By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st centurys most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Andurils family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
About The Team
The Maritime Application Team sits at the tip of the spear, transforming core platform technology into mission-winning capabilities that deliver a decisive operational edge at sea. We are a specialized software team embedded within the core Lattice Platform, uniquely positioned to accelerate the delivery of mission-critical capabilities for maritime platforms such as the Dive-LD, Dive-XL, Copperhead, and Seabed Sentry. Our role is to take powerful platform primitiveslike data management, mission autonomy, simulation, auth, and orchestrationand rapidly forge them into integrated, robust applications for autonomous maritime systems. We act as an incubator for future platform features, ensuring that the solutions we build for today's contracts are the foundation for tomorrow's platform-wide advancements. If you are passionate about building high-impact software that directly supports operators in the field while shaping a next-generation platform, this is your team.
About The Job
As the Engineering Manager for the Maritime Application Team, you will lead a high-performing team at the intersection of core platform development and mission-critical business delivery. Your role is to be a leader of leaders, building the systems and culture to enable your team to execute with velocity and quality. You will partner closely with the teams Tech Lead and other technical leaders to navigate this unique dual mandate: delivering specialized, reliable software that wins contracts for our Maritime Division, while simultaneously contributing hardened, reusable capabilities back to the Lattice Platform. This is a leadership position that requires a blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and exceptional people management skills to foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and execution.
A Note on This Role: This is an Engineering Manager role, not a Tech Lead Manager role. We believe in empowering our senior engineers to own technical architecture. Your primary focus will be on leading and growing the team, optimizing for execution, and managing stakeholder relationships, while your senior engineers and the teams Tech Lead will be empowered to lead the technical design and implementation.
What You'll Do

- Partner with Product Management in the Maritime Division, Software Platform, and within the Maritime Application Team to define the team's roadmap, prioritize work, and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Drive the execution and delivery of complex software projects, ensuring your team has the context, resources, and support needed to succeed.
- Manage relationships and communication with stakeholders across the Software Platform and the Maritime Division, acting as the primary interface for your team.
- Foster a culture of high technical standards by facilitating rigorous design reviews and ensuring the team has clear processes for delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems.
- Partner with the teams Principal Engineers and Tech Leads to drive architectural decisions to ensure the teams technical roadmap aligns with product goals.
- Devote significant time to the career growth of your engineers, identifying opportunities for development, providing coaching, and delivering thoughtful performance feedback.
- Develop and refine the team's operating model, balancing the need for rapid, business-focused iteration with the long-term health of the platform.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent to scale the team's capabilities.
- 3+ years of experience as a software engineering manager.
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong technical background in distributed systems, API design, or full-stack application development.
- Proven ability to lead a team to successfully ship and maintain complex software products.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate a matrixed organization and build consensus.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and a track record of improving team processes.
- A passion for mentoring engineers and building strong, inclusive teams.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance.
- Location: In office in Boston, Seattle, or Costa Mesa
- Experience managing teams that work closely with a specific business unit or customer.
- Familiarity with platform-as-a-service or product platform company models.
- Experience leading teams that build software for robotics, autonomous systems, or defense applications.
- A strong understanding of modern DevOps practices and CI/CD.
- Experience hiring and scaling an engineering team in a fast-paced environment.
