The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting physicians in an office setting, ensuring efficient patient care and support.
Responsibilities
+ Greet and escort patients to exam rooms following rooming standards.
+ Set up exam rooms and interview patients, measuring vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and record information on patients' charts.
+ Instruct patients on preparation for tests and procedures.
+ Record laboratory, x-ray, ECG results, and other pertinent medical data in patients' charts.
+ Handle incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring the physician sees all necessary information.
+ Clean and stock exam rooms, including monthly instrument cleaning, sterilization of instruments, and refilling of supplies as needed.
+ Handle patient telephone calls as directed by the Triage Nurse.
+ Screen patient telephone calls to physicians and relay advice, information, and instructions from the physician.
+ Call in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies under physician direction.
+ Schedule special appointments such as referrals, surgeries, x-ray, and lab.
+ Assess and schedule appointments for patients.
+ Speak to callers, patients, physicians, and other staff in a polite, courteous, and understandable manner that reflects a commitment to high-quality customer service.
+ Abstract medical information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Pay and Benefits

**Responsibilities**
Collect and process blood specimens for testing and perform multiple clerical and processing functions.
+ Set up instruments. Maintain, clean, and sterilize equipment and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
+ Receive, centrifuge, accession, process and transport specimens. Verify all related records. May draw and collect blood samples according to policy.
+ Order add-on tests, work pending lists, and resolve duplicate orders.
+ Perform clerical duties which may include answering phones, reviewing EKGs, collecting patient demographic data for patient registration, ordering tests, reviewing Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN), data entry and filing.
**Requirements**
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
+ BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
+ Certification specializing in Phlebotomy credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.
+ Phlebotomy Tech preferred.
+ Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.
+ Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred.
+ Tech credentialed from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians preferred. All issuing authorities accepted.
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
+ Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
**Additional Preferences**
**Pediatric patients preferred.**
