Reporting to the Faculty Director of the facility, the **Managing Director** provides visionary leadership, strategic guidance, and operational excellence for the technical, operational, safety, and financial aspects of As a dynamic administrative leader, the Managing Director is responsible for advising the Faculty Director on 's strategic vision and executing the vision effectively, ensuring that the organization's operations are efficient, mission-driven, and aligned with university priorities.
**POSITION SUMMARY:**
Key responsibilities include providing programmatic and technical oversight, managing organizational and staff functions, leading financial planning and reporting, and guiding business development and communications strategies. The **Managing Director** works closely with internal stakeholders, including the user community and faculty PIs, as well as various schools and business units across the university. Additionally, the **Managing Director** fosters and sustains strong relationships with external partners, including industry leaders and peer institutions, to advance 's mission and expand its impact with state-of-the-art facilities.
**CORE DUTIES:**
+ Provide strategic direction for a major function or center; create strategic plans of considerable complexity and scope; set long-range direction and make high-level decisions; propose and manage the implementation of significant programmatic changes; establish policies as needed.
+ Direct and oversee the overall scientific, engineering or technical research function for a major function or center. Collaborate with senior management, faculty and/or others in order to develop, communicate and manage a central strategic plan aligned with goals of the larger organization and consistent with the university's overall mission.
+ Identify, clarify, and resolve issues with strategic impact and substantial significance, which span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.
+ Responsible for ensuring that state-of-the-art scientific, engineering or technical research is adequately funded, staffed, equipped, and housed.
+ Accountable for ensuring finance, budget, personnel, and facilities resources are used appropriately.
+ Manage the adoption and adaptation of emerging technologies to meet changing requirements, capabilities, and opportunities.
+ Lead high-level scientific, engineering, or technical research programs and initiatives through technical design, development, integration and outreach.
+ Advise university/school-wide senior management on technical futures.
+ Collaborate with university leaders on scientific, engineering or technical research project decisions.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**
**Education & Experience:**
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. PhD degree in relevant disciplines is highly desirable. Previous cleanroom experience is required.

The annual salary target for this job in this market is $250,000-$360,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position.

Role Overview:

As a Managing Director, you will be a key contributor to helping grow the discovery team from both a revenue and solutions perspective. You will work closely with the Senior Managing Directors to help execute the strategic vision for the practice. The Managing Director will manage teams of Discovery, projects, and revenue generation. The MD will work closely with project teams to become familiar with clients' big-picture objectives and challenges and execute on critical project deliverables to ensure these objectives are met on time and with the highest quality.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as client's point of contact and Ankura's day-to-day leader in the management and execution of projects and workstreams involving the identification, collection, processing, review, and production of electronic data relevant to litigation or regulatory investigations. Specific functional Discovery tasks include
Collections/Pre-Processing:
+ Assist clients with finding, documenting, and preventing deletion of data potentially relevant to litigation, regulatory matters, or critical business operations.
+ Develop solutions and strategies to collect data with special considerations for the unique environment and project-specific complexities of an engagement.
+ Coordinate forensic collections with client and Ankura's forensics team and quality review collections documentation supplied by the forensics team.
+ Create and recommend a pre-processing strategy to the client.
+ Coordinate forensic pre-processing work (deNIST, file filters, etc.) with Ankura's forensics team, including documenting pre-processing workflow.
Processing:
+ Advise client on data reduction strategies including deNISTing, file extension filtering, date culling, and search term filtering.
+ Coordinate (provide instruction, obtain status reports, etc.) processing work with Ankura's processing team.
+ Analyze exception reports, develop recommendations for handling each type of exception, and communicate plan to client.
+ Quality review search hit reports prior to sending to client.
Review:
+ Assist clients with the selection of the appropriate technology to meet specific project objectives.
+ Assist with development of efficient work streams, batching strategy, and technology configuration for 1st, 2nd, 3rd tier review; as well as witness review, exhibit designation, and trial preparation.
+ Conduct customized Relativity training sessions for clients, emphasizing appropriate add-on features as necessary.
+ Advise clients regarding the efficient use of concept clustering, near-duplicate identification, e-mail threading, and assisted review (predictive coding) within the Relativity tool.
+ Design customized reports for clients.
+ Troubleshoot Relativity issues with kCura and coordinate custom Relativity development work, as necessary.
+ Coordinate data loads to the review tool with Ankura's processing team.
Production:
+ Assist with written collateral to support the production process, such as motions, orders, or proposals to courts and opposing counsel regarding the form of production.
+ Provide proactive guidance regarding format, strategy, and timelines for production of electronic data.
+ Work with client to develop production identification strategy.
Managerial Tasks:
+ Assist in the management of finances of each engagement including developing, documenting, and tracking project budgets, adjusting budgets as appropriate, communicating changes in budgets internally and to the client, and managing the revenue forecasting and invoicing process.
+ Review and discuss expectations, anticipated scope of work, and project timeline with client and Ankura's team.
+ Manage project close-out process including data return and database archival, ensuring that clients understand the implications of on-going data retention relative to their company's policies.
