To inspect and ensure the quality of layout and welds performed by the production staff. Certify that the final product is free of defects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform a dimensional and visual inspection of shop fabrication, which includes final paint inspections, weld preparations, and final welds. Responsible for fabricated materials conforming to drawings, shop standards, specifications, and applicable codes. Record and maintain in-process and final inspection records for quality assurance and production control. Identify drawing discrepancies with detailers. Coordinates with customers’ inspectors during the inspection phase to inform the foreman of defects on fabrication. Assists shop personnel with interpretation of drawings and specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of related experience. Completion of a verifiable vocational or training program may substitute for 1 year of experience

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints. Demonstrated knowledge of various methods of weld testing procedures. Knowledge of AWS and AISC codes applicable to steel fabrication and erection.

TYPE OF EQUIPMENT USED

  • Tape measure, weld gauges, leveler, square, and flashlight.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs and occasionally push and/or pull a maximum force of 100 ft-lb. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus. Close mental and visual applications are required to interpret drawings, layout, plan work, and weld. Good judgment in determining the best method and procedure to be followed. Able to work on jobs while applying safety rules at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement robust quality control plans and procedures.
  • Oversee product inspection, testing, and validation processes.
  • Lead and mentor the quality control team, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for non-conforming products and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949, APQP).
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve product quality.
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare quality reports for management and conduct internal audits.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or relevant field).
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in quality control/assurance within manufacturing.
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive quality systems and standards.
  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and problem-solving tools.
  • Experience with quality inspection equipment and metrology.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification is highly desirable.
