The Volunteer LPN, Medical Assistant/EMT supports the patients, nurses and providers of the Clinic by escorting patients throughout the Clinic - to the exam room or the lab - and assisting nurses and providers in recording vital signs, cleaning exam room after patient use, and stocking supplies in exam rooms. Patient care responsibilities are defined as those skills for which they have been trained for and/or direction of a medical director who is authorized to independently diagnose and treat.

Qualifications: LPN's, certified MA’s, and EMT’s with one year of direct patient care experience can apply for this job. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed. Strong organizational, problem solving and decision- making skills are preferred. Must like to work in a fast-paced team environment and be flexible with tasks. This volunteer needs to have compassionate listening skills. Experience working with underserved populations is helpful.

Scope of Practice at CVIM:

  • Room patients
  • Take vital signs and record on Golden Ticket with appropriate use of medical terminology, abbreviations and correct spelling, or report them to the nurse while the nurse records them in the EHR
  • Perform pulse oximetry
  • Prepare the patient for exam, as requested by the nurse
  • Serve as a communication liason between staff members as directed by a nurse regarding patient care (i.e., labs, medical imaging, referrals and follow up appointments). The MA may not communicate with patient directly regarding these matters.
  • Clean and stock rooms
  • Perform phlebotomy if they are certified to do so
  • Enter information into a patient’s Electronic Health Record unless specifically requested by a nurse
  • Record or report chief complaint or HPI
  • Make recommendations to a patient of any kind
  • Make medical decisions regarding a patient
  • Enter and pend new medication orders or immunizations
  • Perform spirometry tests
  • Perform ear lavage
  • Administer vaccines
  • Perform visual acuity testing
  • Perform EKG tests
  • Provide patient education or discharge instructions

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Awareness, understanding and adherence to all safety and infection prevention standards
  • Application of aseptic technique principles
  • Adherence to the clinic best practices including:
    • Respiratory etiquette
    • Safe handling of potentially infectious materials,
    • Appropriate use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE),
    • Application of Standard Precautions,
    • Safe handling of all blood or body fluid contaminated areas/articles, appropriate disinfection and decontaminations of examination rooms, surfaces and equipment.

Description

RN – Neurovascular, Medical Surgical Unit at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. This posting represents a .9 FTE, night shift opening (7pm-7:30am, varied days, 3, 12 hour shifts per week) with rotating weekends.

We are an accredited comprehensive stroke center and epilepsy unit. This specialized unit cares for post-operative neurosurgery and EMU patients. Patients on this unit may have received a hyperacute intervention such as endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) or thrombolysis. Stroke patients generally stay in the hospital for approximately five to seven days. During their stay, the interprofessional stroke team works collaboratively to provide patient and family-centred and evidence-based stroke care.

Extra Incentives:

  • Night shift differential – $10.00 p/hr
  • Weekend shift differential - $.00 p/hr
  • 6,000 hiring bonus offered for eligible external hires that meet required qualifications and conditions for payment.

Job Summary

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.

Education

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

* Minimum of 6 months critical care experience in an acute care facility within the last 5 years OR successful completion of an approved training course/orientation and standard competencies within six months of hire.
* Preferred: 1 year RN experience in an Intensive Care Unit specializing in cardiac, neuro or trauma.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

* Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state in which nurse will be practicing.
* Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
* ACLS required within a standard grace period according to the PeaceHealth Resuscitation Training Completion requirements policy.
* NIHSS & TNCC to be obtained within 12 months of hire/transfer.
* CCRN preferred.

Status: Full Time (hourly, non-exempt) 32-40 hours per week.
Hours : 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday. Work outside of these hours may be required.
Location: This role involves local/regional travel throughout Central Oregon via personal vehicle during the workday, including visits to patients' homes and facilities

Summary/Objective:
The Medical Social Worker provides comprehensive counseling and related support services to assist in meeting the identified psychosocial needs of patients and families enrolled in hospice, home health, palliative care and other Partners In Care programs/services. This role ensures that patients and families receive palliative care that meets the standards of Partners In Care's mission statement, policies, and procedures. The Medical Social Worker offers psychosocial and emotional support and engages in interdisciplinary collaboration in both community-based and facility settings.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for home health, hospice and palliative care patients/families.
  • Develop goals and interventions for the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care based on assessment findings.
  • Provide professional Social Work services, including ongoing assessments, counseling, emotional support, home care planning, education, resource identification, advocacy, and referrals.
  • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Care Team and other departments to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of services.
  • Work with Bereavement services to complete risk assessments and provide follow-up support.
  • Maintain relationships with community agencies/resources and promote education and support activities.
  • Perform initial and ongoing holistic assessments, utilizing therapeutic techniques to support decision-making.
  • Facilitate care coordination and make appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in IDT meetings and advance care planning, including end-of-life conversations.
  • Educate patients and families on health literacy, cognitive abilities, and medical care challenges.
  • Engage the community in education about palliative care services.
  • Support patients and families with anticipatory grief and bereavement counseling.
  • Set measurable goals to help patients achieve their desired quality of life.
  • Achieve job performance and personal development goals, demonstrating organizational values and competencies.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited Council on Social Work Education program.
  • 1-3 years of experience in end-of-life care in a healthcare setting.
  • Valid Oregon Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW) preferred.
  • Specialized certification in palliative care social work or chaplaincy preferred.
  • Ability to pass background, drug, and TB tests.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Current automobile insurance, a valid Oregon driver's license, and reliable transportation for fieldwork.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, hospice Medicare benefits, HIPAA privacy rules, and electronic medical records systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Compassion, empathy, and dedication to patient care.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibility.
