The position requires on-site support located in **Palmdale, CA** where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.
**Principal Manufacturing Engineering job duties involve the following:**
+ Provide guidance to Engineering regarding design concepts to ensure the best manufacturing technique is being used to meet the Engineering design
+ Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during assembly
+ Define sequence of operations for product builds, investigate and initiate corrective actions and improvements that involve non-conforming product and identify improvement opportunities in areas that require producibility and affordability initiatives.
+ Provide liaison support for Engineering definition to influence low production costs for integrated assembly related to electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids and propulsion systems
Principal Manufacturing Engineers for Aeronautics Systems are expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems. They are problem solvers who have the ability to provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives. We seek Manufacturing Engineers that use a unique skill set that includes a hands-on approach and act as the technical representative voice for the Manufacturing organization.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of technical and/or engineering experience; Master's Degree with 3 years of engineering experience; or PhD with 0 years of experience
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
+ Proficient reviewing and interpreting Blueprints and 3-D models
+ Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
+ Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, clients, and vendors
+ Ability to work 1st shift "5:00am-3:30pm" or 2nd shift "4:12pm-2:42am" and any work schedule (times may vary)
+ Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Operate within a Model-Based Engineering environment using platforms such as 3DX (3DEXPERIENCE) and iBASEt Solumina to develop digital work instructions and manage process documentation.

Provide periodic off-shift support as needed to sustain production and ensure continuity of operations.

**Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineer 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Advanced Manufacturing Technology organization. This leadership role will be located in either Palmdale, CA, El Segundo, CA, or Melbourne, FL.**
The Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineer 2 will lead a team of Manufacturing Systems Engineers in defining, developing, implementing, and transitioning new and disruptive technology solutions to our programs to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
**Key Technical Responsibilities:**
+ Lead a team of engineers in the ideation, development and deployment of manufacturing concept and process solutions for production applications and advanced technologies, including, but not limited to, composites fabrication, assembly, automation, inspection, direct part manufacturing, LO technologies, and digital capabilities.
+ Knowledge and execution of Contractual Research & Development (CRAD) activities.
+ Work with Global Supply Chain and use Small Business experience and knowledge to act with speed to evolve and replace baseline technologies.
+ Identify and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure R&D contractual obligations (technical, schedule, and cost) are met and product quality is maintained.
+ Provide guidance regarding design concepts, TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques, and ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
+ Interface with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management.
**Key Functional Responsibilities:**
+ Conduct performance assessments, and regular conversations about employee development, communication, compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/ approval and other routine personnel issues.
+ Assess, prioritize and adjust staffing to current and projected program needs.
+ Facilitate engineering support, review and approval of Bid & Proposal (B&P) requests.
+ Support program gate reviews as the engineering review authority, and assist in resolution of program engineering challenges (technical, financial, and staffing).
+ Comprehend and analyze complex problems, develop solutions and coordinate across programs and functions for common efficiencies and operational gains.

**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Must have a Bachelor's Degree (STEM) AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production OR a Master's Degree (STEM) AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production.
+ Must have 2-3 years of prior management/leadership experience.
+ Must have an active DOD Secret Clearance and with the ability to obtain Special Program Access.
+ Experience working on early phases of projects, including proposals, white papers, and conceptual development.
+ Project/Program Management skills to scope and execute assigned work and manage project efforts (proposal creation, scheduling, budget tracking, and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Experience in generating requirements; specifically, the ability to turn vague customer needs or stakeholder inputs into requirements
+ Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic and fast paced work environment
+ Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Visio)
+ Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency
+ 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
+ Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of increasing production schedules and high delivery rates
+ Experience with any of the following:
+ Production assembly/fabrication including Digital Transformation, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Systems Integration, IIoT, RFID, and/or production manufacturing operations.
+ Hardware/software integration of manufacturing systems architecture, design & integration with engineering systems and software, including Siemens NX, TcE, CPLM, SAP, etc
+ Advanced networking capabilities
+ Knowledge of Cryptology
+ Working knowledge of classified information systems infrastructure
+ Working in a Research and Development environment.
+ Ability to use Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and concepts to define functions and develop functional and performance requirements.
+ Experience as Principal Investigator on government CRAD and/or Internal Research & Development programs
+ Experience working with IPTs, other stakeholders, and various customers such as Air Force and Navy
+ Technical writing capabilities
+ Ability to travel 10-15% of the time
Primary Level Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

