**The role you'll contribute:**
The Medical Laboratory Technician I is tasked with the processing, testing, and reporting of results for all laboratory specimens across various clinical laboratory areas. This role demands the exercise of independent judgment under general supervision, involving the analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens which necessitates a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge in licensed areas. The position includes pre-and post-analytical work processes, maintenance of accurate laboratory records, adherence to laboratory policies and procedures, and upholding quality control practices. State licensure and/or national certification are required within a specified timeframe after hire. The technician actively participates in delivering outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all stakeholders. Work schedules may include on-call hours, and the role operates under the immediate supervision of a medical technologist, supervisor, or laboratory manager. Responsibilities also encompass performing clinical testing in various laboratory areas such as Blood Bank, Microbiology, Serology, Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis following standardized procedures, understanding method principles, performing quality control, preventive maintenance, and interpreting results accurately. This position requires effective communication, interpersonal skills, critical thinking for ensuring quality of patient test results, and a high level of technical knowledge applicable to department testing and clinical relevance. The technician is expected to organize work to meet established deadlines and maintain job competence, consistently functioning in a self-directed manner and exhibiting complex problem-solving skills. Applicable experience in Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent term or post-secondary education with a concentration in the aforementioned subject matters, Chemical Science or Biologic Science or related field preferred.

+ Associate in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) OR medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR Successful completion of at least a 50-week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.

**Job Summary**
The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for conducting routine and specialized diagnostic tests on blood, body fluids, and other specimens to support accurate and timely patient diagnosis and care. This role requires expertise in performing moderate and high-complexity tests while adhering to strict quality control standards, laboratory protocols, and regulatory guidelines. The Medical Lab Technician is also tasked with maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide critical diagnostic information.
**Essential Functions**
+ Performs moderate and high-complexity laboratory tests accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely reporting of results with proper documentation.
+ Adheres to quality control protocols, analyzing data, troubleshooting out-of-range results, and resolving issues promptly.
+ Operates and maintains laboratory instruments, performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting malfunctions, and communicates issues to supervisors as needed.

+ Collects, processes, and documents chain-of-custody urine drug screens as required.
