supply chain functions
  • Ensure useful knowledge is captured and promote sharing of information
  • Recommends sufficient number of qualified/competent staff
  • Determines staff qualifications and competence. Develops and maintains accurate initial and annual competency checklists, and initiates completion of initial and annual competency attestation forms
  • Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care of the services delivered
  • Attends in-service presentations, and complete mandatory education weekly including, but not limited to, infection control, patient safety, quality improvements, MSDS and OSHA Standards
  • Demonstrates knowledge of occurrence reporting system and utilizes system to report potential patient safety issues
  • Is authorized to transport and deliver legend drugs, non-prescription drugs, contrast media and drug containing devices relative to core competencies of the position
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Logistics, Supply Chain, or healthcare related focus- Required
  • Three years leadership experience preferred and/or AD program graduate- Preferred
