Job Description
Body Exterior Materials Engineering Position. Manage materials used in automotive body exterior installed assemblies or systems, with specific depth of materials knowledge used in underbody shield systems, antennas, pick-up box trim, cowl vent grille/leafscreen, rear exterior lighting, and other body exterior components. Understanding of compatibility of basic materials associated with secondary operations such as painting, rubber bonding, electroplating, etc. Work cross-functionally with STA, engineering, Research, Laboratory, and Design. Support root cause analysis with materials expertise for issue resolution.
**What you'll do.**
+ Provide root cause analysis, materials, and process expertise to support resolution for DV/PV, launch, manufacturing, and field issues. Manage materials engineering foundation documents/update for prevent recurrence.
+ Partner with core functions to develop/update test methods for improved field correlation and prevent recurrence. Support manufacturing site assessments, process development and issue resolution.
+ Partner with Raw Materials Purchasing on Material Buy Programs.
+ Support material cost reduction initiatives.

This role will oversee the strategic planning and execution of product development, ensuring the creation of groundbreaking vehicles that meet and exceed customer expectations while aligning with industry trends and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a long-term product development strategy, integrating market research, customer feedback, and competitive analysis.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams through all phases of product development, including concept design, engineering validation, and production launch.
- Drive adoption of industry-leading tools and software such as CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar CAD/CAE platforms, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in design and engineering processes.
- Oversee the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), electric powertrains, and connected vehicle platforms into product offerings.
- Collaborate with global manufacturing, supply chain, and marketing teams to ensure seamless product integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with federal and international regulatory requirements, including FMVSS, EPA, CARB, and Euro NCAP standards.
- Establish KPIs and monitor project performance, ensuring products are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality expectations.
- Foster innovation by identifying and evaluating emerging technologies, materials, and methodologies in collaboration with R&D teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field; Masters degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in automotive product development, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role at a major OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing complete vehicle development lifecycles, including platform architecture, system integration, and homologation.
- Strong proficiency with automotive software tools and platforms, including CAD/CAE (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks), PLM (e.g., Teamcenter or Windchill), and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS).
- Proven track record of launching successful products that align with market demands and meet stringent quality standards.
- Extensive knowledge of automotive technologies, including hybrid and electric vehicle systems, lightweight materials, and advanced safety features.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and manage diverse, global teams.
