**Summary:**
The radiation therapist is responsible for the safe administration of high doses of ionizing radiation under the direct supervision of the radiation oncologist. Job responsibilities include acquiring and analyzing data in preparation for patient treatment, use of various imaging technologies for localization of the treatment area, and participation in treatment planning as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
The radiation therapist will function as a primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team. Additionally, the radiation therapist will also assist in communication with other health care providers such as social workers and dieticians, and will remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills.
Adheres to the accepted standards, code of ethics, and policies and procedures adopted by the profession and regulated by law.

**Job Responsibilities:**
**1)** Practices radiation safety according to policy and procedure.
**2)** Ensures proper identification of each patient and treatment site according to established policy and procedures.
**3)** Confirms radiation therapy written directive (radiation prescription) daily. Administers radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. Contact the manager, senior therapist, or oncologist if unsure of orders and needs clarification.
**4)** Communicates clearly: Explains the nature of the procedure and/or treatment in layman's terms. Answers questions and reassures the patient to alleviate fears and/or apprehension.
**5)** Performs quality assurance activities: Morning start-up, safety checks on all patient care equipment, maintaining visual and audible communication at all times, comprehensive chart checks, chart audits, dose verification using computer software, staff competencies, training, equipment shutdown and all other quality assurance activities as identified and required.
**6)** Performs clinical functions: Simulation, Fabrication of immobilization device(s), Verification of patient set-up and immobilization, Imaging, Treatment planning, Dose calculations, Validation of treatment parameters, Treatment delivery, and Documentation.
**7)** Ensures accurate delivery of treatment fields using electronic imaging technologies. Reviews imaging both independently and as a team member prior to submission for daily approval. Monitors patient progress and suggests changes to the treatment plan as appropriate.
**8)** Monitors patients for adverse side effects and communicates to appropriate personnel.
**9)** Review instructions for discharge and follow up with the patient, as applicable.
**10)** Understand the function of equipment and analyze equipment faults seeking guidance from appropriate personnel and/or vendors as required to achieve a safe resolution.
11) Mandatory on-call rotation. Process and workflow is all-inclusive.
12) Maintains knowledge of departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Seeks assistance for clarification, as needed.
13) Maintains knowledge of operator manuals and manufacturer's recommendations for the safe operation of all radiotherapy equipment.
14) Participates in the implementation of new technologies and subsequent training of staff members as required.
15) Participates in regulatory inspections such as JCAHO, DPH, and accreditation and/or reaccreditation of the radiation therapy program.
16) Participates in instructing students and the evaluation of students throughout their clinical rotation.
17) Performs and completes other duties as assigned.
18) Maintains license and continuing education credits.
19) Precepts Radiation Therapist Students and Radiation Therapist Graduates.
**Required Work Experience:**
**1)** Graduate of an accredited Radiological Sciences Program in Radiation Therapy or equivalent from a two-year Certificate Program
**2)** Accredited programs must meet the JRCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology) standards
**Preferred Work Experience:**
**1)** One year of experience.

