Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the maternity services department including labor, delivery, postpartum, triage and NICU. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/charge nurse/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patients clinical condition. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all Maternity Care departments. Primarily caring for the following patients: antepartum, laboring, delivery, cesarean, (including circulating), recovery, postpartum mother/baby care, newborn admissions, and triage. Ability to float to NICU as needed, taking care of NICU patients assigned appropriately. Is flexible and able to change assignments easily as admissions and deliveries occur.
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: antepartum, postpartum, and newborns. li >Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratorys and the resident care units policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret results of waived tests; take appropriate action on waived tests results.
- Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients age.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
- Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.

The Unit Coordinator/Secretary through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other Hospital departments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
1. Patient Experience
a. Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions, answers questions or finds someone who can.
b. Acts as resource person to nursing staff, other clinicians and support services.

b. Keeps bed track and PCS systems up to date.

**Responsibilities**
As a CNM in Maternity Services with Ascension, your primary role will be managing induction/labor patients on the labor floor. You will ensure that inductions are started in a timely manner and managed appropriately. You will also manage labor patients and support our physician residents, as well as our private practice OBs. You will also see and evaluate patients in the OB Triage setting for things to include: labor, preterm labor, rupture of membranes, or any complications of pregnancy over 20 weeks of gestation, illness, injury, etc. You will be in charge of triaging patients based on acuity and greatest need and will be supported by the on-call physician for the patients' private practice or the team of OB residents. You will not be responsible for OB Triage and labor floor management at the same time due to the busyness of the unit. You will also cover postpartum rounding on low-risk patients, alongside the physician residents. You will be a part of teaching the Dell Seton interns how to adequately triage a patient, quickly and efficiently, as one of their first-year resident education goals. You will also assist in teaching interns how to deliver laboring patients.

+ Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
+ Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
+ Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
+ Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy
