Position Overview

LaAmistad seeks teachers and individuals passionate about K-5 education to serve and support our afterschool programming as aclassroomteacher. This team member will support students andthe Site Director by delivering math and
reading instruction and assisting with daily program operations. This is an ideal role for a candidate with strong instructional knowledge, organizational skills, and a love of children and teaching.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Afterschool Site Director to:
  • Deliver academic support focused on reading and math tailored to students individual needs.
  • Set up and maintain afterschool program activities, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Administer reading and math assessments accurately and efficiently to monitor student progress.
  • Analyze assessment data and prepare clear reports to guide instructional decisions and communicate outcomes.
  • Provide grade-level appropriate resources and activities to support targeted learning goals.
  • Assist and coordinate with volunteers to maximize program effectiveness and student engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, scheduling, and record-keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with the afterschool team, students, families, and school staff, to support student success.
  • Analyze student data to enhance learning outcomes and guide instructions.
  • Assist in preparing, teaching, and evaluating assigned instructional content.
  • Guide staff and volunteers
    to recognize and address diverse learner needs.
  • Use best practices in math, reading, and writing instruction.
  • Support implementation of balanced literacy strategies and assessments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to staff and volunteers on student needs.
  • Model and lead classroom management (student behavior & engagement).
  • Support the Site Director with on-site programming needs.
  • Prepare supplemental materials to help students practice skills.
  • Ensure student engagement with learning and volunteers.
  • Model instructional resources for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure academic resources are appropriate for student needs.
  • Collaborate with Site Director and Parent Liaison on planning.
  • Attend mandatory professional development (quarterly) and team meetings (monthly).
  • Fill in as Site Director as needed.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher (preferably in Education or a related field)
  • Minimum 1-3 years of formal or informal teaching experience with children grades K-5.
  • Strong knowledge of math and reading strategies.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable managing and working in a room with a large group of elementary students.
  • Ability to administer and interpret academic assessments.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite (including Chromebooks).

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Possess or qualify for a Georgia Teaching License.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and multicultural settings.
  • Experience coaching others in instructional strategies (math and reading).

  • Candidates over age 25 who are willing to drive a small bus/van to transport up to 14 students to afterschool, in addition to filling this role, will receive an additional 2/hour above their determined pay rate.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, walk, and carry/lift items up to 30 lbs.
  • Navigate campuses quickly, including climbing stairs and pushing rolling carts.
  • Adequate hearing and vision to fulfill job responsibilities.

Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The CSU Early Childhood Center ( ECC ) is a laboratory school with a three-fold mission to a) offer a developmentally appropriate, Reggio Emilia-inspired learning environment for young children; b) prepare university students for careers in the field of early childhood; and c) provide opportunities for research related to children, families, and early childhood education. Each year, the ECC serves approximately 150 children (ages 6 weeks to 6 years), while simultaneously training students from various departments across the CSU campus including Food Science and Human Nutrition; Human Development and Family Studies; Occupational Therapy; the School of Education; and the School of Theatre, Music and Dance.
Housed within CSU's Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the ECC has been serving children and families in the Fort Collins community since 1929 and is dedicated to working in partnership with families to ensure a quality educational experience for children. We are a Reggio Emilia-inspired program, providing an emergent approach to educating children that is play-based and child-directed.
Position Summary
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining non-tenure track teaching positions within the CSU Early Childhood Center working with young children between the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years. ECC teachers adhere to the mission, policies, and procedures of the ECC as well as State of Colorado licensing requirements and NAEYC accreditation standards while implementing a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach.
These are full-time,12-month appointments with competitive salaries and full benefits including health insurance, paid vacations, and 9 free credits of CSU tuition per year. The role of a Classroom Teacher is to work with a Mentor Teacher to provide management of the classroom and guidance of Assistant Teachers. The role of a Mentor Teacher is to provide management of the classroom, supervision of intern and practicum students, and guidance of Classroom Teachers and Assistant Teachers.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline OR, will have a bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline by the hire date OR, a bachelor's degree in any field plus two years of related experience, OR, have an Early Childhood Teacher ( ECT ) qualification, with a minimum of 1 year experience in a Reggio Emilia Inspired Early Childhood Setting.

Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Preferred qualifications for a Classroom Teacher include experience in a Reggio Emilia-inspired Early Childhood setting.

