**What you'll need to succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice at XPO**

What you'll do on a typical day:
+ Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer, DOT, and company schedules
+ Apply knowledge and work by DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations, as required
+ Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers
+ Repair or rebuild equipment systems
+ Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
+ Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather
+ Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
+ Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
+ Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
+ Interact with operations and shop management
Mechanic Apprentices are required to:
+ Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.

Role Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship is a 2-year program in which the candidate will participate in weekly training sessions and complete periodic assessments, ultimately leading to a training certificate and the skills needed to work as a diesel mechanic. The Diesel Mechanic Apprentice will assist in the inspection, and tear down of school buses and medium duty trucks including diesel engines and all parts. Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in weekly training sessions to learn safety, tool and equipment procedures.
- Assist with shop work as directed by the Lead Mechanic. This includes the removal of parts from medium duty trucks and buses for resale. Requirements include physical strength, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn proper removal techniques and procedures.
- Assist with the cleaning and storage of used parts.
- Assist with organizing, recycling and scrapping of materials including steel, copper, batteries, aluminum, rubber, and any other related materials. This requires a willingness to learn how to identify and organize materials by type/grade.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Lead Mechanic. These may include organizing the warehouse, delivering parts, performing general maintenance, shop cleaning, etc.
- Assist with the maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This will include medium duty trucks/buses, semi, flatbed, front end loader, forklifts, skid loader, and other related equipment.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license required.