This leadership role is located in Palmdale, CA but can be located in San Diego, CA or El Segundo, CA with travel expectations.**
The Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineering 3 will have the responsibility of providing organizational and technical leadership and direction across the Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP) portfolio. This position involves leading production approaches for intelligent manufacturing, flexible facilities, and low-cost high-rate manufacturing, which will include the following responsibilities:
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Drive the evolution of production facilities with integrated digital thread, artificial intelligence, automation, and flexible configurations.
+ Lead evaluation and implementation of enabling production technologies, including but not limited to composites fabrication, assembly, automation, inspection, direct part manufacturing, LO technologies, as well as digital capabilities.
+ Work with consultants, strategic partners, universities and technical consortiums to evaluate developing technologies/approaches for manufacturing air vehicles affordably and in high quantity.
+ Provide guidance regarding design concepts, TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and develop affordable manufacturing solutions.
+ Collaborate with all ACP teams to influence product definition and assembly strategy implementing Design for Manufacturing, or "designing what we build". Includes pushing for additive manufacturing, unitized composites, other emerging lower cost processes.
+ Solve technical challenges with creative solutions in fast-paced, resource limited manufacturing environments
+ Develop and refine manufacturing strategies for low-cost high-rate production for air vehicles, with a critical focus on safety, efficiency, cost, and quality at scale
+ Understand and integrate novel tooling, fabrication, and assembly solutions for production. Champion modular, flexible tooling and lean, highly repeatable or adaptable production processes.
+ Design production layouts/production factory to support flexible cell-based or continuous flow manufacturing. Collaborate with other emerging programs to evaluate multiple ACP product line potentially mixed with other product lines.
+ Create detailed ramp-up plans including labor, equipment, facilities, and supplier readiness. Develop full understanding of capital investment requirements and timing.
+ Develop manufacturing processes and digital strategies that provide detailed intuitive work instructions to mechanics in their work environment, reducing needs for training and ability to rapidly respond to production surge requirements. Develop hiring, staffing and training plan associated with the new techniques and integrate within operations functions and locations.
+ Establish and lead a strategic vision for scalable, cost-effective production aligned with business goals for rapid implementation. Develop comprehensive production solutions encompassing business development, digital thread, and data. Evaluate alternatives, create and execute roadmaps, and conduct gap analyses.
+ Champion deployment and adoption of low-cost high-rate manufacturing across global production, engineering, and operations teams.
+ Monitor industry trends, competitor advancements, and global manufacturing capabilities to build and maintain technological and cost advantage

**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Must have a Bachelor's Degree (STEM) AND 8 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production OR a Master's Degree (STEM) AND 6 years of related professional/military experience in aviation, systems engineering, aerospace or manufacturing/production.
+ Minimum 6 years of experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either a project lead, integrated program team lead or manufacturing manager
+ Minimum 6 years of demonstrated success leading teams and/or organizations to achieve goals
+ Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required) as well as the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special Access
+ Ability to travel 20-35% of the time
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Experience working with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), cross functional stakeholders, and various customers such as Air Force and Navy
+ Prior experience operating in a dynamic environment of early development, low rate initial production and transition to high delivery rates
+ Prior experience working in low-cost high-rate manufacturing environments, whether automotive or aerospace, is highly desired
+ Proposal experience, and experience in other early phases of program lifecycle
+ Strong background in technology research portfolio management and demonstrated advancement of TRL / MRL and familiarity with DoD MRL Deskbook and Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA) process.
+ Excellent risk identification and mitigation skillsets in the development of aerospace technologies
+ Experience in "Design for Manufacturing" methodologies
+ Experience developing flexible factories and driving rapid technology implementation
+ Experience developing and deploying artificial intelligence tools for production environments
+ Experience developing and deploying digital thread/twin, or other data integration and prescriptive tools
+ Experience developing and deploying automation
+ Experience with composites unitization, bonded composite assemblies and determinant assembly techniques.
Primary Level Salary Range: $187,000.00 - $280,600.00