With support from the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher helps plan and participates in classroom, playground, and field trip activities. These activities are designed to foster or enhance all areas of a child’s development.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential
  • One-year experience working with children and families preferred
  • Personal qualifications: Emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities
  • Knowledge and experience with the basic principles of child development
  • Strong knowledge of GSRP Performance Standards and Michigan Childcare Licensing Regulations
  • Effective in an environment of cultural diversity; comfortable in a collaborative, team based work setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Follow chain of command for all conflict situations
  • Development, 120 hours of classroom experience, DHHS Clearance, Medical Clearance, Finger print, CPR and First Aid Cards, and Willingness to complete/update professional development hours that adhere with STATE Licensing Monday-Friday weekly. ABLCCC responding to COVID-19 by not allowing any parents to enter the building and there is a temperature check and a CDC questionnaire every morning for staff and children.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain a clean safe, healthy, and developmentally focused learning environment
  • Supervise and monitor children at all times and respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations as they occur
  • Implement active supervision health and safety practices that ensure children are kept safe at all times set by grantee

    Job Title: GSRP Associate Teacher

    Major Functions/Responsibilities: Communicate and interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully. Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations. Be attentive, flexible and supportive of children, Assist teacher, caregivers and families. Practice positive discipline techniques at all times.

    · Meet and greet children and families

    · Set up equipment and assist in organizing materials for classroom instruction

    · Prepare Monthly reports COR (i.e volunteer services, newsletter, advisory meetings etc.)

    · Attend all city-wide in service activities and trainings (on-site and off -site) webinar and sessions related to your job description 30 hours training in school year.

    · Record anecdotal notes on students and enter into Online Cor;

    · Assist and accompany teacher with two Home Visits for the School Year

    · Complete Cor by due dates for review

    · Assist and accompany teacher with two Parent Teacher Conferences

    · Attend Advisory Board Meeting monthly

    · Maintain accurate files for all children in attendance

    · Assist with Lead Teacher lesson plans are written out daily

    · Twice a school year do a ASQ on your children with Lead teacher

    · Encourage children in educational activities, i.e singing, dancing and other reasonable physical activities,

    · Recruit parents for our program verbally, flyers, set-ups and etc.

    · Assist with classroom upkeep and management

    · Work with small groups of students or individuals, throughout daily schedule-under the teacher’s direction;

    · Prepare classroom teaching materials and assist in classroom instruction-under the teacher’s instruction

    · Plan Moving Forward Ceremony at the end of school year.

    · Attend all Field Trips

    · Assist with, and participate in Family style meal service with your children

    · Record the daily meal count at the point of service

    · Assist with children with their coats/boots, arrival and during dismissal;

    · Communicate and adhere to all Licensing Rules, ECS, Wayne Resa, Program Director and MDE

    · Assist with your Lead teacher making all phone calls to your parents for emergency, absent, and any issues or concerns for your children.

    · Assist with Lead Teacher with your classroom monthly Newsletter for your classroom or any update information .

    · Maintain a safe, sanitary and clean environment, assist in keeping the room clean at all times.

    Curriculum: High Scope curriculum will be implement that would include Math, Science, Writing, Reading, Small and Large Gross Motor skills using materials and activities on a daily basis. Demonstrate respect for diversity, independence and creativity. You will have to document children’s milestones in COR.

    Faculty/Parent Interactions: Acknowledge and respond to all parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous and professional matter. Invite input on child’s development and care. Communicate daily including conferences, events and meetings.

    Health/Safety/ Nutrition: Supervise children, following all safety and health rules and knowing the number of children in group at all times. Keep your area safe, organized and accessible to children.

    Teamwork: Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect. Participate in classroom and center responsibilities.

    Physical Demands: Follow State, Federal, MDE, Wayne RESA, ECS and Above and Beyond Learning Ctr. guidelines. Ensure children’s safety at all times. Demonstrate full range of motion. Need to be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Supervise and interact with children outdoors. Need to be able to respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies. Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements. inside and outside the building

    Education Requirements: . Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development or Preschool CDA.

    Requirements: FIA Clearance, I-Chat Clearance, TB test and Medical Clearance and maintain 30 hours of training yearly. Attend early childhood trainings, professional development, and training workshops.
