Job Description
Senior Medical Assistants assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Additionally, they serve as the lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
Title and Rate of pay will be based on Education and Experience
This position will require occasional travel (5%) to North Satellite locations.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Supports clinical workflow by guiding staff, assigning tasks, and assisting with supervisory duties.
+ Helps implement departmental goals and procedures, mentors new and existing staff, and serves as the Epic Care super user.
+ Collaborates with management to improve clinical operations, infection control, and patient assessments.

+ Proficient in all practice-specific tasks, including managing medical records, scheduling, verifying insurance, and preparing charts.
+ Ensures exam rooms and equipment are cleaned and stocked per protocol.

+ Under physician supervision, administers injections, performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and assists with procedures.
+ Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all policies.
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT)
+ OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA)
+ OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
+ Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
+ Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.

Job Duties:
- Collaborates with Providers and the entire health care team to enhance clinical guideline adherence and promote best practice.
- Evaluates the need to secure Referrals by utilizing the current processes of notifying patients of the elapsed referral and potentially assist with scheduling.
- Notifies patients of the elapsed, ordered diagnostic and laboratory studies by utilizing the current process of notification. Directs, plans, and implements improvement plans for specific chronic disease management and quality focus.
- Performs regularon-site visits to review/evaluate outcomesfor these programs according to Standards of Care.
- Identifies problems and proposes strategies for quality improvement.
- Analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates documentation in the EMR, assuring that documentation meets chronic disease management and quality metrics/guidelines.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, for operational reasons of which the employee is qualified to perform.
- Assists leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of care coordination programs to support the overall goals and strategic business strategies.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and protects Protected Health Information (PHI), with all activities related to this position.

UPMC East's Greensburg office is currently hiring a part-time Medical Assistant to work a daylight shift - 7:45 am - 4:15 pm or 8 am - 4:30 pm. This role will be scheduled various days - Monday thru Friday and does require travel to the Murrysville office as needed.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
+ Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
+ Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
+ Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
+ Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
+ Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
+ Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
+ Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

+ Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