Radiation Oncology Centers of Nevada (ROCNV), part of OptumCare is the reestablishment of a premier practice in Clark County. The practice previously operated as Radiation Oncology Centers of Las Vegas, with its parent company Associated Radiation Oncologists established in 1995.
The professional staff includes four Radiation Oncologists, two senior medical physicists, two senior medical dosimetrists, eleven therapists, one nurse practitioner and one RN nurse.
This group of physicians has led the way for quality radiation treatments in Las Vegas by offering innovation in treatment delivery, staffing with well-qualified, caring professionals, excellent relationships with patients, referring physicians, and insurers. We are currently seeking a medical physicist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide therapy physics services within a dynamic radiation oncology team that supports a broad profile of advanced treatment modalities covering multiple offices in Las Vegas. This position will provide a full range of supporting the treatment planning and delivery process, machine QA, support of ACRO accreditation, participation in review and implementation of new technology, perform all clinical radiation therapy physics duties, as needed. Experience with IMRT/VMAT, SRS, SBRT and HDR is desired but not required.
The department is equipped with two TrueBeams one with HDMLC, one Clinac-iX, two GE CT scanners, Eclipse TPS, ARIA, Brachyvision, VisionRT, RadCalc, RadFormation, IBA myQA and VariSource HDR afterloader.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Involved directly in planning external beam, brachytherapy, SBRT, SGRT, SRS and other radiation therapy functions as appropriate in the Medical Physics scope of practice defined by AAPM
+ Maintains the Code of Ethics as defined by AAPM and abides by the OPTUM CancerCare Corporate Compliance policy
+ Performs calibrations and quality assurance measurements on all treatment and planning equipment according to established guidelines, records and analyzes results of measurements, takes corrective actions as needed and reports results to Chief Physicist
+ Gathers, analyzes and periodically reviews data needed for planning and delivering patient treatments, processes data for use on computer, calibrations, or manually, upon approval by the Chief Physicist
+ Participates in developing calibration and quality assurance guidelines and schedules
+ Assists in maintaining quality assurance, calibration, data acquisition equipment and devices in good condition and current calibration
+ Assists in the institutional radiation protection program and in maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies as requested by the Radiation Safety Officer, including performing routine surveys, calibrations, checks, tests and maintaining required records according to current license conditions
+ Maintains patient confidentiality
+ Maintains a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department

**Job Summary**
Responsible for the daily operation of treatment delivery. Participates in patient care, treatment, and other duties performed by the radiation therapists and other staff. As a part of quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC), collaborates with physics staff to maintain QA/QC with the equipment and the procedures performed within the department and to maintain accreditation and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies. Collaborates with other Sanford Radiation Therapy sites to develop and implement system rational standards and to maximize operational and staffing efficiencies. **Qualifications**
Bachelors of Science degree in Radiation Sciences is preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology is required.
Minimum of five years' experience as a Radiation Therapist.
Certification and membership with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and fulfills all biennial continuing education requirements. For professional growth, American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) is preferred.

**Job Description:**
Under the direct supervision of the Specialty Lead and/or the direction of a staff veterinary radiation oncologist, performs a variety of duties to assist in providing for care of radiation oncology patients and promoting a safe, positive and team-oriented environment. This position provides a high level of quality service to patients found within the scope of services. Therapists should be caring, sympathetic, responsible, and detail oriented. They must be able to direct or supervise others, correctly assess patients' conditions, and communicate with the staff radiation oncologists. Coordinate and provide radiation therapy for in- and outpatients; actively facilitate a team-oriented work ethic, both within the Radiation Oncology service.
The aspects of this job are multi-faceted and will be described based on assigned duties:
**Halcyon Operation and Quality Assurance:**
+ Run machine performance checks each morning and as needed throughout the day.
+ Perform the required daily and quality assurance testing.
+ Collaborate with Varian hardware and software support to maintain smooth service operation.
+ Understand the underlying principles behind high energy x-ray production and treatment administration.
+ Trouble-shooting skills to address treatment system errors.
+ Perform CT scanner warm-up and shutdown as appropriate for the machine.
+ Notify administration if there are issues that need to be addressed with the CT scanner.
**Veterinary Radiation Therapy and Care:**
+ Responsible for coordinating activities in the Radiation Oncology Treatment Schedule in conjunction with the radiation oncologist.
+ Provide professional care to patients undergoing radiation therapy, prepare and maintain the radiation oncology space for all radiation therapy procedures and assemble the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies.
+ Responsible for positioning and CT simulation of radiation therapy patients.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of standard procedures related to radiation therapy, such as stereotactic treatment delivery, patient setup tolerances and rationale, etc.
+ Assist the radiation oncologist during advanced/critical therapy.
+ Able to process and clean all special equipment including bolus, bite plates, treatment couch, face masks, vaclok bags and bridges.
+ Demonstrates general knowledge of physics and radiation biology related to the rationale behind radiation therapy.
