The Mechanical Testing Technician is responsible for collaborating with all other Quality functions, providing resources and assistance and ensuring the consistent flow of product through the mechanical testing work center.
Job Duties amp; Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical testing evaluations to determine the mechanical properties of metallurgical samples
- Document lab results in Bluestreak, Midwest Metallurgical Laboratories (MML) in-house operating system
- Assist the machine shop with sample preparation
- Perform various other metallurgical evaluations including but not limited to tensile, impact, hardness and bend testing
- Section and prepare samples for evaluation
- Coordinate the outsourcing of parts that need a third-party evaluation
- Perform micro hardness testing
- Document and interpret photographs of sample microstructures

MST-8 is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct in situ SEM/TEM mechanical and microstructural characterization of irradiated materials. Techniques will include in situ SEM small-scale testing (nanoindentation, micropillar, and microtensile), in situ TEM mechanical testing (in situ TEM straining), conventional diffraction contrast (S/TEM), EBSD, and high-resolution TEM (HR-TEM) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In situ TEM irradiation, in situ triple-beam irradiation, and other irradiation techniques may be conducted at external user facilities. The position will be awarded to the candidate demonstrating exceptional talent with a successful collaborative and scientific track record.
