We are seeking a dedicated and mechanically inclined Machine Operator with a strong attendance record to join our team. Ideal candidates will have industrial or manufacturing experience, be comfortable working on their feet for entire shifts, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
**Responsibilities**
+ Operate up to three extrusion lines simultaneously.
+ Perform tool changes and die cleaning as needed.
+ Grade own rejects and stack profiles on carts or bundle in boxes.
+ Verify piece counts for carts and boxes.
+ Monitor extrusion rate and profile configuration.
+ Maintain a supply of compounds staged at the machine.
+ Assist in moving carts when necessary.
+ Clean profiles as necessary.
+ Work in the tool honing department to clean and refinish used tooling.
**Essential Skills**
+ Machine operation experience.
+ Ability to use hand tools and perform general labor tasks.
+ Experience with assembly and inspection.
+ Proficiency with a tape measure.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
+ Ability to read, write, and understand English.

**Work Environment**
The position is based in an enclosed manufacturing facility that can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with heaters provided during the colder months. The facility operates on three shifts (8 AM-4 PM, 4 PM-12 AM, 12 AM-8 AM) and is open seven days a week. Employees typically work five days on and two days off, with days off not usually on weekends. The building is clean and has a mild manufacturing environment. There are no official breaks during shifts; employees must inform their supervisor to watch their lines when they need a break.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jeannette, Pennsylvania.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $17.35 - $18.60/hr.

Summary
Utilize industrial grinders, precision measuring tools, and optical comparators to produce tungsten carbide rolls meeting product specifications and Company objectives.
Essential Functions

  • Utilize grinding machines to manufacture tungsten carbide rolls to blueprints and work instructions.
  • Select, dress, and mount grinding wheel according to specification using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
  • Monitor machine operations and operate more than one machine, as needed.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using measuring devices, ensuring that surfaces and measurements meet specifications.
  • Read blueprints and utilize hand tools.
  • Abide by safety policies and procedures to ensure safe work practices.

Minimum Experience and Training

Primary Function:

To set up and operate various machines required to saw, center, plug, rough turn, finish turn, grind, mill, and polish rolls, shafts, etc.


Tools and Equipment:

CNC control lathes, CNC control duplex and post milling machines, CNC control roll grinders, band saws and overhead cranes. Measuring tools such as: calipers, scales, gauges, indicators, and micrometers. Ordinary hand and portable tools such as: wrenches, hammers, grinders, as well as chains, cables, nylon slings and other lifting equipment. Buffing, stamping, painting equipment and supplies.

Rolls, shafts, etc.

Requirements:

Working Procedures:

• Receives work orders, prints and instructions from Foreman

• Locates work piece and loads piece in the machine with the overhead crane. Turns piece end for end as required. Transfers finished piece from machine to storage area

• Checks and records roll dimensions, stock and run out. Compares with print dimensions

• Obtain cutting tools from tool room. Positions proper tools in tool turret. Changes cutting tools or inserts as required. Sets tool off-set in the CNC control as required

• According to program instructions, sets and checks initial starting zero position

• Downloads proper programs in the CNC control for operation to be performed; Start program

• May operate lathe, mill, and roll grinder under semi-automatic control by manually entering code into control panel

• May operate controls to change program settings as required when excessive stock is encountered or for other dimensional variations

• Check finished machined dimensions and run out on turned surfaces as required

• Set up machine for various size rolls by moving and adjusting tailstock, adjusting headstock jaws, or setting up roller rest for plugging or boring operation as required

• Secures cutting tool inserts from Tool Room and positions the inserts into the proper toolholder or cutter

• Checks and records post hardened roll body/neck run out

• Machine test cut on end of neck and/or body to establish starting point and size


Requirements:

5+ years of Machine Operator experience is required

• Operates machine to predetermined specified speed and feeds

• Reports defects that occur during the machining of the roll or shaft

• Unloads machine, transfers piece to the storage pile or designated area

• Hooks and directs crane in transferring piece to storage area

• Cleans, lubricates and makes minor repairs or adjustments to machines; maintains clean and orderly working area

• May operate remote control crane to position part in or remove part from machines

• May operate multiple machines if cycle time warrants

• Locates and moves pieces to and from storage area using mobile material handling equipment

• Assists in staging FEP material for inspection by the Manufacturing Technician

• May buff FEP material with a flap wheel as required for testing

• May stamp or paint identification on FEP material if required

  • Operates laser by loading pre-made programs into the machine to perform cuts as directed by work orders.
  • Verifies quality of parts that ensures material type, quality, and accuracy to engineering drawings.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machine as required per charts.
  • Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks stated above.
