Job Summary: Operate machines that break down railcar wheelsets, recondition axles to be used for new sets, mount new wheels to reconditioned axles, recondition wheelsets, move material and press new bearings on wheelsets that have been reconditioned or new sets.

Job Duties:

• Use measuring devices (i.e. gages, calipers)
• Ability to read micrometers and work to tight tolerances

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Operating extrusion and blow-molding manufacturing production machines and equipment.

• Monitoring and adjusting production machine settings (heat control, water cooling temperatures, hydraulic pressure) to keep production running smoothly.

• Troubleshooting machines and doing basic maintenance.

• Checking product quality to assure it meets customer specifications (e.g., bottle weights, dimensions).

• Teaming up with your co-workers to find smarter ways to do things.

• Learning new skills with hands-on training and career development opportunities.

What You Bring to the Team:

• At least 1 year of experience operating manufacturing equipment in a high-volume production environment.

• Mechanical inclination – you like to fix things, use tools, work with your hands.

• Knowledge of extrusion or blow molding machines and equipment is a plus!

• Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electromechanical systems is a plus!

• Strong problem-solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Set up industrial washer for cleaning parts
• Apply masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated
• Load parts on the conveyor
• Mix coating liquid to the desired color or pour the powder into the hopper
• Set baking oven to specified temperature to properly bake paint or powder
• Check parts afterward to ensure the correct paint thickness
• Remove parts from the conveyor and de-mask as required
• Comply with company safety protocols and always wear protective gear

• Required to stand for long periods
• Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions including extreme heat, humidity, and cold

• Complete the Assistant Operator training program.
• Maintain a knowledge of the raw material transfer systems for the facility extruders.
• Maintain a knowledge of material locations in warehouse and factory.
• Responsible for maintaining resin silo levels and notifying the proper departments when needing refilled.
• Provide relief coverage for other extruders to cover operators during their breaks.
• Receive general instructions and formulations from Shift Supervisor.
• Become familiarized with Material Safety Data Sheets for products being used for safe handling.
• Maintain a knowledge of the Mixer job requirements for entire facility.
• Record material identification and amounts of material used.
• Package and properly label finished material and place in holding area.
• Perform miscellaneous maintenance on equipment.
• Wear proper safety equipment as specified by the Material Safety Data Sheet.
• Maintain clean and safe work area and report all hazards in the factory to Supervisor.
• Assist Operators when needed.
• Perform other duties assigned and assignments as directed by Production Supervisor.

Preferred experience, training, and skills:

Sets up and operates conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces in a low volume/high mix environment. Sets up and operates either CNC lathes or CNC milling centers to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and determines sequence of operations
• Selects, positions and secures tool in tool holder (chuck, collet, or tool post)
• Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures
• Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other and to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut
• Edits and updates CNC programs by working with programmers and engineering for continuous improvement
• Sets up fixture and jaws. Establish start up dimensions for machine multiple times a day
• Observes operation of machine
• Verifies quality of machined work piece to specifications using a variety of different calibrated gauges
• Operates bench tools to de-burr parts
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

• Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school (preferred)
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
