Ochsner is the leading clinical oncology program in the Gulf South Region, providing personalized and state-of-the-art care to more than 22,000 cancer patients in the past year. Over the last 5 years, Ochsner Health has invested more than $135M in facilities and technology across the Ochsner Cancer Institute reflecting our commitment to leading cancer care in the region and beyond. These projects have included a 115,000 ft2 expansion to the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, the new St Tammany Cancer Center in Covington, and the expansion of the Baton Rouge Cancer Center. In 2023 Ochsner Health partnered with MD Anderson Cancer Center bringing more treatment options and clinical trials local.Ochsner is currently seeking a qualified Medical Physicist to join their Radiation Oncology Team. The Radiation Oncology department has a patient load of approximately 1300 new patients per year at four facilities in southeast Louisiana. The department currently has 10 radiation oncologists, 3 medical physicists, and 4 dosimetrists. The department has five Varian linear accelerators, three GE CT simulators, Gamma Knife and a Elekta/Nucletron HDR unit. The department has a fully integrated Aria and Eclipse systems as well as Oncentra Brachytherapy, Variseed, and MiM Maestro systems. Duties include general clinical coverage, QA, and support for special procedures, including SRS/SBRT, HDR/LDR, and TBI/TSET.

Required - Master's degree in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, or related field
Preferred - Ph.D. in medical physics, radiological physics, or related field
Work Experience
Required - 2 years experience in clinical medical physics.
Certifications
Required - Board Eligible in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics
Preferred- Certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout required job processes.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills to perform treatment calculations, assist the staff in special procedures/dosimetry/implant therapy, and participate in research and development of new methods of treatment.
- Good interpersonal skills for interacting with varying level of individuals.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
Job Duties
- Participates in patient treatment planning.
- Reviews all performance improvement records.
- Assists with the preparation of special procedures, including radioactive implants, stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy, total body and total skin irradiation.
- Verifies that patient has received prescribed dose by performing electronic and paper chart QA checks of calculations and treatment plans on assigned patients under treatment.
- Participates in QA program for radiation-producing machines by performing annual, monthly, weekly, and daily dose measurements, calibrations, and safety procedures. Assists in equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
- Performs patient specific dose measurements required for determination of monitor units or verification of treatment (IMRT QA, in-vivo dosimetry, etc.).
- Consults with dosimetrists, therapists, and staff as required.
- Participates in activities for professional development, maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills and credentials/age specific competency.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Other related duties as required.

- Consults with dosimetrists, therapists, and staff as required.
- Participates in activities for professional development, maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills and credentials/age specific competency.

**Education**

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
Preferred - Certification in clinical specialty area
**Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)**
+ Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
+ Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

**Physical and Environmental Demands**

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
