The Assistant Director is knowledgeable about the components of a patient safety culture and patient safety science. The incumbent utilizes this knowledge to advance quality and patient safety at the front lines of care delivery.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Assists the Director, Department of Quality and Healthcare Safety, in executing and advancing annual performance improvement plans, including supporting education, facilitating project team meetings, and developing communications.

+ Works with leadership, physicians, and department director groups to:
o Ensure a coordinated response to unannounced external accrediting or regulatory agency visits by managing the process and staff.

o Coordinates and oversees the establishment of mechanisms to correct areas of non-compliance with applicable standards.
o Maintains familiarity with all applicable accreditation standards, keeps abreast of changes, and communicates changes to leadership and chapter experts.

+ Collaborates with UTMB Purchasing and Project Managers on procuring signage vendors and fabricators. Gathers all necessary information for signage requisitions and purchase orders. Reviews and approves all invoices from contracted signage vendors to be sent for payment.
+ During the construction phase of a project, responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing submittals, attending construction meetings, conducting site visits, and developing punch lists.
+ Supports In-House Construction in coordinating signage maintenance work orders, lifecycle projects, and operational requests from initial planning to fabrication and installation, as needed.
+ Collaborates with the Facilities Information Management team and architectural teams to assign room numbers to new rooms.
+ Produces specialized drawings, illustrations, layouts, and digital images as needed to support wayfinding projects.
**Marginal or Periodic Functions:**
+ Produces drawings and illustrations for emergency events, including building entrance closures, street closures, and pandemic masking guidelines. Work closely with MarCom, Patient Services, Ambulatory, and UTMB Police to meet stakeholder needs.
+ Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
+ Performs related duties as required.
**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:**
+ Must have a working knowledge and understanding of all applicable codes that impact signage requirements.
+ Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills are essential for this position.
+ Must possess strong organizational and time management skills.
**Working Environment:**
This position is based at UTMB's Galveston Campus. The position will primarily work in a typical office environment with occasional visits to construction job sites across UTMB locations.
**Salary Range:**
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
**Work Schedule:**
Partial Remote to be determined by the department. Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.

**JOB SUMMARY:**
Provide quality and patient safety consulting, analysis and improvement facilitation for staff and leaders throughout the Hospital.
