Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

We have an opening for an Estimator in our Sioux Falls, SD office. The primary job of the Estimator is developing and maintaining relationships with Sub-Contractor / Suppliers, creating, and analyzing cost estimates and project budgets, managing project costs, communicating effectively with both internal and external project team members.

Hours and Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm in office

Reports To: VP of Construction

Essential Duties:

1. Collaborate with project team on the start-to-finish cycle of new and existing projects ensuring that estimates are completed within the designated time frame, budget and scope

2. Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to determine project costs and produce detailed estimates

3. Follow up with contractors on bids, providing feedback focusing on maintaining collaborative relationship, competitive pricing and material availability

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

1. 2-year degree in Construction Management, Accounting, or applicable area

2. 5+ years of estimating, procurement management experience

3. 2 years of experience as a Project Manager in Commercial Construction ()

4. In-depth knowledge of commercial construction industry methods, practices, materials, and tools involved in construction

5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret project documents

6. Self-directed leader with excellent organizational, communication and project management skills, effectively and efficiently managing multiple project bids simultaneously

Job Description

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for:
  • Responsible for preparing complete, accurate estimates for all contract and delivery method types.
  • Responsible for the review and final approval of bids/budgets prepared by assigned estimators.
  • Performs constructability reviews with client and architect.
  • Responsible for the preparation of preliminary estimates and studies during preconstruction, and monitoring design development cost trends to detect over-runs and potential problem areas. Participates in the value engineering process.
  • Participation in the preparation of construction schedule for estimating purposes; requests and discusses staffing requirements, and logistics plan with Project Executive, Project Manager, and Vice President of Construction.
  • Able to work on multiple projects as well as manage and support other estimators.
  • Fosters strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Supports Business Development in proposal presentations, and aids in building Client and Architect/Engineer relationships.
  • Assists Project Manager and Project Executive in evaluating, analyzing, and negotiating subcontractor proposals with the completion of thorough bid leveling documentation.
  • Manages the effective standardization, organization, preparation, and proper distribution/submission of preconstruction solicitations, qualification submissions, company information, and other preconstruction-related correspondence and reports.
  • Works with the Project Executive to identify all project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinates with other internal resources in support of exercising the aforementioned responsibilities, recognizing the importance of utilizing Company depth of skills, and development of others.
  • Actively participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
  • Participates in evaluating, hiring, and managing estimating staff assigned.
  • Be a coach and mentor to the other Associates within the organization, and especially with the estimating team.
  • Operates with the highest level of detail and embodies Marker's core values in all aspects of the work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Successful Applicant

The Senior Estimator will have:
  • Experience winning commercial construction projects $10M+
  • Four (4) year college degree in engineering, construction management or similar preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of vertical building experience, with at least 5 years of service dedicated to estimating.
  • Experience using the following systems: Planswift, Procore, Primavera P6, and Building Connected
  • Advanced knowledge in Sage 300 estimating software.
  • Proficient in Office 365.

Responsibilities

· Develop Estimating Processes: Lead and develop team and processes for ensuring all project estimates are accurate, thorough, and completed on time.

· Comprehensive Project Analysis: Review project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to determine project scope, labor, materials, and equipment requirements.

· Precise Cost Estimation: Utilize industry-standard estimating software to generate accurate cost breakdowns, factoring in labor rates, material costs, and potential contingencies.

· Bid Development: Prepare and present detailed bid proposals to internal stakeholders, clients, including pricing, project timelines, and scope of work.

· Market Analysis and Research: Monitor and analyze industry trends, market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive and profitable project pricing.

· Client and Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with clients, project managers, and sales teams to understand project requirements, address concerns, and maintain strong business relationships.

· Cross-Department Collaboration: Act as a liaison between the estimating team and other departments, such as project management, procurement, and construction, to ensure alignment on project scopes, budgets, and timelines.

· Mentor and manage Estimators as assigned.

Qualifications

5+ year’s construction estimating experience; Experience with industrial & commercial construction; Experience in conceptual estimating and design build a must; B.S. in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, preferred; Strong business communication and leadership skills; Supervisory Experience; Understanding of the influence of market conditions on pricing; Experience with estimating software such as Builder Trend, OPC, Procore;
