The Medical Assistant (MA) II works under the delegation of a licensed practitioner to perform duties as directed to assist in providing patient care to assigned patients. A MA II performs all aspects of the MA I role and is fully competent in the clinical needs/functions for assigned clinic/location of work. An MA II is expected to perform in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Required Qualifications:
- Coursework/Training Graduate of an accredited school that includes hands on training in a clinical setting for medical assistants Or
- Coursework/Training Graduate of a registered medical assistant apprenticeship program Or
- Coursework/Training Has completed two years of medical training in the United States Armed Forces Or
- Coursework/Training Minimum one year of work experience as a medical assistant that includes the following clinical skills: obtaining vital signs, administering injections, and medication administration Or
- Within 30 days of hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association
- 6 months Healthcare experience
- 6 months Medical Assistant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Upon hire: National Medical Assistant Certification

The Medical Assistant for JWCH is a full time position under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Clinic Designee. Within the regulatory scope of practice, the Medical Assistant will assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical supportive functions. - Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities
- Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement. according to established policies and procedures
- Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency,

- Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placement. Documents measurement of PPD skin test and reports information directly to the provider or to the Registered Nurse
- Applies/removes bandages and dressings,
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures,
- Provides basic health information and education to patients using established policies and procedures,
- Works with patients on self-management goal as defined in the case management contract and/or under the direction of a licensed health care provider.
- Performs routine clerical functions as assigned
- Takes and routes phone calls timely and efficiently
- Schedules routine and follow-up appointments
- Accurately files all patients' labs, X-ray, EKG results and other documents after the provider has seen and signed off the information.
- Keeps patient exam rooms and work areas clean and stocked.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, including quality improvement, case conferences and in-service meetings,
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team,
- Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
- Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
- Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
- Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

The Medical Assistant is a key contributor to PFCLA’s mission of providing compassionate, world-class fertility care. This role supports both clinical and administrative functions to ensure efficient workflows, safe procedures, and an exceptional patient experience. Accuracy, professionalism, and empathy are critical, as the MA serves as a direct point of contact for patients during sensitive stages of their fertility journey. This role may have rotating weekends and may occasionally be out of our Glendale clinic, but primarily out of the Westwood clinic.
Job Description
Patient Care
- Room patients and manage clinical flow to ensure the physician’s schedule runs efficiently and on time.
- Clearly and accurately explain procedures to patients and support the physician during exams and procedures- document all interactions in PFCLA’s EMR.
- Provide accurate and thorough injection instructions to patients, ensuring proper medication handling and administration.
- Support emergency preparedness and demonstrate understanding of PFCLA’s protocols for urgent clinical situations.
Clinic and Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare procedure paperwork in alignment with physician notes; review documentation thoroughly with patients to confirm understanding.
- Answer and triage clinical calls accurately; document all communications and follow-ups in the EMR system.
- Coordinate prescriptions with pharmacies when appropriate.
- Sterilize instruments per protocol (autoclave/Cidex) and document usage.
- Stock and maintain cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms.
- Enter ultrasound measurements into EMR based on physician statements and assist with handling and labeling of specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy services, if certified.
Accuracy & Documentation Standards
- Ensure all patient documentation is complete, legible, and accurate in the EMR system (nAble).
- Double-check all orders and paperwork submitted by providers for completeness and correctness.
- Proactively communicate any documentation discrepancies or delays to the appropriate clinical team members.
Team and Company Expectations
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and punctuality at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical coordinators, nurses, lab personnel, and front office staff. Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and PFCLA standards.
- Actively contribute to a positive patient experience through empathy, timeliness, and clear communication.
- Attend required team meetings, compliance training, and complete annual competency assessments.
- Support rotating office schedules and travel to Westwood or Glendale locations as needed.

Minimum Education/Experience
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred (for practices where blood draw is performed).
- At least 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or fertility setting strongly preferred.
- High attention to detail with ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in clinical documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including patient-facing communication.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret documents and instructions, including clinical protocols.
- Proficiency with EMR systems (nAble preferred) and basic Microsoft Office tools.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities a plus (e.g., Spanish, Armenian, Mandarin).
Physical Demands
- Frequent walking, standing, and movement required throughout the clinic.
- Use of standard office and clinical equipment including computer, printer, copier, and sterilization equipment.
- Regular interaction with patients and clinical team; must be able to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds; exposure to clinical/laboratory environments with biohazards.
- Travel between PFCLA locations may be required (Glendale and Westwood) as well as weekend support.
- Noise level is moderate; must maintain focus and professionalism in a fast-paced setting.

**PURPOSE AND SCOPE:**
Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, quality policy and goals of the Fresenius Vascular Care Group. The position will act as an assistant to the Physicians, RN's and Radiology Technicians in patient care and operating procedures.
