The Director of Biomedical Engineering is responsible for overseeing and leading the biomedical engineering operations across all facilities within Carle Health, ensuring the effective management, maintenance, and optimization of clinical technologies and medical equipment. This leadership role will drive the integration of biomedical engineering solutions that align with organizational goals while ensuring regulatory compliance, system reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The Director will collaborate closely with clinical teams, Information Technology, and operational staff to implement best practices, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and foster continuous improvement in biomedical engineering services.
Qualifications
**Certifications:**
+ Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) within 18 months or
+ Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) within 18 months
**Education:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering or
+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or
+ Bachelor's Degree in Related Field
**Work Experience:**
+ Biomedical service - 10 years and
+ Leadership - 5 years
Responsibilities
+ Strategic Leadership and Oversight
+ Manage the enterprise-wide biomedical engineering teams
+ Provide direction, mentorship, and support
+ Ensure consistent, high-quality biomedical engineering services across Carle Health.
+ Develop and implement a unified biomedical engineering strategy
+ Align with organization's mission, goals and objectives
+ Ensure a cohesive approach to medical equipment management and technology deployment.
+ Collaborate with leadership, clinical teams, Information Technology, and other departments
+ Set priorities for biomedical engineering and make recommendations
+ Improve operational efficiency, patient safety and clinical outcomes.
+ Participate as a member of or lead committees as required.
+ Equipment Management
+ Oversee the lifecycle management of all medical equipment, including acquisition, installation, maintenance, calibration, and replacement across the enterprise.
+ Ensure that all medical equipment supports clinical workflows, enhance patient care and complies with regulatory requirements, include FDA, HIPAA, DNV and other relevant industry standards.
+ Establish and manage asset management programs to monitor the performance, utilization, and condition of medical equipment across multiple sites, ensuring optimal operational performance and cost efficiency.
+ Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
+ Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations governing medical devices, including industry patient safety standards, data security standards and accreditation requirements.
+ Participate in the development of risk management and mitigation strategies for healthcare technology, including managing cybersecurity threats, device safety and operational continuity.
+ Stay current with regulatory changes and best practices in biomedical engineering to maintain compliance and promote innovative practices.
+ Operational Efficiency and Process Improvement
+ Drive operational improvements across the organization by implementing best practices and standardization processes for biomedical engineering management and maintenance.
+ Optimize the performance of biomedical engineering services, improving equipment uptime and streamlining workflows to enhance clinical and operational efficiencies.
+ Participate in the review of capital purchases of medical equipment
+ Ensure clinical needs can be met and optimization of available features/functions can be implemented successfully.
+ Staff Management and Development
+ Lead, manage and mentor biomedical engineering staff across the enterprise
+ Ensure effective recruitment, training and professional development.
+ Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence within the teams
+ Encourage staff to stay abreast of new technologies, regulatory changes and industry best practices.

+ Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders regarding biomedical engineering equipment status, performance, compliance issues and improvement initiatives.
+ Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with other departments, such as Information Technology, Cyber Security, Vendor Management, Projects and Construction, and Facilities to ensure cohesive planning and execution of biomedical engineering initiatives.
+ Budget and Financial Management
+ Develop and manage the enterprise biomedical engineering budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to support organizational goals and optimize the use of medical equipment.
+ Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through improved equipment management and service contracts.
+ Develop and oversee the capital planning process and rolling 5-year capital replacement plan for medical equipment purchases, ensuring decisions align with financial objective and operational needs.
+ Innovation and Technology Integration
+ Stay ahead of emerging technologies in biomedical engineering and recommend innovative solutions to improve patient care, enhance clinical workflows and reduce costs.
+ Participate in the implementation of new technologies, medical equipment and systems ensuring successful integrations into existing clinical practices.
+ Participate in the evaluation and implementation of cutting-edge solutions that enhance the organization's ability to meet patient needs and continue to improve the quality of care.
+ Collaborate with leadership, clinical teams, Information Technology, and other departments to set priorities for biomedical engineering, make recommendations to improve operational efficiency, patient safety and clinical outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $47.28per hour - $81.32per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.

- Diagnose defective medical equipment and implement repairs without direct supervision in both shop and critical care settings including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and various patient care areas.
- Perform, coordinate, monitor, and supervise a preventative maintenance program for all equipment assigned to ensure compliance.
- Determine practicality and cost-effectiveness of utilizing vendors or in-house staff.

- Minimum of 5 years medical imaging service experience in multiple modalities (i.e., Computerized Tomography, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, Digital Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, etc.).
- Work effectively as a team member within the area and with customers to provide quality services to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
- The Radiology Engineer will promote radiation safety and identify and resolve exposure quality issues in Radiology.
- Associates degree required with certification in discipline, BS degree preferred. May be substituted with Military Training in Biomedical or Diagnostic Imaging.
- Demonstrate excellent managerial, communication, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills; able to work independently but also as part of a team.

**The role you'll contribute:**
The role of the System Director of Biomedical Engineering is to lead and support system connectiveness and to facilitate biomedical engineering standardization, strategy development, and governance across AdventHealth. This individual is an integral member of the system ancillary leadership team overseeing integration and development of biomedical engineering governance and the modality managers; ensuring effective organization, so that the strategy and objectives set forth are implemented in a timely and efficient manner. The Director is expected to have a deep understanding of the clinical engineering, capital planning, and third-party-service areas, the competitive landscape, and the external forces impacting standardization among all regions within AdventHealth and biomedical engineering. This individual will report to the Executive Director System Support Services and will have leadership responsibility and oversight of the Biomedical System Modality Managers for each Biomedical Engineering governance team.

+ Evaluates and monitors the performance of clinical engineering services and initiatives.
+ Supports the development of cross-divisional and cross-disciplinary governance structures.
+ Facilitates negotiations with strategic partners and stakeholders to advance clinical engineering objectives.
+ Interfaces with physicians and senior leadership to ensure clinically informed decision-making.
+ Serves as a business partner in the strategic development and vision of clinical engineering services.
+ Manages teams and resources to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
+ Provides feasibility and timeline assessments for clinical engineering projects and initiatives.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Develops and implements strategies for clinical engineering standardization and governance.
+ Collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure system connectivity and integration of clinical engineering services.
+ Oversees the creation and execution of strategic plans for clinical engineering services.
+ Ensures effective communication and coordination among modality managers and stakeholders.
Qualifications
**The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed** **:**
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** **:**
+ Bachelors Degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or industrial engineering.
+ Minimum of five (5) years in progressive programmatic or leadership experience in the healthcare field.
+ Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a health care setting.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:**
+ Masters Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, industrial engineering or equivalent
