This job performs therapeutic procedures such as wound care, crutch and gait training and instructs patients on exercise. Assists physician with evaluation, documentation, treatment, education, and care coordination for patients in clinic setting. Assists with surgery coordination, positioning, draping, and intraoperative patient care for surgeons. Perform research and quality improvement projects. Schedules appointments for diagnostic examinations and physical therapy based on physician's orders.

  • Assists the physician(s) with research and quality improvement projects.

  • Gathers patient's medical background and history of present illness, performs problem focused clinical examination, documents findings and treatment plans, and places orders in electronic medical record system under written order guidelines.

  • Performs wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, or bracing, and instructs patients on exercise programs.

  • Assists the physician in the clinic and operative setting (works independently and when required under the direct supervision of a physician)

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The Department of Medicine (DoM) at Stanford University School of Medicine (SoM) seeks innovative physician scientists to join the faculty as Assistant, Associate, or full Professor in the University Medical Line (UML) through this rolling Faculty Cluster Hire Search. Applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent medical degree, and eligibility/certification in any of the American Board of Internal Medicine's subspecialties. We are specifically interested in collaborative physician-scientists with scholarly research programs focused on discovery science, population science, and/or translational science that can be applied within the clinical domains of an adult medicine subspecialty.
This rolling Faculty Cluster Hire Search aims to recruit an assorted group of experts dedicated to cultivating novel clinical therapies and improving patient outcomes, both within our organization and beyond. These distinguished individuals will become integral members of a dynamic scientific community, collaborating within the DoM, the SoM and Stanford University at large. Candidates will be appointed to their respective clinical divisions ( and expected to contribute to the department's research, educational, and clinical enterprise.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the **University Medical Line** shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Faculty rank will be determined by qualifications and experience of the successful candidates.
Successful candidates should have clinical expertise in their respective adult medicine subspecialty, as appropriate for rank; exhibiting the ability to balance a thriving clinical practice with a robust scientific program. Successful candidates will possess a substantial scholarly record of achievement in relevant rigorous research, as appropriate for rank.
Clinical research domains span across medical specialties, including but not limited to cardiovascular medicine, critical care and pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, rheumatology and immunology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology/hepatology, nephrology, hematology, oncology, and blood & marrow transplantation and cellular therapy. Examples of focus areas in population health research include pharmacoepidemiology, genetic epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, and health policy, and the legal, regulatory, ethical, and economic considerations that underlie the responsible implementation of clinical decision support tools. Research in all of these areas will benefit from broad interactions and collaborations throughout the SoM, across Stanford University, and within the large and growing health systems of Stanford Medicine.
