**Job Overview:**
As the Superintendent of the Large Machine Shop, you will be pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of our production operations. Your primary responsibility will be to lead and optimize all activities within the production areas, ensuring alignment with organizational goals while driving efficiency, safety, and quality throughout the manufacturing process.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Direct and coordinate all production activities, guaranteeing adherence to safety, quality, scheduling, and cost objectives within assigned cost centers.
+ Develop and implement strategic initiatives for continuous improvement across all operational functions, influencing long-term growth and optimizing expense management. Where appropriate, develop and implement innovative machining techniques or technologies to improve quality, schedule and cost performance
+ Enhance coordination and collaboration among manufacturing functions, delivering effective support across shop-to-shop interfaces.
+ Interpret, implement, and uphold all corporate and divisional policies relevant to production activities, ensuring compliance and consistency throughout the organization.
+ Manage labor relations at the shop level by collaborating with union representatives and labor relations personnel, fostering a positive workplace culture and efficient communication.
+ Strategically oversee production to ensure the timely fulfillment of production schedules while maintaining competitive fabrication spans that align with budgetary expectations.
+ Assess and manage shop manpower and equipment requirements, including acquisitions, justifications, maintenance, disposal, utilization, and curtailment to align with operational schedules and budgetary constraints.
+ Spearhead the identification and development of supervisory personnel, promoting effective hiring, training, development, coding, and assignment to elevate operational efficiency and utilization.
**Qualifications:**
+ 10+ years of operations leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ A minimum of 15 years of experience in a metal cutting environment.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field, or 10 years equivalent experience; an advanced degree is preferred.

At BWXT, our interns perform challenging tasks in their field of study while developing and delivering unique solutions for use in a nuclear environment. A BWXT internship not only provides valuable on the job training but allows you to be a part of something bigger!
BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Barberton, OH. Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks with the opportunity for extension. **Your Day to Day as a Desing Engineering Intern:**
BWXT Nuclear Operations Group, Inc. is seeking a motivated Welder & Machinist Intern to join our Design Engineering team. This role will provide hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, working on a variety of projects under experienced technicians.
CNC and Manual Machining:
+ Create, edit, and verify CNC programming for mills and lathes.
+ Set up and operate both manual and CNC mills and lathes.
+ Utilize drawings and measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, etc.) for part inspections.
+ Manage ordering of consumables and tools as needed.
Fabrication Tasks:
+ Perform manual welding on carbon steel, Inconel, and stainless steel.
+ Utilize CNC plasma, shears, saws, grinders, and torches in fabrication processes.
+ Rig and lift complex components weighing up to 10 tons.
+ Set up fixtures for weldments and inspect parts using measuring tools.
Facility Maintenance:
+ Conduct preventative maintenance on shop equipment, including mills, lathes, and welders.
+ Collaborate with contractors to ensure all facility maintenance tasks are completed effectively.
Quoting and Proposal Tasks:
+ Assist in quoting jobs, considering hours and material costs.
+ Prepare purchase requests and liaise with the purchasing department for material procurement.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
+ Demonstrate initiative in resolving various challenges with minimal guidance.
+ Develop innovative solutions for unique fabrication and maintenance issues, such as jammed valves, broken bolts or tools, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Completed or currently attending a machining or welding trade school program.
+ Familiarity with welding and machining processes is preferred.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
+ Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
+ Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

CNC machine set up and operation while in formalized training program.
Scope/Supervision:
A positive working relationship with team members, leads and supervision.
Responsibilities
- Successfully complete machining school and Mazatrol training.
- Setup assigned CNC machine using established procedures to effectively produce parts.
- Utilize secondary machines (cranes, drill presses, belt sanders, polishers, inspection tools, presses, peener, etc.) as needed to complete jobs.
- Select and utilize cutting tools best suited for specific machining operations.
- Load programs using appropriate methods as needed by machine tool.
- Change jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, etc. and make necessary adjustments to produce parts within specified limits.
- Setup tooling on bench or in machine as required with hand tooling or presetting instruments.
- Load tooling in machine tools as needed.
- Make final adjustments in tooling, fixtures, programs and obtain a part within specified limits.
- Responsible for first piece approval of production parts and must be able to inspect and record dimensions for features generated.
- Utilize inspection equipment to maintain quality standards.
- Manually deburr in cycle.
- Perform TPM on machine (oil, coolant) and promptly inform management of maintenance or safety issues.
- Keep work area, clean and organized using the 5S+Safety approach.
- Support LEAN, safety, on time delivery, scrap reduction, setup reduction, HPT etc.
- Be an effective team member and perform other duties as required by supervision and as responsibilities necessitate to support and improve the overall operation.
- Support continuous improvement by submitting ideas to make work areas more responsive to customer needs (quality, productivity, best practices, etc.)

**Position Overview:**
We are looking for a committed Front Line Manager to lead and supervise our skilled trades workforce in essential fabrication processes, including fitting, welding, assembly, and machining operations. This role is crucial for maintaining operational excellence, safety, and efficiency. As we strive to enhance production effectiveness and meet operational demands, the Front Line Manager will play a key role in coordinating efforts across shifts. This position is primarily for **3rd Shift** ; however, flexibility to transition between shifts and work areas is essential for ensuring seamless operations across multiple departments. **Key Responsibilities:**

+ Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a diverse team and convey information regarding complex components.
