Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current state medical license
- Current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency license
- Board certified or Board eligible
- Basic Cardiac Life Certification or Advanced Cardiac Life Certification
- Staff privileges at all the hospitals for which coverage is being provided
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Exhibits teamwork skills that facilitate interchange between multidisciplinary health care workers in order to provide quality patient care/outcomes

Principal Accountabilities
- Directs patient care throughout the health care system via Consult Orders.
- Provides consultation services in collaboration with attending or primary care provider.
- Communicates with the attending physician, nurse, family, and other treatment team members when appropriate, in order to obtain the appropriate patient care plan.
- Effectively communicates with treatment team in a timely and professional manner to provide quality psychiatric care to patients throughout the healthcare system.
- Complies with best practices and other care directives. Follows Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Works with Memorial Hermann Physicians, Risk Managers, and Case Managers towards resolution of clinical, administrative or technical problems.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to MH compliance privacy policies.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

UTHealth Houston Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with Memorial Hermann, is seeking to hire a Medical Assistant to support the mental health team at the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center Memorial City location.
This position will provide both administrative and clinical support, including front desk responsibilities, assisting with medication refills, processing orders, handling prior authorizations, and responding to patients' clinical inquiries.
Depending on operational needs, there may be opportunities to float between the Memorial City site and the UT Physicians Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic at the Behavioral and Biomedical Sciences Building (BBSB), or to work remotely.
Functions as a member of the clinical team performing a supportive role in the delivery of patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.
Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
Effectively participates in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available.
Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic. Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments.
As required and competency validated, performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures.
Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients.
Prepares for and assists with routine and specialty procedures.
Schedules patients for follow up appointments or referrals and performs routine clerical duties for team and staff to include photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
Performs telephone messaging and in person screening with appropriate follow up.
Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Use and care of standard clinic equipment
Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
High school diploma or equivalent Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program preferred
Six months experience or completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training Program.
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094.
