The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Administration, has a full-time vacancy for a Master Electrician.

Summary:

Performs skilled installation, preventative maintenance, repair and modification of electrical systems (e.g., building automation and energy management systems) and equipment in a wide variety of settings at the level of a master level electrician and conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities and equipment.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Education/Experience:

Equivalent combination of 7 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in electrical studies, electrical technology or electrical work.

License/Certification:

1. NH Master Electrician License

2. Valid driver's license

Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Considerable knowledge of standard practices, tools, materials and equipment of electrical trade.

2. Considerable knowledge of the provisions of the national and state electrical codes, and of applicable county rules and regulations. Ability to read, understand and interpret to others complex wiring diagrams, plans and blueprints and technical specifications.

3. Ability to test and detect faulty materials, wiring and equipment; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.

4. Understanding of the potential occupational hazards connected with electrical work and the safety standards and practices which should be applied.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates, directs, and trains a variety of tradesmen to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures for new and/or renovation projects, and plans modifications or additions to fire and smoke detection, sprinkler, and electrical systems.

Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes and troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems applying knowledge of electrical schematics and blueprints.

Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes, to effectively execute projects in collaboration with architects, engineers, general contractors, and other tradespeople.

Disassembles, repairs, reassembles, or replaces defective electrical equipment such as plugs, switches, wiring, receptacles, controls, breakers, panels, tools, appliances, and other electrical devices using appropriate tools, testing equipment, and service manuals.

Regularly inspects and evaluates electrical and electronic equipment, following recommended maintenance schedules, to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely and advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, or replaces motors, controls, variable frequency drives, lighting control systems, motorized shade systems, elevators, laundry, kitchen, and other electrical equipment.

Coordinates and inspects work completed by electrical contractors working within the Department. Ensures all electrical work is completed and spaces are left in accordance with all fire, safety, and electrical codes.

Provides preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.

Performs business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment and ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Job Summary: The Master Electrician leads the installation, operation, and maintenance of advanced electrical systems supporting the Alabama Mobility & Power (AMP) Center research and workforce development mission. Required Minimum Qualifications: Licensed master electrician and six (6) years of experience in electrical installation and maintenance.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Proven ability to support projects from field installation to commissioning. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience training or mentoring apprentices or students. Demonstrated expertise with one or more of the following: microgrids, renewable integration, EV charging, battery energy storage.   • Provide labor partner and Project Excellence team member technical support (phone and on-site as appropriate) with the goal of ensuring a quality install can be achieved at all sites as economically as possible.
  • Provide actionable summary site visit feedback (e.g., LP performance, installation challenges, technical issues, logistical issues, etc.) to support the goal of process and job improvements.

  • Maintain continuing education credits.
  • Review and report to Project Excellence team any safety violations or concerns identified during site visits.

Experience Required:

  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • 5+ years of in-field electrical installation experience.
  • 3+ years of field supervisory experience.
  • Master Electrician license or Journeyman on track to get Master Electrician license within 1 year of date of hire.
  • Knowledge of code required to pass trade exams (NEC, IBC, 1926 OSHA, NFPA 70E, Etc.).
  • Experience with customer service, quotation or sales experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Installation:

  2. Maintenance & Repair:

    • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
    • Diagnose electrical problems, such as malfunctioning circuit breakers, outlets, or wiring.
    • Repair or replace defective components, including wiring, switches, transformers, and outlets.
  3. Safety Compliance:

    • Follow safety procedures and standards to protect yourself and others from electrical hazards.
    • Ensure electrical systems meet safety regulations, including proper grounding, insulation, and circuit protection.
    • Keep work areas organized and free from safety hazards.
  4. Troubleshooting:

    • Troubleshoot electrical issues by analyzing blueprints, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
    • Use specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve problems.
    • Offer solutions to prevent recurring issues, ensuring long-term reliability.
  5. Customer Interaction:

    • Provide excellent customer service by explaining repairs, installations, or upgrades clearly to clients.
    • Advise clients on energy-saving strategies, system improvements, and new technologies.
  6. Documentation & Reporting:

    • Complete reports, work orders, and other documentation for jobs performed.
    • Keep track of inventory, tools, and materials required for projects.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and electrical codes.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training program.
    • Valid electrician’s license
  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and circuits.
    • Knowledge of and local electrical codes.
    • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
    • Familiarity with electrical testing tools and equipment.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Good communication skills for working with clients and teams.
    • Physical stamina to perform manual labor and work in various environments.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting heavy tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces, climb ladders, and work at heights.

  • Performs electrical work for HVAC systems and some plumbing systems.
