As a Shipfitter, your expertise in Flux Core Arc Welding will be put to the test as you perform with precision and efficiency on large fleet maritime vessels. Previous shipyard/welding experience is a plus as all candidates will need to successfully complete required shipfitting tests to meet our stringent quality standards.
**Additional shipfitting responsibilities include (but are not limited to):**
+ Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
+ Align and fit parts according to specifications.
+ Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units, following blueprints.
+ Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, cutting torches, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
+ Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
+ Tack-weld fitted parts together.
+ Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
+ Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
+ Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal. **What Do We Want to Know About You? We're looking for candidates who possess:**

+ 3-5+ years of experience in a custom build shop preferred.

Summary

Join a team that builds and maintains the vessels that keep America's armed forces moving. The International Services Support (ISS) team is currently looking for a Maritime Watercraft Mechanic SME. The selected candidate will perform corrective and preventative maintenance mechanical operation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and assessment in support of Army Watercraft tasks. This is a full-time position, located in Norfolk, VA.

What You Will Do

  • Providing field service representatives to perform minor equipment modification, installation of equipment and maintenance of SOF equipment at the Echelon II level and below.
    • The types of specialized equipment to be supported include but is not limited to: Combatant Craft variants (CCA, CCH, CCM), Special Operations Craft-Riverine (SOC-R), Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs), Maritime Combatant Craft Aerial Delivery System, SEAL Delivery Vehicle and dry deck shelter, ground mobility vehicles and other tactical vehicles. Various dive equipment and weapons that are standard issued to NSW operators are also considered equipment.
  • May train and provide instruction on the various equipment and/or platforms.
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance mechanical operation, troubleshooting, repair, and material assessment of all equipment and boat's equipment in accordance with OEM specifications.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact (POC) for problem resolution and liaison with Government.
  • Ensures contract deliverables are accurately and timely submitted.
  • Make decisions relating to Expeditionary Equipment Readiness Services Support program.


What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access.
  • Must have experience in the operation, maintenance, repair, or inspection of marine propulsion and/or power generation systems.
  • Must have experience as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified mechanic.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Your Impact

  • Take responsible charge for supervising the work of staff engineers, supervising task leads, and self-perform calculations and prepare drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare technical studies and reports and guide/review the work of staff engineers.
  • Perform oversight of calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications and reports.
  • Perform quality assurance checks. Manage/ lead projects, tasks and staff for marine facility projects, including various types of cargo terminals (e.g. container, bulk, break-bulk), federal facilities (homeporting piers and shipyards), and clients (port authorities, DoD, private terminals, public agencies, etc.).
  • Perform multiple discipline management and coordination of internal and external teams comprised of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, and architecture.
  • Prepare alternatives analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
  • Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
  • Perform business development and general marketing activities. Maintain positive client relationships. Participate in preparation of technical proposals, presentations, negotiations, and staff estimates.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSPs Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior marine, port, and coastal design experience.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Aptitude in maritime related codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense (UFC, UFGC) criteria.
  • Competency or ability to supervise staff in state-of-the-art computer programs.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSPs health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

You will own the holistic assessment of our autonomous systems, ensuring they are performant, reliable and safe.

At EpiSci, you will:

  • Design, implement, and own the comprehensive T&E strategy for our entire fleet of autonomous surface vehicles, from concept and simulation to full-scale, multi-vessel operational deployment
  • Develop and own the complete Verification and Validation (V&V) workflow for our product line, establishing the processes, metrics, tools, and infrastructure that define mission readiness
  • Synthesize operational risk management frameworks and communicate potential risk to the senior Program Manager ahead of at-sea sorties
  • Define and own Operational Design Domain (ODD)-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for autonomy, focusing on quantifiable metrics for safety, capability, and reliability in complex maritime environments
  • Lead the strategic balance between simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL), closed-course, and open-ocean testing to maximize learning velocity while ensuring absolute safety and efficiency
  • Author and maintain master test plans, strategic planning documents, and provide input to the EpiSci Program Managers for Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documentation (e.g., System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), System Requirements Specification (SRS)) for government programs

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Ocean, Systems), Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in systems engineering, integration, and/or test and evaluation of complex electro-mechanical or software-intensive systems, with at least 5 years in a formal leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience leading the test and evaluation of autonomous or unmanned systems in a relevant domain (air, ground, or sea)
  • Experience with using agile program management tooling such as Atlassian Jira
  • Exemplary critical writing and analysis skills, able to draft comprehensive after action reports
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, including significant periods spent offshore on vessels of various sizes in potentially harsh conditions
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance

  • Prior military experience in a relevant operational or technical field (e.g., Navy EOD, Naval Special Warfare (NSW), billets related to operations of robotic and autonomous systems (RAS); is a significant advantage

The Senior Maritime Consultant will maintain an overall knowledge of maritime products and services offered by ABSG Consulting, and support both internal and external clients. This includes providing technical expertise as a project manager and to project team members, encompassing the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of projects.

What You Will Do:
  • Perform a variety of vessel surveys, including examining the hull, machinery, electrical systems, navigation equipment, safety features, and overall structural integrity and mechanical condition of the vessel or offshore facility. In the event of a marine or offshore incident, perform damage assessments and investigate the incident.
  • The consultant will conduct safety management system audits in accordance with a national or international standard. Conduct a gap analysis for clients to ensure they meet national or international standards and update and align SMS procedures with operational needs.
  • Project Management experience in managing marine and offshore engineering projects, including budget, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Familiar with international maritime and offshore regulations, such as those set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Understanding safety and environmental regulations is important.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine and offshore engineering principles, survey requirements, and practices. This includes hull, propulsion systems, marine structures, electrical systems, and marine operations.
  • The consultant is expected to identify and resolve complex technical and operational challenges. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for evaluating and proposing practical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively conveying complex technical concepts to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • The ability to prepare detailed reports, feasibility studies, and technical documentation.
What You Will Need:

Education and Experience
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in work experience and training (Marine or Mechanical Engineering preferred).
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in marine surveys, risk management, audits to ISM, Port State Control exams, and other safety management systems, and mechanical integrity (preferred)
  • Experience in the marine and offshore market.
  • Ability to promote maritime and offshore-related services.
  • Self-driven and motivated, desire to grow within the company.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%.

Reports to a Manager or Director.

Salary: $115,000 - $130,000
