Work Shift
Night (United States of America) Job Summary: Position will maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment and systems to include but not be limited to: pumps, motors, lamp ballasts, lamping, light to medium carpentry work, commercial door repairs, automatic door operators, light to medium sheetrock repairs, general plumbing repairs of valves, piping, and pneumatic control air systems and compressors if applicable. Will complete apprentice to journeyman's work. Position also performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and systems. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Daily Repairs * Responds to both telephoned service requests and detailed project work orders as requested on a daily basis. * Identifies the complexity of the work required, tools necessary to accomplish the work and spare parts and materials required to complete the job requested. * Prepares purchase requisitions for spare parts and materials and submits for approval and acquisition to Coordinator, receives materials and closes out documentation within three days to ensure budget requirements are met. * Makes all repairs requested in a timely fashion and turns in completed documentation on the date of the repair or work to ensure close out of documentation on the computerized maintenance management system as required. * Assists in maintaining on hand critical spare parts and materials by conducting periodic inventory and requisitioning replacements to ensure continuity of our work effort. * Rekeying locks, repairing and unlocking automatic and manual doors and repairing and/or building locks, knobs and handles as applicable. Preventative Maintenance. * Receives preventative maintenance work requests as they are printed and assesses requirements for completion as pertains to materials, access to equipment/systems and schedules the repair. * Conduct preventative maintenance as specified in the work request and follows the tasking required until completion. * Notes any deficiencies related to the preventative maintenance effort that are out of the norm and reports them to the Coordinator immediately for disposition and further action. * Follows up on repair efforts of deficiencies noted to ensure closure of the relevant documents to be compliant with Code and JCAHO Survey requirements. * Turns in completed PM documentation on the date the work is completed to ensure closure of the document in our CMMS system is done in a timely fashion. * Assists others in preventative maintenance efforts as required Miscellaneous Duties * Makes monthly tours of assigned work Zone and notes all repairs required for the zone, requiring technical assistance for completion. * Conducts inspections of above the ceiling fire and smoke walls in the assigned work Zone to ensure penetrations are sealed as required by Code. * Notifies Coordinator of such repairs, in writing, to ensure continuity of repair efforts in a proactive fashion rather than reactive. * Performs other duties as assigned by Coordinator Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. With a second manufacturing facility in Elyria, OH, Shalmet also provides rebuilding and re-engineering of customer machines. Shalmet was acquired by Carpenter Technology Corporation in 1997 and operates within the corporation’s Specialty Alloys Operations division.
1 Position available – Afternoon & Evening Shift Coverage (subject to change )
Location: Elyria, OH
Wage Range: Starting wage rate is $33.69 per hour with opportunities for advancement.
$,000 SIGN-ON BONUS (for external hires only)
Maintenance candidates hired at Shalmet will receive 2,500 upon successful completion of 6 months of employment and an additional 2,500 upon successful completion of 9 months of employment. (Note: Maintenance trainee positions are not eligible for sign-on bonuses.)
Per Policy: Unless approved by Management, employees are limited to successfully bid on no more than 2 positions in a 12-month period. Other bidding restrictions may apply.
Primary Duties:
- To inspect, test, calibrate, repair, install, fabricate, construct, adjust, lubricate, maintain, dismantle and clean all mechanical equipment working in conjunction with other production and maintenance personnel.
- Operate mobile equipment
- Operate overhead crane and follow movement of material
- Use required tools and equipment
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair mechanical problems
- Do basic metal fabrication
- Do pipe fitting / plumbing
Requirements:
- A resume outlining qualifications and experience must be submitted to be considered for this position.
- Must pass testing for related trade.
- Technical trade school, or related college field preferred. Two years industrial maintenance experience required.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Overtime, if requested, is required.
- Candidates will be expected to gain additional qualifications to progress through the various levels of their skilled trade as described in associated Position Requirements Records.
- Read, write and understand instructions
- Use basic math for measuring and required calculations
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints
- Possess knowledge of:
- General maintenance procedures
- General safety procedures including ARC Flash, Lockout/Tagout, confined space, hot work permit, etc.
- Mechanical components and trade terminology
- Proper installation of mechanical components
- Safe rigging and lifting methods
- Basic carpentry
- Oxy / acetylene setups and proper burning practices
- Basic welding skills
- Basic computer skills
- Work order system
- Achieve forklift, crane, high lift certifications
- Complete confined space training
Selection Process :

For any internal candidates, the successful candidate will be chosen based on: skills and experience, current job performance, including attendance, and interview results. Principal Accountabilities
- Complete PM work orders & follow ups as needed
- Make recommendations & suggestions to management for improvements
- Work on hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, Electrical and mechanical functions
- Using predictive technologies (Ultrasound, Infrared Thermography, Vibration, MCE, Oil Analysis)
- Advanced safety knowledge to include permit procedures, hazardous chemicals, and process safety
Required Qualifications
- Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- 18 years of age or older
- Read, write, and speak English
- Have 1-2 years of industrial maintenance experience or minimum of 7 months technical training
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experienced in the use of computers and a computerized maintenance management control system
- Perform basic fabrication (i.e. machine guards, rails, and stands)
- Experience working in a food processing environment
