Wellstone Regional Hospital is a 100-bed acute care facility located in Jeffersonville, Indiana, providing quality health care to the residents of Southern Indiana and the Louisville area since 2003. Wellstone specializes in the treatment of adolescents, children, and the adult population. In addition to our in-patient services, we offer out-patient programs as well.
Wellstone is seeking a dynamic and talented full-time Mental Health Technician, 5 days per week, 1st shift (6:45a-3:15p), 2nd shift (2:45p-11:15p), 3rd shift (10:45p-7:15a) working every other weekend. The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from preschool through geriatrics depending on which unit worked. The Mental Health Technician works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This is a non-exempt hourly 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift position, eligible for shift differentials on 2nd and 3rd shifts. Every other weekend is required.
QualificationsEducation: Must have a high school diploma, college preferred. CNA preferred. Experience: Behavioral health experience preferred but not required. Additional requirements: CPI/CPR training must be completed prior to working any unit independently. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours. Must complete and pass screening process.

The Mental Health Technician assists in the provision of nursing care assigned patients through the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation). The Mental Health Technician reports to the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse or his/her designee for the assigned shift.
Responsibilities:

Applies hospital patient care standards to patient care activities.

Assists in initial admission assessment of patients and collaborates with professional staff in disposition of patients. Intervenes appropriately with critical patients, such as during escalation, suicidal behavior, and elopement.

Under the supervision of the CSP Supervisor, the Mental Health Technician is responsible for a limited caseload, carrying out psychosocial rehabilitation, assisting in treatment/crisis intervention, providing employment related skills training, case management and support to meet the needs of clients with chronic mental illness.
The majority of CSP services are provided in the client's home or community with travel required throughout Green County. Mental Health Technician's hours of coverage include Two late shifts per week (11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.) with the remaining work day hours being 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.; Fourteen late shift Fridays (11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M) per year; Five holiday shifts (8:00 A.M. to 1:15 P.M.) per year; Fourteen weekends (Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.) per year and assigned rotational monthly on-call (which includes, nights, weekends and holiday coverage).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENSTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
Psychosocial rehabilitation and clinical case management.
- Provide supportive and educative services to an assigned number of clients or client groups in the areas of psychiatric symptomatology, interpersonal/social opportunities, general medical/dental health, vocational rehabilitation, case management and developing and coordinating resources and services to meet specific client needs (i.e. housing, financial, legal, medical, dental, etc.) and as needed delivers and observes client's medications.
- Teach clients how to carrying out various activities of daily living such as bathing and hygiene, shopping, laundry, meal and nutrition planning, and social/leisure activities to structure their time.
- Document client progress in the client's permanent clinical record according to unit policy and procedures.
- Provide representative payee services (manage funds/pay bills, keep accurate accounting of checkbooks, and teach budgeting skills) for assigned clients, complete necessary paperwork and consults with outside agencies in order to maintain client benefits.
- Perform suicide assessment of CSP clients as well as provide crisis intervention services.
- Attend and participate in daily CSP interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise overall treatment goals, plans, crisis plans and functional screens for an assigned number of clients.
- Consult with community agencies and with families to maintain involvement and coordination with the treatment process.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or a related field.
- Knowledge and understanding of Assertive Community Treatment and the implementation of treatment practices specific to a CSP serving persons with mental illness.
- Knowledge of the clinical symptoms of major mental illness and their comprehensive effects to the client.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques, principles and practices with clients and their families.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- (Preferred) Have 1,000 hours of supervised post-degree clinical experience with chronically mentally ill persons or if the bachelor's degree is in a field other than behavioral sciences have 2,000 hours of supervised post degree clinical experience with persons with chronic mental illness.
- Valid Driver's License.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to precisely communicate client's symptomatology during multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Ability to utilize active listening skills and empathy when communicating with clients in order to assist them in their treatment recovery process.
- Ability to be culturally responsive to clientele from diverse backgrounds; evidenced by treating individuals with dignity and respect.
- Consistently communicate effectively and professionally with Green County citizens, clientele, colleagues and personnel in outside agencies.
- Ability to maintain written and electronic documentation of clinical and medical records and develop accurate, precise and individualized treatment/crisis plans.
- Possess knowledge of and utilizes Microsoft Office.

A clean driving record is also required. Experience working with mental health behaviors preferred. Good organizational skills, working knowledge of computers and willingness to apply skills a plus.
