Job Title: Senior Production & Operational Improvement Consultant - Part-Time

Location: Ogden, Utah - On-site every other week

Duration: 4-6 months

About the Role:

Our client, a leading global supplier of spare parts to the automotive industry, is seeking a highly experienced senior consultant to support the factory/plant manager at their production site in Ogden, Utah. This role is part time with on-site presence every other week, providing strategic and operational guidance to drive continuous improvement initiatives across production, automation, and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the plant/factory manager, providing expert guidance on operational and production improvements.
• Support the implementation of improvement plans, including LEAN, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
• Analyze production processes and identify opportunities to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
• Mentor and collaborate with site leadership and operational teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Leverage extensive international experience to apply best practices from automotive and manufacturing industries.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• 20+ years of experience in production, operations, or manufacturing, ideally within the automotive or similar sectors.
• Strong expertise in LEAN, Six Sigma, and operational improvement methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience working in international environments with cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to influence leadership and drive change at all levels of an organization.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborative work with plant leadership and staff.

Job Description

Summary of Position:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the supervision, formulation, administration and coordination of industrial and manufacturing engineering projects, policies, processes, methods and procedures designed to improve operating performance, reduce waste and delays and otherwise promote cost reductions on a company-wide basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
• Incorporate activities that involve using time-study or standard data for a variety of machine, assembly and hand operations, production methods, equipment layout, material handling, and manpower, equipment and material utilization to improve operating performance.
• Determine root causes of all failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
• Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
• Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
• Troubleshoot new and existing product issues involving designs, materials, or processes.
• Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness.
• Train production personnel on new or existing methods.
• Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
• Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
• Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
• Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
• Investigate or resolve operational problems such as material use variances and bottlenecks.
• Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
• Use statistical data to evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards.
• Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
• Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
• Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
• Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
• Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.
• Assist with coordinating quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
• Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
• Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or 4 years equivalent experience.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

• Previous experience in an automotive manufacturing assembly environment required.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods.
• Tier 1 seating manufacturer environment preferred

Technical/ Computer Skills:

• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
• Must be proficient with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
• Experience with SAP is preferred
• Full working knowledge of APQP process, flowcharts, work instructions, and control plans.
• Must have design and drafting skills. Experience with AutoCAD or Draft Sight preferred.
