**Key Responsibilities:**

**Scope of Position**

- Execute standard laboratory testing regimens, run analytical equipment, and work alongside senior level engineers in development of physical process simulations to extend knowledge base and support/disprove hypotheses.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure optimal turnaround time for testing and experimentation to meet critical project milestones.
- Work with external suppliers to identify best material solutions for project application.
- Share experimental findings with colleagues ranging from technical peers to engineering leadership providing information which enables data-based decisions driving project success.
- Maintain high quality engineering principles, including extensive use of statistics, structured problem-solving methods such as KT, DOE, and DMAIC six sigma tools.
- Document all project findings in internal, structured reports and presentations.

**Experiences/Education - Required**
+ BS inCeramic, Metallurgical, Polymer Engineering or Materials Science (MS or PhD will also be considered for this position) plus 0-5 years of experience.
+ Relevant coursework related to ceramic or metal materials for glass manufacturing or polymer materials for extruded and/or injection molded products.

Amentum is seeking an experienced **Materials Engineer** to support a future shipbuilding acquisition program management services contract for US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Team Submarine (TEAM SUB).
**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Extracts, develops, processes and tests materials used to create a variety of products. Works with metals, ceramics, plastics, semi-conductors, and composites to create new materials that meet certain mechanical, electrical, chemical, and other requirements.
+ Evaluates technical and economic factors, recommending engineering and manufacturing actions for attainment of design objectives of process or product by applying knowledge of material science and related technologies.
+ Reviews plans for new product and factors, such as strength, weight, and cost, to submit material selection recommendations ensuring attainment of design objectives.
+ Plans and implements laboratory operations to develop material and fabrication procedures for new materials to fulfill product cost and performance standards.
+ Confers with producers of materials, such as metals, ceramics, or polymers, during investigation and evaluation of materials suitable for specific product applications.
+ Reviews product failure data and interprets laboratory tests and analyses to establish or rule out material and process causes.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.
+ Minimum 5 years of U.S Navy engineering experience
**Desired Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's level degree in any technical discipline.
+ 10 years experience with DOD ACAT ID Acquisition Programs
+ 5 years Navy experience working with 1) Material Sciences or 2) Welding / Non Destructive Testing (NDT)

**Job Qualifications:**
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD.
