Physical Requirements:

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at McKay-Dee Hospital is a 32-bed level III unit in Ogden, Utah. Nursing staff work with an interdisciplinary team to provide care that ranges from routine observation of growing infants to the management of critically ill infants equal to or greater than 22 weeks gestational age. Skills include, lactation support, developmentally appropriate care, CPAP, conventional and high frequency ventilators, chest tubes, central lines, iv therapy,  delivery attendance with neonatal resuscitation. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1 for critical patients, 1:2 for intermediate care and 1:3 for convalescent care and may be adjusted per clinical judgement to provide excellent care to all our patients.  Nurses new to NICU start taking care of the less acute patients and increase in acuity as they develop new skills.

Shift: full time, 36 hours a week, night shift or 50/50 days and nights. 8 week self-scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred within 60 days of employment start.
  • Associate's degree in nursing is required; BSN required within 4 years of hire (The BSN requirement is mandatory as of 4/27/2025. Employees hired or promoted before this date will follow the minimum requirements at the time of their hire or promotion)
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers is required.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • One or more years of RN work experience
  • RN work experience caring for newborns

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN License in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance
  • Effective Communication Skills – Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Experience: RNs with less than 12 months of experience as an RN must complete their BSN within five years of their start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • One year of RN experience in Acute Care, Home Health, or Hospice settings
  • Experience in Wound Care, IV Therapy, or Medication Management

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
