Position Summary:
Provides professional clinical care to patients receiving treatments and examination in an outpatient clinical setting under the supervision of the attending provider and practice office manager.
Responsibilities- Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
- Assists provider with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments. To include, but not limited to, phlebotomy, injections (will include proficiency in calculations), suturing, and other typical office procedures.
- Administers patient medications per provider order and policy including appropriate dosage, route, site, and documentation.
- Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel as applicable.
- Provides basic patient care as ordered.
- Assures test results are received and relayed to patient in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy by using the AIDET fundamentals of communication.
- Documents all interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating provider's advice and instructions.
- Triages patient phone calls and urgency of appointments.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and well maintained equipment.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters regarding the practice, its patients, and employees.
- Ability to use a variety of office and medical equipment including, but not limited to, telephone, computer, fax, stethoscope, EKG machine, ear washing equipment, scales, thermometers, blood pressure cuff, and basic lab equipment.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work area.
- Maintains equipment in clean operating condition.
- Performs referrals and pre-certifications as needed and where applicable.
- May schedule patient appointments per provider order and relay accurately to patients.
- Takes calls from hospitals/nursing homes and relays appropriate information to practitioner in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with the patient, physician, and other care team members as part of a team based approach to overall patient care.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
Must be sufficient to meet the standard for achievement of the below indicated licensure as required by the issuing authority.
Licensure Requirement:
Must be licensed as an LPN in the state of Tennessee. American Heart Association BLS required.

Position Summary:
The Medical Technologist performs high complexity, routine and specialized clinical Lab tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients by physicians. The Medical Technologist is expected to use independent judgment to give the physician information to diagnose and treat illness. In addition, the MT is expected to consult with the physician about test results as needed.

Responsibilities

Perform high complexity tests as appropriate for testing department and shift.

Follow the Laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
-
Document all corrective actions taken when the test process deviates from the Laboratory’s established performance specifications. Does not report patient results until all corrective action has been taken and test is performing as expected.

Perform proficiency testing samples and maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in same manner as patient samples.

Adhere to Laboratory’s quality control policies; document all control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Perform all quality control as outlined in the procedural manuals. Notify the Technical Specialist, Laboratory Manager, Charge Tech or Pathologist of out-of-control situations if problem cannot be resolved.

Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; either correct the problem or notify the Technical Specialist or Laboratory Manager if the problem cannot be resolved.

Assist in orientation, instruction and evaluation of students and new employees to the department.

Prepare various reagents and supplies according to precise formulas as needed.

Utilize the LIS in patient accessioning and resulting; monitor incomplete and collection lists.

Operate, maintain and troubleshoot Laboratory equipment and instruments, as specified.

Check Communication boards at least weekly.

Plan work to insure maximum productivity with minimum amount of ‘carry over’ work, while keeping overtime to a minimum. Responsible for communicating to the next shift and other appropriate staff needed information about patient samples or instrument performance.

Act as resource person for phlebotomy, if trained appropriately, including outpatients.

Review abnormal patient reports daily; normal reports weekly.

Maintain and disinfect work area.

Assist with coverage of the pneumatic tube system, processing and distributing specimens.

Handle biohazard wastes according to policy.

Assist in evaluation and validation of testing systems.

Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient, co-worker and business information at all times.

Monday - Thursday 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. and Friday 7:00a.m. - 1:00p.m.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (List does not include all duties assigned)
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares patients for examinations and procedures according to physician preferences.
- Records vital signs of patients, including pulse, blood pressure, height, etc.
- Performs appropriate procedures, such as phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, holter monitors, etc.
- Assists the physician(s) with procedures, as well as administering medications and conducting patient educations.
- Handles phone nursing when appropriate, to include triaging, pre-certs, referrals, calling in prescriptions, etc.
- Performs clerical duties necessary for the physicians to see patients; contacts patients regarding test results or for other related reasons as directed.
- If needed, schedules patient appointments with efficient use of clinical time slots.
- Maintains stocked, neat and clean exam rooms and common work areas on a daily basis.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited program in practical nursing or medical assisting.
** Current TN license in Practical Nursing or Nationally Certified in Medical Assisting certification REQUIRED.
EXPERIENCE: Prefer one year experience in a medical office setting. X-Ray experience preferred.
