- If not previously trained in MRI, a willingness to cross-train and become certified in the modality.
- Reviews given history when order is placed and consults with radiologist when questions or contraindications arise.
- Documents pertinent patient history, reviews previous reports when available, and discusses the procedure with the patient to allay apprehension and elicit understanding.
- Performs CT procedures using proper technical factors and patient positioning to produce images of high diagnostic quality. These images include all necessary information for accurate diagnosis and should be maximally presented for aesthetic quality.
- Differentiates average from abnormal findings and asks for assistance from the radiologist if unsure.
- Correctly log all pertinent information into Centricity and Nuance as applicable.
- Send all studies with completed histories to the correct Merge study list, enabling the radiologist to interpret the exam promptly.
- Perform all tasks in alignment with infection control guidelines.
- Respond to emergencies as required and assist in adverse reactions to medications.
- Restock scanning rooms, notify appropriate individuals when reordering is necessary, empty laundry, and ensure the equipment is cleaned daily.
- Accommodates schedule needs as required/emergency coverage as necessary.
- Participate in orienting new staff members and others as appropriate.
- Actively participate in CQI development.
- Prepare and maintain proper recordkeeping (occurrence reports, malfunction reports).
- Perform quality assurance testing as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY
Credentialed x-ray technologist, able to perform all diagnostic procedures and has a solid understanding of all equipment. Maintain QI projects and sufficient operation of the department. The position requires some on-call duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients including proper shielding.
- Insures the department is in compliance with all state and JCAHO standards.
- Insures the department is properly stocked and maintained in a clean and organized manner.
- Responsible for safe handling of equipment and cassettes.
- Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations.
- Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.
- Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions for patients and updates protocols periodically.
- Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician/nurse contact for intervention.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Understands special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: intravenous pyelograms, cholangiography, arthrograms, myelograms, GI procedures and OR procedures in surgery.
- Operates portable or fixed x-ray equipment and makes radiographs for a variety of examinations.
- Manages x-ray cassettes and/or digital images by sending them to the PACS system.
- Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques.
- Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.
- Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel insuring proficiency of technologists performing exams.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family.
- Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with other departments.

- BLS certification, required.

- Close mental and visual attention required for sustained periods of time. Frequently works under stressful conditions due to demands of customers and the critical condition of some patients. Must be able to transport self throughout department. Standing, walking, sitting, carrying/lifting (up to 35 lbs.), turning, carrying, pushing, pulling and stooping.
Working Conditions
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases, disagreeable odors from patients, anesthetics, disinfectants, and/or chemicals. May be exposed to controlled radiation exposure. Will be subject to call on a regular or as scheduled basis. Will be scheduled various shifts and days of the week as necessary to efficiently and effectively provide services.
