LPN - Medical Professional

This Is What You’ll Do:

  • Perform medical evaluation of potential donors for automated plasmapheresis procedures

  • Determine donor suitability of new applicants in consultation with a donor center physician

  • Provide limited emergency care, including the administration of medications or treatments

  • Conduct evaluations to ensure compliance with criteria for normal plasma donors

  • Review medical histories and perform suitability examinations

  • Maintain communication logs regarding donor suitability

  • Review normal and abnormal test results to determine continued donor suitability

  • Counsel donors with abnormal test results and defer them accordingly

  • Complete cross-training as required

  • Graduation from a recognized healthcare educational program

  • Basic computer proficiency; Microsoft Word and Excel preferred

  • Blood bank or plasma center experience highly preferred

  • One or more years of hospital, field care, or plasma center experience preferred

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a recognized healthcare-related educational program, such as Physician, Nurse (Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse). Certified/licensed as an emergency medical technician (EMT Basic, EMT 2-intermediate, or 3- advanced/paramedic, if allowable).

  • Must work within the scope of the professional license/certification, as defined by the state in which the work is performed.

  • Any specific state licensing requirements must be met per location.

  • Alabama: Must always have a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse on staff during plasmapheresis to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the medical screening and/or donor floor areas, per state regulation.

  • California: Must be Registered Nurse and be currently licensed in the state. Must be able to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the medical screening and/or donor floor areas, per state regulation.

  • New Jersey: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Must always have a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse on staff during plasmapheresis to provide emergency care, per blood bank state regulation.

  • Ohio: Must be an EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse. Must have at least one (1) RN, LPN, LVN, EMT-P, or EMT-I always present in the Donor Center during plasmapheresis to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the donor floor area, per state regulation.

  • Washington: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Must always have a Registered Nurse on staff during plasmapheresis to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the medical screening and/or donor floor areas, per state regulation.

  • One (1)-year experience in the hospital, field care, or experience in a plasma center preferred.

  • Everyone performing moderate complexity testing must possess a current license issued by the state where the donor center is located, based on any required state regulations.

  • Must successfully complete training program and competency assessments using OPIapproved training modules or training curriculum.

  • Must have excellent patient/donor assessment skills.

  • Must be able to manage emergency situations in accordance with standard medical care practices.

  • Maintain current and valid license and pass medical credential evaluation.

  • Must maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

  • Must be highly organized and have attention to detail.

  • Possess effective physical and clinical assessment skills customer service, and people management skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow SOPs and protocols.

  • Must possess basic computer knowledge and skills. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

  • Demonstrate consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, full effort throughout shift, flexibility with assigned schedule).

  • Ability to work shifts consisting of day and evening hours, weekends, holidays and extended shifts on a frequent basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Always utilize all required and appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

  • Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five pounds.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.

  • Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for screening tests.

  • Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods of time, up to four (4) hours at a time.

  • Enter an environment with a temperature of -40C or colder according to Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice.

  • Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.

  • Physical ability to perform CPR and sufficient mobility to immediately assist in treatment of any adverse donor reactions.

**Medical Director- Medical Policy**

The **Medical Director- Medical Policy** is responsible for the administration of medical services for company health plans and helps ensure clinical integrity of broad and significant clinical programs, including the overall medical policies of the enterprise.

**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Requires MD or DO and Board certification approved by one of the following certifying boards is required, where applicable to duties being performed, American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
+ Must possess an active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or a health profession.
+ Unless expressly allowed by state or federal law, or regulation, must be located in a state or territory of the United States when conducting utilization review or an appeals consideration and cannot be located on a US military base, vessel or any embassy located in or outside of the US.
+ Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
+ For Health Solutions and Carelon organizations (including behavioral health) only, minimum of 5 years of experience providing health care is required. Additional experience may be required by State contracts or regulations if the Medical Director is filing a role required by a State agency.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Extensive managed care or Medicare knowledge.
+ MPH or MS in Epidemiology preferred, or equivalent experience and knowledge in evidence-based medicine and clinical epidemiology.
+ Proficiency in writing preferred.

+ Serve as the Physician match reviewer in Medical Oncology and imaging cases, that do not initially meet the applicable medical necessity guidelines, as well as other imaging requests when providers, clients, or state laws require specialty reviews to be completed by the subject matter expert.
+ Discusses determinations (peer to peer phone calls) with requesting physicians or ordering providers, when available, within the regulatory timeframe of the request and provides clinical rationale for standard and expedited appeals.
+ Utilizes medical/clinical review guidelines and parameters to assure consistency in the MD review process to reflect appropriate utilization and compliance with SBU`s policies/procedures, as well as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) guidelines.
+ Aids and acts as a resource to Initial Clinical Reviewers.
+ Ensures documentation of all communications with medical office staff and/or MD provider is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
+ May assist the Senior Medical Director in research activities/questions related to the Utilization Management process, interpretation, guidelines and/or system support.
+ Participates in on-going training per inter-rater reliability process.
Qualifications-
+ MD/DO/MBBS
+ Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the practice of Medicine, post residency and Active Clinical practice within the last 2 years is preferred
+ Current, unrestricted clinical license in medicine or required specialty-
+ Obtaining and maintaining medical licenses in the state you reside, as well as any license required per business needs

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • The physician serves as medical director for skilled nursing facilities (SNF) and participates in administrative and quality initiatives for the facilities he or she is responsible for;
  • Medical directorship functions include attending and participating in monthly quality assurance and process improvement meetings; participating in quality improvement initiatives; providing guidance to facility staff; reviewing and revising (if necessary) facility’s clinical guidelines; insuring compliance with state and federal regulations, training facility staff; and supervising facility clinical staff.
  • In addition to the medical director role, the physician also serves as the attending physician for the residents residing at each facility;
  • The physician collaborates with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to manage day to day resident care at each facility. Typically, each facility will have a full-time PA or NP assigned to the facility depending on the acuity and volume of the patient population;
  • Physician will provide high quality, patient-centered, comprehensive primary care services by rounding on patients residing in SNFs;
  • Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients with acute illness, such as bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease, or diabetes
  • Provider documentation is completed in Theoria’s proprietary electronic health record (EHR) system, ChartEasy™
  • PointClickCare, MatrixCare, and American HealthTech are the most commonly used facility EHR systems
  • Participating in Theoria’s Chronic Care Management, Transitional Care, RPM and other medical quality initiatives and programs
  • Physician must be able to supervise collaborating nurse practitioners and physicians assistants
  • Physician must be able to utilize electronic/online medical tools such as EHR systems and state/county medical systems utilized for Death Certificates and administrative functions.

Shift Structure

  • Shifts are flexible depending on physicians’ schedule;
  • Typically, medical directors work a minimum of 2-3 days/week at each facility they oversee;
  • Rounding times are flexible with no set start and end time. Preferably, physicians start in the morning between 7-10 a.m. and finish their day when their caseload has been seen;
  • No nights and on-call
  • Call is covered by Theoria's virtual care team
  • This is an in-person position

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package, including Medical Director stipend
  • Compensation ranges approximately from $0,000- 400,000/year depending upon employment status and availability (PRN, Part-Time, Full-Time)
