• Collection of selected data about health status of the patient. Determines consumers purpose for visit, concerns and educational/physical needs. Checks and records consumers vital signs. Records pertinent data on the consumers medical record. Recognizes urgent/emergent situations and refers them in a timely fashion to physician or nurse. Participates with other health team members in the development of the nursing care plan. Contributes pertinent information to the nursing plan of care and passes it on to appropriate professional provider. Follows through and implements the nursing plan of care safely and completely according to role and team specifications. Documents accurate information in proper format.
• Communicates in an attentive and individualized manner in every encounter. Participates in the coordination and facilitation of care for the patient. Cooperates and communicates effectively with other team members in order to accomplish the workload. Recognizes and reports obvious psychosocial, cultural and/or emotional needs. Verifies the patients understanding of the purpose for visit. Instructs and orients patients and family/significant others to the health care team members, the services available, and the means of access to those services. Participates in the orientation of new consumers to KFHPWs policies and procedures. Demonstrates an awareness of the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
• According to the educational plan determined by the professional provider, provides instruction to the patient and family/significant others. Provides instruction that matches learning needs and the nursing plan of care. Encourages patient compliance with therapeutic and medical regimens. Under the direction of the professional provider, provides the patient with preventive care information that matches his/her age, sex, and health status. Utilizes available health education resources. Reinforces the plan with patient to improve general health status.
• Accurately documents selected patient history observations and procedures. Adheres to KFHPW documentation standards. Provides each patient a safe, comfortable, and private environment. Provides a safe environment for each patient and adheres to KFHPW safety standards. Adheres to KFHPW infection control policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for practice, for continued growth and self-evaluation. Identifies own learning needs and participates in educational efforts to meet those needs. Participates in staff orientation and student education activities. Participates with managers in completing the process for self and colleague/team performance reviews. Consistently demonstrates an appearance consistent with current KFHPW dress code policy.

• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program prior to start date/transfer or equivalent Military experience with ability to obtain MA-I prior to start date.

• Interim Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire OR Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire

• Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 12 months of hire

• Basic Life Support required at hire

• If hired as MA-I, must obtain MA-C prior to the expiration of the MA-I credential.

The Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) is an integral part of the Physician/Advanced Practice Provider (APP) office team working under the direction and supervision of a licensed healthcare practitioner. Work situations require performance of safe clinical skills within the scope of practice of the MA-C. The MA-C has continuous contact with physicians, APPs, nurses, front office staff, patients and their families/caregivers.

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
• Organizing patient flow in collaboration with the front office staff
• Interviewing patients
• Obtaining vital signs
• Assisting patients in preparing for exams or treatments
• Performing specimen collection, including venipuncture
• Administration of medications in compliance with Washington State Department of Health regulations and documented competency
• Relaying instructions/information to patients and their families/caregivers
• Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include:
• Sending and receiving of patient medical records
• Facilitating patient referrals
• Preparing forms for patients

• Completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants
• Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C)
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred

However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. This Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the nursing director or designee.

Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. Prepare patients for examination and treatment.

Interview patients, measure vital signs, record health histories and chief complaints.

Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.

Provide other medical treatments ordered by providers such as audiograms, vision checks, administration of oral vaccines, and EKGs.

Stock immunization inventory, maintain temperature logs, order immunizations, create and provide monthly reports to the Department of Health.

Process medication refills, faxes, and charts.

Compile information regarding patient care, such as the number of patients served, appointment cancellations, and no shows.

Clean and stock all areas of medical clinic including cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging of medical instruments.

Maintain clinic equipment such as refrigerator temperatures, machine calibration, and autoclave flushing.

Write and submit information for monthly newsletter.

Perform medical records duties such as copying and processing Release of Information forms, retrieving and filing charts, processing PCCs, maintaining medical records.

Provide staff administrative support and back-up including answering phones, taking messages, conveying information from providers to patients, processing mail, greeting and checking-in patients, filing, and appointment scheduling.

Minimum qualifications:

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants and two years' experience as a Medical Assistant.

Medical Assistant license with the State of Washington.

Must have current CPR Certification and TB Testing

Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's policy.

Cardiac Study Center/Pulse Heart Institute, Tacoma, WA

Since its creation, Cardiac Study Center (CSC) has contracted with Pulse Heart Institute for outpatient cardiology and billing services. CSC is a proud partner of Pulse Heart Institute, and has provided outpatient cardiology services in the Puget Sound Region for over 50 years. CSC partnered with MultiCare Health System to create Pulse Heart Institute in 2016 to work toward improving the health of cardiac patients.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

Cardiac Study Center/Pulse Heart Institute provides a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental, and retirement benefits, and paid time off. As various pay transparency laws require, CSC/PHI shares a competitive compensation range for candidates hired into each position. The starting pay for this position is $2.96, and the pay scale is 22.96 - 41.61 USD.
