**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Performs medical assisting duties which may include, but are not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, performing phlebotomy and assisting during routine procedures. Ensures that all patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use. Escorts patients to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab as needed.
+ Performs appropriate point of care testing, such as lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of testing equipment. Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.
+ Monitors, orders and/or maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked and within expiration dates.
+ Performs initial review of medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners. May retrieve schedule VI and over the counter medications only, under supervision of licensed providers; is not authorized to perform licensed personnel duties, which include but are not limited to drawing up medications, medication administration or flushing IVs.
+ Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider. As directed by a clinician, enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR. During the visit, accurately documents tasks, as they are completed, in OMR to ensure proper billing (Facility Worksheet).
+ Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents as needed for clinical activities, in accordance with Medical Center standards. Procures and correlates medical correspondence as directed by department.
+ Monitors patients and visitors entering, waiting, and leaving the practice. Facilitates timely flow and informs patients and providers of delays in a timely manner. Acts as liaison between patient and practice staff to ensure optimal flow and service delivery. Ensures waiting room materials are organized and stocked as directed by the department. May answer and screen telephone calls.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ High School diploma or GED required.
+ Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
+ At least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting, such as: experience working as a medical assistant (MA), a patient care technician (PCT) or a clinical nursing assistant (CNA); nursing or medical student with completion of one clinical rotation.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ MA, EMT, CNA or LNA certificate, or Associates Degree in Medical Assisting

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):**

· Prepares patient exam rooms to ensure they are ready for patients and doctors. Keeps the exam rooms stocked with supplies needed to perform patient assessments. Responsible for keeping exam rooms clean and compliant with regulatory standards.
· Performs diagnostic testing which may include but is not limited to, urine collection, phlebotomy, EKG, etc., as ordered.
· Records vital signs and assists Physician with patient exams. Enters all data into electronic health record.
· Complies with all Managed Care and Quality requirements (required vitals, e-prescribing, etc).
· Reports all pertinent observations to Physician, Office Manager, Director, or other health team member.
· Coordinates surgical bookings, ancillary testing, prior authorizations and consultations as necessary.
· Follows up with patients on test results, rx refills, and assists with patient education
· Functions as a liaison between the patient and their family and the health care team.
· Performs other related duties as required. Supports front desk duties as needed (mail, fax inbox, phones, check in, co-pay collection, etc.)
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
· High School graduate or equivalent
· HeartSaver or BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (preferred) or American Red Cross
**PREFERRED EDUCATION:**
· Medical Assistant Certification
**MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:**
· 1-3 years of experience

1. Serves as a communication resource. Asks appropriate questions and solves problems. 2. Greets patients and escorts to exam rooms. Ensures availability of x-rays, lab slips, medical records and other pertinent info. Implements quality control standards.

Adds new medications to patient record in EMR system. Assemble records according to BIDHC/APG policy and as standards are defined by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).
5. Ensures that equipment and supplies necessary to carry out patient care activities are available and usable and the environment is clean and organized. Maintains an unobstructed area for patient access. Cleans rooms after patient usage and ensures appropriate disposal of contaminated materials. Tracks, orders and maintains supplies and equipment, restocks supplies.
**Required Qualifications:**
1. High School diploma or GED required.
2. Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required.
3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
4. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
5. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
1. Certified Medical Asst.

**LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:**

**Practice Specific** : In some specific service lines, the incumbent may have to:
1. Assist in visits and procedures for patients seeking abortion services or services for pregnancy loss, such as collecting supplies, printing consents, organizing instruments and medications, and/or assisting during the insertion of cervical dilators for surgical abortion procedures.
2. Assist the provider with pelvic and breast exams for all patients.
3. Assist with cervical cytology screening and filling out appropriate forms.
4. Assist with in-office surgical procedures such as miscarriage management, biopsies, colposcopy, and LEEP procedures of the cervix.
5. Assists with transgender and non-binary patients seeking gender-affirming therapy and/or surgery.

The MA will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties include:

Minimum Requirements:

Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) Trainee Program for further development and reevaluation.

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office, clinic, or similar setting is required. This experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining manual vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g., EKGs, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines). A combination of relevant experience and formal medical-related education may be considered to meet this requirement.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • Must obtain AHA BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Requirements for Certified Medical Assistant:

  • Current MA Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, AAMP.
  • Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.
