Job Summary
Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. Functions as an integral member of the health care team under the direction of the provider. Performs clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, documenting using the electronic medical record, and supporting a safe environment for patients. Provides administrative and clerical support for the clinic/department including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. Graduate of an accredited 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assist (RMA) required. Certified by one of the listed governing associations required: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA.
Job Duties
+ Obtains and documents, using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record, the patient's reason for visit, weight, vital signs, visit screening information, medication review, and pertinent information for provider.
+ Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
+ Assists patient as needed to prepare for visit with provider, takes appropriate measures to assure patient's safety and privacy.
+ Provides direct patient care as directed by provider based on competency and needs of clinic, such as performs EKGs, wound dressings, and functions as support to the provider during minor surgical procedures and ancillary examinations.
+ Prepares and administers medications according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency. May not administer intravenous medications.
+ Completes patient tests and treatments per provider's order according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
+ Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork accurately and efficiently to expedite laboratory studies.
+ Performs phlebotomy and may assist in specific laboratory functions relative to the testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens as educated and overseen by the laboratory.
+ Performs receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and functioning of the clinic, including matching and filing ancillary department reports, consultation and other medical reports in patients' medical records.
+ Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
+ Uses the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated.
+ Facilitates timely appointments for patients. Completes referrals and pre-authorizations as needed.
+ Collects co-payments.
+ Under the direction of the provider and/or site lead, assists with orientation of new personnel.
+ Executes and documents ongoing patient communication, as directed by provider, prioritizes communications to the provider, responds to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient needs.
+ Reinforces patient education as directed by the provider to support patient's understanding of instructions.
+ May inventory medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals non-controlled substances only to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize organizational efficiency and space utilization.
+ May have access to non-controlled medication storage/supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic/unit.
+ Prepares and cleans instruments.
+ Follows protocols for sterilization and disinfection, including high level disinfection of instruments and equipment.
+ Cleans/sets up examination rooms between patients using established infection prevention protocols.
+ Follows hand hygiene and appropriate infection prevention precautions. Routinely inspects/observes condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identifies need for preventive and/or corrective maintenance.
+ Responsible for actively participating in patient safety and quality improvement program.
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Travel may be required. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification through the ASCP is highly preferred.A minimum of 2 years of experience in Bacteriology and Hematology in a clinical laboratory environment are both required.Experience with the BAC-T/ALERT 3D Blood Culture instrument and Sysmex Hematology Analyzer are highly preferred. A background in healthcare is required with experience handling and processing blood specimens, labeling, preparing, and transporting specimens for testing. Experience working in a federally regulated environment is required (CLIA/AABB/CAP).Must possess basic computer skills, strong attention to detail, critical thinking abilities, and the capability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's).Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) to engage with employees of all backgrounds.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities to meet the needs of the blood center.Additional information:This position reports directly to the Laboratory Services Supervisor at our Bethlehem location. The hours for this full-time position are 7am-3pm, with weekend and holiday rotations. Additionally, this position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and perform small and concise movements. The Lead Medical Technologist works with blood products on a daily basis, exposure to potential biohazardous substances is high. Summary
Prepares and administers radioactive medication to patients for therapeutic or imaging purpose. Performs nuclear cardiac imaging for the cardiac patient population operating the nuclear camera. Provides technical support to medical professionals and Physicians for the diagnosis, treatment, and care of the cardiac patient population. On-call as required by the department. Works in a hospital facility that offers full hospital services. Provides direct patient care to high acuity patients encompassing emergency, inpatient and outpatient classes supporting up to and including trauma and ICU.

Job Duties

  • Performs high quality nuclear cardiology procedure for cardiac outpatients including explanation of test and safety precautions, operates equipment, provides assistance during testing, observes patient, and reports/follows-up on any abnormal activity and documents.
  • Operates cameras and other sophisticated imaging equipment to monitor how the administered drugs affect tissues and organs.
  • Prepares and administers the proper dosage of radiopharmaceuticals and isotopes to patients by either injection or inhalation.
  • Employs safety methods such as the use of syringe shields, gloves, and personal radiation-monitoring devices to protect patients and medical staff from radiation exposure.
  • Oversees the ordering, storage, handling, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Assists in quality assurance relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment, policies, and procedures and ICAL activity.
  • Performs required documentation and record keeping.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Nuclear Medicine
  • 1 year Experience as a nuclear medicine technologist in a hospital setting
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use discretion with confidential data that may impact staff and operation.
  • Ability to monitor/assess performance of oneself, others, or the organization to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Demonstrates patient support activities such as patient flow, preparation, clean up, and turnaround of examination rooms.
  • Knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment and understanding of how to use it appropriately and safely to prevent radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days
  • CNMT - Certified Nuclear Med Tech NMTCB - State of Pennsylvania or
  • RT - Registered Technologist Radiology - State of Pennsylvania

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Nuclear Medicine

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
